havent seen a comment yet about how the chosen animals the characters are based on have regenrative abilities of some kind: salamander with tails and limbs, bats with ears, wings and digits and axolotol which can do almost anything .and in the trailer they can "revive" after dying. and the main character is an axolotol which is the best animal in doing just that
That character isn’t a salamander but rather a lizard of some sort, as shown by their reptilian features such as their forked tongue. Also, there doesn’t appear to be a single main character as based off the description, there are three main characters that you can choose from. It’s like how borderlands doesn’t have a single main character but a choice of 4.
So while this is a neat theory, it’s disproven by the first character being a lizard and the fact the Axolotol isn’t the single main character

@@captainrelyk i can get behind the fact its not a salamander but some kind of lizard. but as mentioned, some lizards famously can regrow their tails. as for main character... he may not be the center of the plot, but they do portray him in the middle of the characters compositions, he fights the big super fight (with the help of friendship! as main characters do) and also the training dummy in shots from the gamplay on steam show an axolotol doll. so many proofs right there

Before I watch this, let me just say that I don't really care what this game is, I'll buy it because I trust y'all to do a good job, and I'll have fun with it anyways because there's clearly passion here. :D
Edit 4 months later: oh for the love of everything holy, SHUT UP ALL OF YOU. I know it's not typically good consumer practice to blindly support any company, but there's a concept many of you don't understand called "transactional goodwill".
This dev team has earned some good faith and respect because they went above and beyond with all the free updates and excellent DLC's they've done with Dead Cells, and because I'm choosing to not be a pessimistic jackass, I'm willing to support this next project of theirs, even if there's a chance it won't be my new favorite game, because even if I won't enjoy it so much, with my support they can give that same experience I had with Dead Cells to more people.
You can give those who earn it a break from all the bitching and whining. And if they take it for granted and grow complacent, by all means you hold their feet to the fire again.

Yeah I think all of them moved to evil empire. Technically they’re still in the same office and they occasionally look at each other’s work and advice, but I doubt any of the evil empire workers actively worked on this new one

I love that the teacher gave one of their apprentices a bloody nose with a stick and used that same stick covered in blood to greatly emphasize something on the board. It’s the respect to the tiniest details that really makes me happy.

It's amazing what can be accomplished in today's era of technology, creativity, and opportunity. Deadcells started out as an independent side scroller game and they expanded into a great gaming company. I hope the founders continue to grow the company and create more amazing games and treat their employees well.

I hope it's the opposite... As someone that has run out of friends to play multiplayer with, I hope that it's a "control all three characters" type of game.

@@Edgee_yy That doesn't necessarily mean it's single player supporting. Almost like how in every modern multiplayer game (call of duty, fall guys, fortnight, counter strike etc.) you die and then spectate the rest of everyone playing until they die.

if i had to guess, he will be one of the fallen warriors you can save the soul of and infuse your self with him. one of the main gimmicks of this game is infusion of souls to enhance your self and weapons.

Bro this animation needs to be made into a series. I have watched this 5 times already, stopping at pretty much every frame. The soundtrack that was in the trailer was beautiful, too!
Also, it looks so good that I think the animation team was the same one who worked on the Laika: Aged Through Blood game and the Cult Of The Lamb trailers.

Everyone are praising the animation here, but can we say something about the absolute MARVEL of track playing? The comically cheerful tune when heroes are running straight into TPK in their first time, the focused background beat on gameplay demo, all culminating into eerie trance-like howl as the Hero and his spirit look at their destined trial.
Sure, visuals can see your game going places, but it's music and sound that upgrade good games into masterpieces.
Definitely not happy about dead cells being cancelled for this, but at least it looks decent
Reminder that motion twin forced evil empires to stop working on dead cells updates in order to funnel the player base to wind blown. This has been confirmed by a past motion twin dev, if you like dead cells do not buy this game.
According to that same person, a current motion twin dev said in regards to deadcells fans, “What do we owe them?”, they think they owe us nothing
Let make them realize that what they do is a completely big mistake, they decide to end their best marketing game

Great pick for this sort of action, and very expressive too. Even with my problems with rogue, a multiplayer one can be great fun (Spelunky for example), and I’ve heard great things about Dead Cells & played a bit of it, so hoping for the best.

