There's nothing modern about this, nor is it unexpected. Same moves my great grandparents have been doing and what I was forced to learn in public school phys Ed in kindergarten back in 1986.
The enthusiasm is great, but there were way too many views of the confederate flag and the cross. If all I knew of square dancing was what was in this video, I would not be signing up. I'd assume it was 100% white and "Christian"...the kind of Christian that is unconcerned about equality and inclusiveness.
Since I am a square dancer, I did not even notice the flags. Once I went back and looked, I realized that there are NO confederate flags or crosses. What you saw were State flags and one British banner. I guess anyone can see what they expect to see. This dancing is inclusive of ANYONE who wishes to learn to dance. I dance all over the country and have never seen any racial bias. Most will say a prayer at the beginning of the dance but it has always been non denominational (accept Jewish as they call on Jesus many times) and brief. You can now find clubs that focus on homosexuality in that all the dancers are male or all female. I am sorry that you saw this video the way you did and ask that you view again with fresh eyes.
@@cherylrush793 "focus on homosexuality"? There are indeed same sex couples dancing but there's nothin' dirty going on! The gay clubs, at least in the Pacific Northwest in my experience, are welcoming, non-judgmental, safe environments where all people seem to have a ton-O-fun.
The one with I Saw The Light was electric! I bet that was a fun crowd of dancers! (& how many squares? Omgosh!)
My favorite activity
dont knock it until you try it
No... this is exactly what I was expecting -_-

People see what their preconceived notions dictate I suppose
Buffoon, in your lib-iotic rush to haste, you confused what appears to be the Union Jack for the confederate flag. smh.
