This is why I love Edge Pro. They just want to provide top tier products and service and not gouge you on replacement stuff like a lot of companies will gladly do.

When I email them with questions, I am surprised not only by how quickly they respond but also by the how much detail they provide in their answers. I will NEVER use another sharpener. Edge Pro is the best.
Is there a difference between "Glue" & "Contact Cement"? I am asking because I have some Loctite Extreme Glue that I'd like to use up and wondered if it would be okay to use for this purpose? My main concern is when it comes time to heat up the metal to remove the remaining stone. Will the stone still come off as easily as it does with contact cement?
Yep. Super 77 works great though. I think I'll try this the next time. Either way, they do a great job of gluing the stones to the blanks. I have a couple stones from Gritomatic that fell right off after soaking them in tap water for 5 minutes, lol.
@@carlosmatos9848 I used this method to glue a Spyderco Medium to a blank and it has held up well. I haven't had any bad experiences from Gritomatic's stones but I will definitely keep an eye on them
@@anthonywaldrep5982 I think it was mainly due to the prep work. I always scuff up the blanks with sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad and then clean them with acetone. It seems like if I do that, they won't come off no matter what, well at least until I hit them with a propane torch, lol
Thanks so much for the video! I was just using a Shapton 120 grit to reprofile a chewed up blade and the adhesive just came off! I'm extremely disappointed with that for the cost So far I've had 0 problems with the Edge pro stones. We'll see how their 220 holds up and if it doesn't then screw them Edge pro all the way!
They are necessary if you're going to sharpen the knife using an Edge Pro. The stone blank allows the stone arm to hold the stone, and provides support behind the stone to keep it from cracking when you apply pressure, or when the stone wears thin.
Ryan, Unfortunately you can not do this with the Diamond Matrix stones. They cure directly on to the aluminum backing, so purchasing them unmounted is not possible. Great question - after I finished this video I knew someone was going to ask and I wished that I had covered it!
It's 3m super 77, can get it from home depot and it's a tall black and red spray can but can be messy. The cement works much better and what I use (weld brand) is also sold @ home depot.
David, we use 3M super 77 here at the factory. It also works great, and it comes in a spray can. The down side to it, is that it gets really tacky really fast, so if the stone is not perfectly centered when you touch it to the aluminum then you can't manipulate the positioning to get it centered. If you're gluing together large amounts of stones it would be a better fit, but for just a couple at a time the brush on is less expensive and more forgiving.
I bought edge pro last week. I’ve got 15 knives waiting for it to be delivered. Not including all of my friends knives. Hopefully the learning curve isn’t too steep with it.
How did it go? Took me maybe two or three knives to practice on and get the hang of it, especially using my left hand. Probably done at least 100 knives with it now and it's almost second nature.
that is exactly what I plan to do. I have one with a wide range of temperatures that I can dial in. I use it to loosen the Loctited screws on my pocket knives.
Love it, Edge Pro is still my go to sharpener after all these years.

Contact cement seems a lot less messy than the 3M Super 77 spray that Ben recommended a few years back. Awesome video!!
