Is This The Real South India?! First Time in Madurai

- Madurai is a city mostly famous for things you can put in your mouth. Stumbling upon this restaurant was one of the best things that happened to me in South India. It was bloody delicious. Also I met a weird Shiva devotee and ate the famous Jigarthanda.
enjoy, Mike x

Those boys were confused because of "Vegetarian" restaurant. In Madurai, most of the famous ones are "Non-vegetarian" providers. They probably would have given a huge list of those...
But madurai known for temples
@@rajsekharkarajada9830 There are temples where goats/Cocks are sacrificed. South India still preserves old traditions. Non-Veg is not a taboo subject, especially in Madurai.

Love your sense of humor bro. You are the most kind, funny, respectful vlogger. Take care, stay safe. God bless you ❤
I love the 30 years local restaurant, the way they welcomed and handled, and the bachelor man who guide the Vlogger. It's not about whether you know how to speak English or not, its the welcoming attitude. Hats off.
Exactly, forget about the proficiency. All you need is a good sport and attitude. Most men shy off for no reasons, are hesitant to speak up and some make fun of them. Imagine yourself in a similar situation travelling solo in a random asian or european country.
Loves your channel as well as love your personality.

If your leg touches someone else or something we say sorry because we believe GOD recides in everything and it is disrespect to touch with your feet
Exactly.. that man tried to tell many things but language barrier had him😢
I don't believe that but I still say sorry
So GOD doesn't reside in leg??
@@mukileswara12 he exits everwhere
Not exits .... you mean to say exists everywhere ?
Its not about touching....if you inadvertently stamp on someone or something you should apologise...thats a custom among locals in India. Don't mix this with untouchability which is prevailing elsewhere
Well said-my thought exactly, it is like saying I am sorry or pardon me. If somebody mix up this with untouchability, it is just cultural ignorance, that it!!
Touching feet is a form of practising caste as well. In the varna system, feet are considered the most unclean part of God. Hence, shudras were considered to be born from the foot. The fact that people still consider foot to be unclean still astonishes me. Please don't pass such practices to the next generation. Your hands and fingers have more bacterias and shit than feet.
@@RecLarynGTouching Feet is different though.
And Foot isn't considered "Unclean".
Some People work with their Brains - Head
Some with Brawns (Soldiers) - Chest and Arms
Some with Money - Hands
And some with their Physical Work be the base of the society - Legs and Feet. (One cannot stand without the Legs)
@srikrishna2561 Your comment explains the basic structure of Varna and the caste system. Which proves my point.

Most people take packed food from home. That's why the students couldn't recommend any shop to you
It's that they can't judge what you may love to have. So they son wanna risk on u based on their decisions
Yes, exactly. In any country, any culture (of the past), locals wouldn't eat at hotels much. Hotels increased only by outsiders.

Madurai is over rated due to movies
It is actually an upgraded town😂
Wow great to see u enjoying and exploring new places... Bless u❤
Problem with recommending a good restaurant in Madurai is... They scattered around the city. You were standing at literally middle of the city which has very small restaurants and if you want to reach a good one you need to walk and take dozens of turns and it is extremely hard for anyone to give navigation for a walking person for a 2 or 3 kilometres of distance. So the local boys stunned.
Yeah bro I know one restaurant in Madurai where Rajini went I forgot the name sh*t, and he could have went to famous jigarthanda.
@@IteachbetterEditz "Amma Mess" or "Konar Kadai" or "Amsawalli Restaurant"
I did go to famous Jigarthanda
@SelectiveSnapper amma mess bro
Bro Mike Madurai famous jigarthanda has fake ones also the auto rickshaw guys know exactly where the real ones are, but near the temple all of them are fake ngl.
No point in asking locals of South about good food because most local people eat from their home. Home food and Mom's food is irreplaceable.
Mike you really made those guys' day and you did share some good take away from your visit to that restaurant.
India is not for beginners, India is a place of intense
The one jigathanda you had at the last clip of your video is the actual original jigarthanda of madurai, it was from there the jigarthanda got famous not only in madurai but all over tamil nadu. Been there quite a few times and I can say it taste the best when compared to other jigarthandas.
Hi Mike Thank you for comming in Madurai you are choosing right place to visit. Welcome again in Madurai❤
Madurai is so famous for many things in this planet. Food is one important of it. And most people treat you with love. No cheating ,no scamming just pure love in thier food.

*TO MIKE OKAY:*
12:35 NO, the parotta-kneaders DO NOT work 20 hours a day-at least not on a regular basis.
Gosh, the THINGS that are said to make a video sensational in simply mind-boggling.
Probably about 18 hours, working in three shifts. A Parota restaurant usually won't start service till lunch time (so around 11 AM). The kneading a cooking would start at least 4 hours in advance.
@@SheshankReddyS
"Probably about 18 hours [...] start at least 4 hours in advance."
========================.
1. I AGREE that it is hard work.
2. HOWEVER, they do NOT knead the dough continuously for four hours before cooking it on the griddle or flat-top.
The kneaded and rolled-out dough is allowed to rest (in order to rise) for several hours before it is flattened into circles (again) immediately before it is cooked on the gridle/flat-top.
3. That means the workers do get substantial breaks/rest-time during the work-hours.
It is simply humanly IMPOSSIBLE to work non-stop for such long hours in the heat in places as hot as Madurai.
@@ex.hindu.now.atheist you're absolutely right. The dough has to be mixed and then rested. They are not working continuously. In either case there bound to be cooks working in two or three shifts for a restaurant that is open from 11 AM to midnight. I've spent time observing the kitchens at Anjappar and Adyar Ananda Bhavan in Chennai, and Bengaluru. Depending on the expected volume of business, the Parota team starts as early as 2 PM for dinner service. It takes time to roll out and make those individual laminated balls of dough. Each cook makes hundreds of them every evening.
Mike… cool content.
If they are from that city, they will not know. Only in India. Most people eat at home and people only get to know once they start working. Until then, they are not allowed to eat out except for small eats.
Brother our grandma .....True love from her words❤

Mike, your video on your South Indian tour was absolutely captivating! It beautifully captured the warmth and hospitality of Tamil people. However, let's be mindful of the language you use. Referring to Indians as "Boys" harks back to a bygone era. In today's world, let's honor and respect the Tamilian culture by choosing your words thoughtfully.
Madurai is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu . What a wonderful choice you've made mate !! And those lads couldn't suggest a place not beacuse they didn't know it , its just coz they are really humble and weren't really sure if it would meet you're requirement (Spice level included ) !! I feel you bro! Those 4 local guys couldn’t give you a few good names of places to eat at… that’s not very confidence inducing. I haven’t been to Madurai , but I’m not sure I want to go there for the food. Definitely for the architecture though!
