    This is exactly the right information I need to help me pass this test. It's so important to look for those key components when deciding the best answer. You do an amazing job with breaking it down, and providing us with a concrete method. Looking forward to taking your course:)

    Parents are aware of child their child’s behavior. So it was correct for social worker to refer child for an evaluation.

      But still the social worker her self would have to meet and inform parents get consent before refer. Though the teacher said so! This is tricky

    For the application question answer, wouldn't it make more sense to call her OBGYN as the next step, instead of referring her to a substance abuse treatment program? My reasoning is this: It's not a habit at this point; the client states that she drank a beer or two when she fought with her boyfriend, there's no mention that she has done it more than once. Plus, she might take it as an insult, saying something along the lines of "You think I'm an alcoholic?!", which might hurt the formation of the trust needed to build a successful professional relationship with her.

      Using alcohol to deal with a stressor is a sign of alcohol abuse.

      I was conflicted too. So i spent some time googling it. Drug enforcement during pregnancy deters women from getting adequate prenatal care. Which benefits no one and is a double whammy. Referring to a short substance intervention program like SBT would be the wiser choice, and not promote avoidance and resistance of the client, therefore least harm done to both mom and baby

    • @EPGallo
      @EPGallo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      also, screw jeopardizing building rapport with the client...she knows what she's doing is wrong...she should be a grateful worker is suggesting counseling vs getting the police involved. Your duty is to the most vulnerable person first I believe. Counseling would also address the domestic unrest, to avoid it escalating to full-blown DV once baby is born. Boojah :)

    Isn't it required to meet with the parents despite what the teacher says about their knowledge? you can't just work with a 10 year old without involvement of the parents, particularly if referring out to a specialist.

      I agree, at my agency we would have to talk with parents first

    • @EnvisionPass
      @EnvisionPass  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I do understand, but it did state that the parents are aware of the behavior which means that discussion was already made. Remember the question is asking what would you do NEXT. The question does not have to state that discussion was made as long as it shows that the parents are aware.

    • @EnvisionPass

      Remember never to use your personal and professional experiences when answering the question. Read the question thoroughly and stick to only what is being stated/asked.

      I agree with your concern. If in real practice, I have to meet parents first see if parents are ready and agree social worker to refer their child for the assessment. That question confuse us. I am going to take my exam august 2018.

    What sucks is I TOTALLY DISAGREE with some of the answers, I mean, I would always speak with the parents before sending a child to an evaluation. The teacher made the parents aware, but do the parents really understand what's going on? The teacher isn't a mental health professional. It's important they understand why the child needs to be evaluated. I hate this stupid exam.

    • @the925lady

      I agree, the parents would have to sign a release to have an evaluation done. This doesn’t make sense!

      @@the925lady 1) Make a referral 2) Send home information regarding the referral (I imagine teacher contacts parents?) 3) Parents either agree or disagree.

      It's not about what you do its about what you should do. Parents are aware, the question asked what would you do next. Why are you moving backwards when they said next? refer refer refer for evaluation. A referral doesn't mean he will get one or will the parent agree to one. Your job is to refer

    • @Leoshortee
