    for anyone wondering, you can do this same process on the iPhone too. make an album, click the option dots or long press on the album and then "play memory video."

    Another good tip. I noticed you will not get the Play Memory Video option from smart albums. I assume all these Memories take up little space and the actual photo files are just referenced and not copied.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. Albums, Smart Albums, Memories, all just reference the existing photos.

    Very helpful! I didn’t realize that you could share albums or Memories as a file. I found that Apple gets carried away creating Memories on its own based on some algorithm (number of pics or videos taken on a certain day, or location, but including generic Memories like “Springtime”. I’m fine with that, except it creates a lot of them, including many that are more or less the same. I must have deleted 60 of them.

    May have missed this. When the folder is created click the heart icon at top to make it a favourite. This is what triggers creation of memory.

    I use apple and google photos. The memory collections i saw first in google. I only came to apple after getting an ipad for digital art. I made a shared folder for a few files or photos. That way i dont need to go searching for them on either system.

    Gary, I have a mix of videos along with the photos but need to edit their length (they were shortened). Is it better to export to iMovie and do this there?

      Yes. Try it and see. See the link in my other reply to you. Lots more you can do too.

    Love this. I've never used memories before. THANK YOU! :-). Quick question though. Is there a way to view your default photo library without the photos you have already placed in an Album? This is for once I've put the photos in an album, I don't want to have to scroll thru them and hundreds of photos on the default All Items. If not, Automator??? (watching your video here reminded me of this issue. :-) )

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Create a Smart Album. Set it to "Album" "Is Not" and "Any." But keep in mind it is perfectly OK to have photos that are no in albums. Don't complicate things by forcing each photo to be in exactly one album. Some may be in more than 1, and some may be in none at all.

    This can be useful. I just wish it made it easy to tell it I don't want any sound. I could make a file with silence but I would prefer no sound in the sound selection. I might be missing something but I can't find an option to do this.

    Thanks for another excellent video Gary ! I did notice that on my MacBook, it does not save the memory in the memory folder. It is possible to export it, but not to the memory folder - only to file document folders. Perhaps my OS is different than yours ? (Ventura 13.4.1)

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same macOS. Not sure what you mean by "but not to the memory folder - only to file document folders." When you export, you'd be exporting to a file, so it would be in your Documents folder (or wherever you saved it). There is no "Memory" folder in the Finder unless you created one yourself. If so, you could save it there. Maybe watch the video again and see what I am doing here.

      thanks for the feedback@@macmost I think it's bug on my machine (m2max) but I found a work around that gets the same results. Following your process exactly, I can play the memory from the album but it doesn't show up in in the photo app in the memory section. However, if I click the "heart" and favourite the memory as it's being played, then is shows up in "memory favourites" in the photo app. If I un-click the heart it shows up as a regular saved memory (not in favourites).

    By the way when I do transfer to iMovie it comes in as one clip, the entire slide show is in that clip and I can't figure a way to expand it to edit.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, that's how it works. If you want to build it in iMovie instead, bring the photos into iMovie. See th-cam.com/video/vV6QicmYTZE/w-d-xo.html

    Good morning, Gary. I have a question for you. My 2017 -21 inch I Mac crashed on me the other day and I think it must be the video display as nothing comes up on the screen. You can hear the start up tone but that is all. I have tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and then hold command and R to bring up recovery mode and nothing at all shows up on screen or happens period. My question is how to I reject my back up drive or is it safe to just unplug it. I would like to get my Time Machine back up onto my new 13.6 M2 MacBook Air. Is that possible? Thanks in advance for your time.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried pressing and holding the brightness up key (f2)? Try it with the FN key held down too. See if you can just increase the brightness. Can you see the screen if you shine a very bright light on it? Maybe enough to choose Apple menu, Shut Down? That brings up the question, if you can "hear the startup tone" then you must be shutting it down to start it up. So just shut it down and disconnect the drive if that is your only concern.

    • @khill50able
      @khill50able ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Thanks Gary, I did try the brightness key and the function key and almost every other one and still no luck. I did removed the hard drive and my ram so now I am just recycling the rest. Even my computer tech guy thinks it was the graphics card. He is going to help me use the migration part on the new Mac Book Air from my back up drive. Keeping fingers crossed. Thanks again.

    One downside to creating memories in Photos is that you have no control over when the next photo will appear. There is no option to set a waiting time for each photo?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As a slideshow it is pretty basic. But there are many other ways to create slideshows in Photos, and also in Keynote and iMovie if you want complete control.
