I'm extremely concerned over the fact that they did not include safety instructions or inform you that resin is toxic while curing, you should be wearing gloves, a respirator and in a room with good ventilation. There are non toxic resins but that would be disclosed on the resin bottle itself and according to what I see on the website the one in the starter box is regular toxic resin. I'm not trying to fear monger, it's just worrying because a lot of people jump into resin crafting without doing any research and end up with health complications later in life.
I just ordered the Hogwarts Letter box (and a few additional items). Even before adding the extras, I noticed they were not applying a 20% discount. In fact, during checkout they said my order didn't qualify. Bought them anyway, as I ordered enough for free shipping, but wanted to let you know.
Hi Peter, good job for your first try with resin. Here are some important tips for everyone wanting to try it: Use a respirator and gloves! Always! And work in a well ventilated area. Resin is a harsch chemical and it is not good for you to breath it in or to let it touch your skin. Also, when you are mixing it, try not to get bubbles into it. They are hard to get out if you dont have the special tools and they make the final product lower quality. And if you want to have different surfaces of one mold different colours, leave one colour to cure before you pour the next one. It is liquid so otrhewise it will mix and the difference is not as visible.
Isnt that only when using Epoxy Resin? UV resin is often non-toxic. Especially the Sophie and Toffee brand is a non-toxic special formula from what Ive heard. I haven't tried this brand bc money is an issue. Also paying like $17+ shipping for products worth a total of about $10 doesnt feel right. I hope they get a EU dealer so the shipping and fees will get cheaper.
Glad you enjoyed it! I also just realized that those extra luggage cart pieces are for if you make a second bookend. You can have the tip of the cart coming through the other end!
I love Hedwig but that second resin of her made me laugh. Also, I’m so happy to see more diverse in the content that you seem to also enjoy creating, which is what matters!

I love crafting!!! These turned out really nice. Not gonna lie, I was a lil skeptical at first bcuz for some reason i thought it would look more clay like. But the details are amazing! And I loved the ghost Hedwig, very creative!
I got into resin about a year ago I loved it I made a ton of different stuff and was getting orders from people it was awesome. Then I it of the blue had a terrible allergic reaction to the resin fumes and there ended my resin adventures 😢 😭 but was definitely fun while it lasted and just a quick little FYI please take all the necessary precautions for working w resin so you don't end up like me 😔 .
Is it a skin reaction? It's terrible to stop all that creativity. Maybe you could buy an extra good mask and gloves. Allergies are nothing to take lightly though, but I hope you can resume resin crafting someday

I didn't wear gloves most of the time and I have allergies to a lot of stuff.I did have ventilation but I didn't listen to the safety precautions so from what I read I did it to myself by coming into contact directly all the time. I guess the more you mess w it the worse the allergies can get so I plan on trying again maybe in the spring and do it outdoors.
This is such a cute idea. I think you can even go in with some acrylic paint after the resin has completely dried if you wanted to add more details like on hedwig's eyes etc if you wanted to of course. It is adorable and I think I might pick this up for myself

Wow! This is ridiculous in the best way! I always thought resin was cool but never saw anything I really wanted to try until now. I absolutely love anything crafty as I am a very creative person. Super cool Peter! You never cease to entertain.
You did such a great job with these tiny items. As I was watching you, I kept thinking what mess I'd make with these kits😁 But your items look quite neat and cute. A great idea for a DIY kit, very creative. And Hedwig's ghost... oh, it's sad and hilarious at the same time, the transparent Hedwig looks adorable.
Next time i would recommend painting the gold mica powder directly onto the mold using a paintbrush (or something soft) to get the gold to really pop -- it also makes sure you get the fine details :) you'll also want to make sure that you wear gloves next time as well! resin is messy and sticky and you definitely want to wear gloves because if you get that UV resin on your skin and then miss that spot when you clean up -- oof, it burns when you go out into the sun lol
omg when i saw peter with sophie n toffee , i was so surprise! XD nice 1st try, a lil advice , when ur making big or deep pieces, its better to use epoxy than uv resin. i usually use uv for smaller, detailed pieces.
Just a Lil tip next time for the hogwarts crests and smaller details brush the Micah powder on the mold first just brush it on or if you do mix in resin first cure it then do your next layer.
Oh a resin craft project that's neat, wow so many boxes! These look really great - these would be a fun group activity, ok I love headwig's ghost lol! The book end, letter, and those charms look so good!
The little rubber pieces are to put over your fingers so you don’t get resin on them. 🙂 The little images you put in the mold upside down before putting the resin in.
I don’t like being negative, but lack of directions is a HUGE miss and can be very costly to figure it out. I was so excited, until no directions included. I love your enthusiasm.
I would love to try resin craft but have been scared to, this makes it look easy though it's bad if they didn't include instructions. I love the little charms and as I've gotten a charm bracelet in last years Harry Potter Advent, these charms would be great additions to it.
Hi Peter, I work with normal resin and here in germany every resin company tells you to wear a face mask (FFP2), gloves and safety goggles. I don't know if the uv chemicals are as dangerous as the normal resin but definitely wear gloves the next time. 😀
Ok first... Gloves please! 2nd you can use parchemin paper as a big surface areato work on and MOST IMPORTANT... Hide your "uncured" UV resin from the lamp AND sunlight (windows too) because its will cure it in your cup and on instruments. Also the more box you receive the more glitter and pigments you'll collect and like you figured., a bit goes a long way. Enjoy yourself 😻

And gloves. A lot of TH-camrs working in resin always mention both gloves and masks. Apparently you can develop an allergy to resin.

ALWAYS use nitrile gloves when working with resin. Also make sure to have proper ventilation.

I love resin art, and can honestly say the best quality molds my friends and I have are from Sophie and Toffee.

To remove the bubbles at the top, run a lighter over the back before you cure it.
