Looking forward to seeing this engine build, mine is built with wossner pistons and PEC rods. I'm wanting to build a spare engine in the near future and be nice to see how you guys get on 😉
Thanks Nathan! Glenn here, I am excited too, Russell helped me build my B204 Saab engined Mk4 Astra so I can't wait to see his Corsa finished! He will fabricate a custom exhaust manifold to mount a GT2871R on this too, so it should be lively!
Well the 2nd hand engine cost approx £300 and the rebuild kit along with the modifications will run into a couple of grand! :) Thanks for your comment and feedback! Much Appreciated!
hey lads bit late to this video but im looking to upgrade to an entry level performance car for my second one and the vxr seems the best of them all, the only thing holding me back is this piston 4 problem but im only running it stock for year until im 21 (cheap sky modded insurance) and then ill be looking to forge etc would you recommend getting one as long as it gets the required tlc?
Having owned 2, the first one i blew up myself because i used to treat it piss poor. The second one was a better story as i treat it properly, they're fine. So long as you genuinely do look after the car, let it warm up, cool down etc etc then it's fine. One thing to remember is when you get a remap, make sure to change the injectors as in stock form the engine is being pushed to the limit as is. Change of injectors + a remap is actually considered safer than standard. Other than that, they're a fun car, sound great with an aftermarket exhaust, really really quiet without. I might be getting a 3rd one haha
@@jayteey3743 fair man thanks for the info, I'm sure I can find. out the best preventative measures on forums. it's such a shame they have a bad reputation they are decent machines
@@Wyan860 To be fair mate, it's only because they're quite cheap to get your hands on, and because it's usually a car someone gets as their first "performance car" it's also a car were they learn about, which means a lot of shit breaks, they are decent cars
Most likely caused by the typical fuel supply problems suffered on cylinder 4 in these engines! Mix that with bad service regimes... And you have a disaster waiting to happen! We are only guessing as we dont know the history of the car and engine!
I am no expert, but I believe the build up on cylinder 4 was caused by a mixture of a bad burn cycle mixed with oil, we believe the cracked piston was cause by the common fuel starvation of cylinder 4 on these engines which in turn could have caused the rod to bend!
I dont know what Vauxhall/Opel/GM were thinking when they approved the use of that particular supplier of Pistons, Rods etc... They are shocking quality!

Great video Glenn!
Thanks Aaron!
Keep up the good Work Glen
What are the best pistons for this engine?
I see there is a few options on the Market but dont know the differences
In our opinion, Wossner are the most popular and the quality is top notch!! 😀👌
When is the next video for this going to be up? Need to build mine and would be interesting to see what to do.
Episode 2 should arrive on Monday Jamie! Apologies, we have been so busy lately! But plenty of content waiting in the wings!
New video is now online Jamie! Again apologies for the wait & thanks for your patience!
Hold Er Flat legend! Cheers lad!
Погодите... А, почему на моем f14d4 есть vanos, а тут нет(
Cool video and you guys definitely know what you’re doing, how much would something like this cost out of curiosity?

@@jayteey3743 yeah it'll be my first performance car lmao, i just hate the rep they get due to that. their power potential once forged is absurd
Why did it bend the rod?
Why did it crack the piston

Maybe the previous owner was holding her flat too much?
@@sickomotorsport yeah its very possible!! Or they didnt stick to service intervals!
Wise up and get blocked mate
