    Who in their right mind would accept a job for ANY amount of money that overworked you, overburdened you, and then made you liable for peoples lives?

      All talk no action. I mean how difficult is it to see that we need mandated nurse-to-patient ratios and mandated meal breaks!?

      @@formerfundienowfree4235 Sadly nation wide this will never happen as long as money talks patients and nurses along with healthcare staff will suffer

    Yeah get rid of Magnet status which over taxes nurses with pointless metrics and get more staff that actually do meaningful work. Nursing unions help no one, nurses deserve a strong advocate like they are for their patients.

    This has been brewing for a long time. Ever since more non profit hospitals were being sold to for profit companies. In order to maximize profits these companies increase nurse to patient ratios without regard to acuity. Even when they claim to use acuity for staffing the numbers are skewed in favor of profits over actual healthcare. They will use slick talking corporate people to try and mitigate this publicly but it's still the truth. These hospitals are now a business that like all other for profit businesses look to increase their bottom line. That means increasing productivity of its workers. A big part of that is nurse to patient ratios. The nurses and patients both get shortchanged as all companies try to placate their customers, the people or entities that pay for the goods or services they offer, in order to stay in business. In the case of hospitals that relationship is not between the patient and the hospital but the insurance companies and the hospitals. That's where the financial transaction occurs. The patients and nurses are just cogs in the wheel of that relationship. We can talk about this, take surveys, and complain about this but unless there is a big change in the way healthcare and hospitals operate it's unlikely to change. In corporate America, which most hospitals are part of now, money always wins.

    Healthcare is breaking down around us. I work in mass. 4 of our buildings are closing this week. We are losing our patients they are being sent all over the state. The owners of the buildings broke up the nurse/ patient families. These cnas make $17 an hour , worked through Covid only to laid off why would anyone want to go into nursing!

    How about making hospitals clinics owned by government, free health care. Your salary would be cut in half. What a social worker earns would be what a nurse earns, because their college efforts are similar.

      @@spoonypoon7998 I agree, our healthcare system is convoluted and hard to explain, but here are the main takeaways: We have a lower life expectancy then our peers. 1 Million deaths from COVID, this happened nowhere else, no other country came close. All other countries with nationalized healthcare spend less and have better outcomes. Plus their docs aren’t trying to kill you with opioids for profit. Regarding the VA, Congress, our congress voted to let vets suffer. So maybe I know a touch.

      @@ahmedmahmoud3568 Physicians and nurses in other countries like Germany don't make nearly as much as their American counterparts. The reality of American healthcare is that it is a business first, health second. Which is unfortunate.

    • @KEP1983
      @KEP1983 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's not exactly it. You have to take care of more people than is safe, but if you make a mistake (or just can't get around to someone because there's not enough time and no staff to split up the labor the way it should be) then you can still get sued. There should be legal protections for nurses if they are put into situations with unsafe nurse: patient ratios.

      and any real nurse knows those 12 hours days aren't actually 12 hours. it's longer. Don't get to eat and often time have to stay after your shift to finish up.