Dead Cells was one of my favorite games for a long time. Seeing Windblown on TGA I immediately felt it was familiar but I couldn't put my hand on it where I've seen it.
YOU GUYS ARE SO AMAZING!!! This is one of the two games I cared about on TGA and will surely buy it when it releases. BEST OF LUCK!!!

If you took this entire concept, idea, worldbuilding, etc for this game and turned it into an animated series using the very people who made this trailer...it would perform infinitely better than your game will. This animation was POWERFUL.

The older I get the more I'm finding myself play great gems like these. Tunic, Death's Door, Owlboy, Laika, Hyperlight Drifter... Makes me wish I got into these kinda games back in my teens instead of following the mainstream for so long.

To put it shortly, Evil Empire did a tremendous job at keeping the game fresh and alive, while taking great care of their players.
On the other side, I’ve seen first-hand how we, Motion Twin, considered our player base, years before Dead Cells even existed. Back when we were making dozens of Browser/Flash games. Our short term strategy was: release, update a bit, drop. It’s not some confidential information, it’s basically what our old player base, from the pre-Dead Cells era, know. I have obviously been part of that, but as a cooperative company, decisions were taken together, and I had my share of disillusion on that topic.
Obviously, when Dead Cells became the success we all know, MT decided to instantly ignore all of its past web-era player base. Fun fact, our former loyal players even waited more than 4 years and hundreds of requests to get the source code of long dead web games, mostly because MT didn’t care much. Thanks to their incredible love and dedication, some of our old creations were brought back to life (see Eternal Twin).
Seeing a similar abrupt termination decision from MT about Dead Cells, I can all but extrapolate on what happened behind the scene.
The current Motion Twin team is more or less 3 people from the former Dead Cells team, including one employee that joined lately, and one who took care of the administrative stuff. Most of the true original team members are now gone. Even MT founders are long gone: one founded Shiro Games (Dune, Wartales, Northgard), one created Shotgun King, and me, well.. wait for it, cool things are in the making :)
To be honest, the only true Dead Cells team is now basically Evil Empire that managed to carry the flame for so long, with a true love for the franchise.
Even I didn’t trusted them, when we decided to give them our baby. I seriously doubted that anything cool would happen from this deal. Oh I was so wrong. Five years later, Motion Twin was responsible for the 1st million units, while Evil Empire made the 9 following millions (public data).
The kind of obvious reason for all this fuzz is certainly to leave room for Windblown, the upcoming dash-dash-dash rogue from MT. As the press slowly started to realize that the Dead Cells true architects were now EE, I can easily see how the panic happened at MT. If you check the recent articles about Dead Cells, EE was mentioned more and more as the actual authors, which was honestly quite fair, given their supportive pedigree. But I can imagine MT didn’t like the fact that people started to realize that.
I kind of understand the MT strategy: it’s a rather logical marketing stunt. Get rid of Dead Cells to leave room for Windblown. But as Motion Twin always did, it’s a one-way strategy that leaves people behind: both loyal players and employees at EE. Nothing really new, unfortunately.
I’d close that topic by simply quoting someone still part of the current MT team (I hope he won’t mind, I kept him anonymous). He had some interesting take, as we debated about how we should, or should not, take care of our past communities and our former player base:
“Why bother? What do we owe them?”

Majority of the dead cells devs moved to evil empire who did every update from 2019 onward. Mt also forced evil empire to can 2-4 planned updates for deadcells to make room for windblowns hype.
One of the updates was an overhaul to the start+ a unique legendary affix for each weapon.
Motion twin also tried to remove evil empire from the credits but reverted it due to backlash.
Do not support wind blown or motion twin. They are no longer the creators of deadcells.

Super far away? Hades 2 is going into early access somewhere within the first half of next year. This game's early access is either just as far away or even further away.

This premature cancellation of dead cells and economic cut on Evil Empire , just so this game takes the spotlight is very unethical at best. I hope the majority of dead cells fans wouldn't support this game , and looking forward to Evil Empire's new project !
I wonder if the two companion characters stay dead after that boss. The gameplay seemed genuine but the final shot implies they might not come back? That's pretty brave to put so much emphasis on a limited part of the game. But I'm pretty interested nonetheless

They(evil empire) had a lot of future stuff(upcoming dlcs??) planned and since mt had a major stake in dead cells they ditched it completely. i will never forgive mt for this d*ck move.
