Blue light and the effects on your eyes

  • We're becoming more dependent on our technology in a 24/7 digital world. But what impact is all that screen time having on our eyes?
Dr. K discusses how there can be some immediate discomfort with digital eye strain, which can cause the eyes to feel tired or fatigued.
Over time, we can potentially be negatively affecting our eyes and sleeping patters from blue light exposure. Since this is a newer discovery, a lot of research is underway today to help identify what, if any, long-term effects blue light exposure can cause.
Dr. K says that children are at most risk because they don't yet have the protective pigment in their eyes and are starting on digital devices earlier than ever before. Children also hold tablets and other digital devices much closer to their eyes than adults because their arms are shorter. That may seem harmless, but it actually increases the intensity of the exposure significantly.
Dr. K discusses the blue light protection offerings from Unity lenses. More information is available at www.unitylenses.com.

Can you please explain how strobe lights affect the eyes? My phone has started flashing any time in low light environments. It's bright green, and when it happens it's almost pitch black in the room. Kinda makes my eyes sore and I can't see to get around for a while after, like everything has a gray film over it. When I close my eyes I see the green phone shape and my eyes burn. If I go to an eye doctor, how is damage detected and how do you know the extent?

And then there is the Electro Magnetic Frequencies the kids are being exposed to on a constant basis.

That EMF? It's called radio frequency. They are used in radios, phones, and everywhere. They are not harmful because their wavelengths are way longer than visible light. Only gamma rays or x-rays, which have a REALLY SHORT wavelength can harm you. Nothing else.
