The fire chief is a disgrace
On the one hand, it’s overwhelming, and some folks respond certain ways to those stressors, on the other hand, that chief’s cutting off his nose to spite his face, and is frightened to accept unasked for air help he felt he wasn’t “in control of”. That’s the kindest thing I can offer in a situation like that.
He’ll get to cover his ass when confronted publicly about this situation by saying “unauthorized resources” were in his area, but he failed the situation in this scenario.
Long story short, that helo pilot will have opportunities to help in other areas with welcoming arms, lots of opportunities for him in a disaster this massive.🤨
Let this man help those people!
The idiot that gave the order “not to interfere with HIS operation” should have his name publicized so we can let him know how much we appreciate his “leadership”
Sounds like this Chief is a,,, well add any word you like. He will have a hard time trying to explain this to his taxpayers in his district!!! Amd come on Queen city news release his name, amd get in contact bc he needs to explain his self!!

Always remember after a disaster, government agencies always take a while to get to areas in wide spread situations like these. Good samaritans and their resources are always gonna be around first so let them help. That fire chief was just mad he wasn't there first so he can look like the hero with his big panties.
I'm somewhat familiar with that area but I'm a FW pilot not RW. That's a prickly gorge due to the winds and I've never descended into it. LL has some unique politics so I'm not surprised he got this response. Given the situation (with 1 of 2 rescues still waiting in the risk area) I probably would have told the chief to pound sand, or to get his cuffs out and be ready to arrest me when I got back with the other passenger, and then let my attorney handle it. With no active NOTAM/TFR in the area, and if he's not managing air ops of his own, this village fireman has zero authority over airspace, even if he is right that it is a risky operation for a civilian to be conducting. FEMA needs to get involved with this general mess quickly, because that is a dangerous area for air ops on a good day, much less following a disaster with more and more civilian pilots trying to get into the same airspace using a CTAF.

That Chief is against the idea of a community coming together in a time of need. Neighbor helping neighbor. That's against religion. Chief Should be Taken to court for religious persecution.
Considering the internet response when a Karen is hunted down and saturated with emails, I will enjoy seeing the response when Mr. Ego's name is released. I hope it isn't before he has finished with the help he can give the people that need the help he can give. I wonder how he would have helped those people without a helicopter. I wonder what kind of conversation the husband that was left will have with Mr. Ego when he sees him.

The pilot says that he is familiar with rescue/first responder operations, but he seems to be stupid/clueless to the fact that the fire chief is the incident commander for the emergency. All rescue operations have to go thru and be approved by the incident commander *prior* to being implemented. The pilot was flying uncontrolled in emergency operations space and might interfere with real rescue aircraft operations in the error. Long story short, the pilot got himself overdone on social media post, has no provided emergency responder qualifications, took his son, who is probably a minor, into an emergency area, and I doubt the son has an active helicopter pilots license to be a legal "copilot" of the aircraft. Rich boys and their expensive toys can pose a hazard in emergency operations. Just saying.
Wow.... that chief needs to be fired..... he doesn't know how to run an operation on saving people. He is in the way, not you sir, the experienced pilot and former police officer, I feel bad for the people you could have helped if an intelligent person would have been where you dropped people off.
Sounds like a tricky flight parh but all the guy had to do was check the pilots credentials and make a decision to include him in operations. Sad and shameful to shut down extra help.
In times of crisis, the government is not there to help you. The government’s one, and only, mission is to maintain their power and control. Anyone that appears to challenge the general population’s dependency on government will be treated as a threat.

An absolute disgrace !!!! This fire chief should be fired immediately and a criminal investigation against him. The pilot & couple should press charges . Remove this power hungry egotistical POS ! WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT HIM IN CHARGE OF ANYTHING !!!!!

The old "kids and animals" emotional-angle to get others on his side. The pros don't need these wanna-be heroes getting in their way. I flew a helicopter for a sheriff's office in upstate South Carolina for several years. I didn't need some amateur cluttering the airspace after we coordinated with the FAA/regional ATC for airspace closure and clowns like this refused to comply. He should be facing FAA sanctions as any act as POC, even before takeoff, may well cost him that certificate if he interferes in closed airspace with official rescue efforts of which he has not been made part of. This includes radio communications with a handheld radio, the aircraft radio station, or claiming to be a pilot involved with the rescue when using any communication device.
