I used to work for a company that made research drugs for cancer treatment. This Tylenol incident changed everything for the pharmaceutical industry. My company had to build gigantic fences around the property, issue different security badges that unlock different doors, hire guards, etc. And every group of new employees had to take a security class. Before this incident, it was way too easy for anyone to slip something deadly into any pill bottle and nobody would know

@@kennykool100 back in those days, people still had faith in humanity. There wasn't a lot of security because nobody believed someone would be so wicked, to put deadly chemicals into drugs that are meant to save lives. At least not here in America. The Tylenol murders were a huge wakeup call.

my late wife was in the bio pharm ind. yes a lot changed. especially on the consumer end., security labels, security tamper proof bottles and caps. mostly getting away from "2 piece caps" that can be opened, spiked and closed up without much effort. way too easy to tamper with stuff on the consumer end. now its not so easy.

100k is bound to be enough of a reward for somebody to talk, especially after this long. But something tells me that J&J doesn’t want to find the killer or increase the reward b/c doing so would bring it back to the public’s attention. …
To a business like J&J offering 1000 is the equivalent of requesting vital information in exchange for pocket change sitting between the couch cushions.

I was a toddler in the Chicago burbs and my mom was a hospital nurse. My mother would never give us name brand Tylenol after this and for some reason I just always took acetaminophen as an adult never connecting it.

It seems odd that a pharmaceutical company like the one that makes Tylenol would conclude that publicity about possible tainted products should be avoided. I mean, every other big pharmaceutical is completely honest and forthcoming, …right?

1982?!??? Well no wonder I don’t remember this, I was 2 years old. I was listening wondering how TF this could happen in this day in age given technology & cameras. Yea I’ll be much more hesitant to take ANY meds sold OTC.

The product tampering person could make tamper proof bottles appear not to have been tampered with! Or, take note of who carried out the investigation at the factory & decided the factory wasn't at fault!!!!

I the live chat comment section of this video, I noticed someone mentioning that the have never seen Tylenol Australia 🇦🇺, the reason being is that Tylenol is just a Brand name for Acetaminophen, so the equivalent would be Panadol for Australia.

Is this case why Americans are so freaked out by Tylenol??? We use it all the time in the UK, we call it paracetamol, but Americans act like its literal poison, this would explain why 🤔🤔

I’m surprised Tylenol didn’t go under after this! I never heard of this either. At first listening to this I was thinking it had happened in Europe or somewhere else overseas. I didn’t know it was here in the states.
