I love Brandon. And I love Bruce and his JKD. However, you can not block a kick with your hands the way he did it as it has a good chance of shattering. Best you can do is move out of the way, or move in, where your body takes the force nearer to the pivot point where it is weaker.... then you can initiate a take down...
I was thinking the same , the corny line (which is true) from the 'Karate Kid' what's the best defence? Answer : Don't be there..... I too was always taught NOT to block a kick with an open hand, too much chance of finger damage and it's a weaker block.
You are wrong. You can block a kick by hand if the kick has executed by none professional athlete ( beginner and etc ) especially in your weight class or lower.

This is clownship. Bruce lee was a pionner of martial arts movies and he has received the greatest hype. After him guys who try to impress others look like clowns. Bruce lee took it all. And it's not because he was a great fighter and so on. It's because he was in the right place and time. He felt better than others the moment to impress people through entertainment industry and he knew how to do that as he was a child of movie industry. Therefore, guys relax.
