Make Noise Strega | Episode 05 | Patches from the Manual

- For this episode, I wanted to let you hear the numerous patches which are documented in Strega's manual. There are patches from Alessandro C, Tony Rolando, Peter Speer, Walker Farrell, Sarah Belle Reid, LightBath, Jake (Pugh?) and Tim Held. I realized I didn't leave much space for 'Bare Strega' in my previous videos, so this was a very cool way to let you hear it 'as intended'. I was afraid this would be a boring video but it's actually a bit relaxing to listen to these noises :).

I had heard many of your vids before, but just ran across this one looking for some more insights/inspiration into what I think will be one of my Christmas presents. Thank you for sharing what is in the manual as it gives some understanding to the possible palette. This thing is going to pair (threesome really) so nicely with my 0-Coast and 0-CTRL. Also will sound great with my Quadrantrid Swarm...

I am a beginner with my make noise tabletops machines (just got the Strega + O-Ctrl + O-Coast a couple of weeks ago), so I will learn a lot with your vids. Thanks for sharing your experiences with your MakeNoise Gear.

a whole universe of sounds ...I am still exploring mine and the manual patches are a great help . But yours sound way better...I have to re-think my mastering chain
I've been using the Shared System's final output and a balanced TRS stereo 6mm jack to XLR cable going into my audio interface. I am not sure, but there could have been glue compression on my master to flatten the dynamics. If you record something in your DAW, it's no crime to use a bit of EQ and compression before bouncing it :)
@@CinematicLaboratory thank you very much ! Normally I try to record as unprocessed as ai can. But you are right a bit of subtle limiting / compression / eq never hurts . Keep up the good work!
The added reverb has a big impact on the sounds. Without it the patches in the manual sounds completely different. I whish we could hear the complete video whithout the erbe verbe.

Sorry for the late response, I'd say 70% is the delay and 30% for the bare voice.
I still don't understand why they don't make these in a way where you can rack em up in a eurorack case like any other module.. standard eurorack ribbon cable .. over the years I've been slowly remodeling my shared system .. making it its own instrument .. it'd be so awesome ..

The Strega is not my cup of tea... but I hope I can buy you a beer (or two) one day, because I grab parts of these sounds and granulate the hell out of them 😅🤣👌🏼
Happy to hear this video has served its purpose. Strega will be too experimental for many. I'd gladly take a case to Studio 48 so you can granulate the living daylights out of it. I'm also happy to share the soundtrack of this video to SoundCloud so you can download it.
@@CinematicLaboratory For the SoundCloud option, I usually go to a 'TH-cam downloader' and grab the .wav and use Audacity to take (cycle) samples up to 5 or 10 seconds. The rest will be done by the Nebulae V2. I think for granular the sound quality is less important. But it might help others or you could consider doing prepared (patreon?) reels...
For the 'case option', very generous! Let's do a beer first before taking out all the gear 😉 🍀

oh no it's great -- learning so much from your videos, it was just funny that they hadn't shared a bunch of the strega videos you made earlier and i wonder if it was just because you'd racked the strega
Thanks! No it's just that it's hard to come up with a new subject and the manual has so many patch examples (way more than usual) so I thought it would be cool to make a video about it. Also, I feel Strega is a weird synth that looks much better than it sounds (imho). Honestly, I want people to spend their $600 wisely. Anything sounds good in a big eurorack case. But Strega - on its own - is pretty limited.
I’m glad to hear this considering the huge hype over it. I love the company and Cortini but luckily I opted for continuing to build my personal setup to my liking instead of what in Strega feels too much like someone else’s voice. Cool, but expensive for its limits.
