You can buy yours from Kai Yu at facebook.com/VanagonHack/ he is one of the good guys at the facebook group, vanagon owners, and makes high quality aftermarked vanagon parts 😀
I need one of these, since my dashboard seems to activate the oil pressure alarm for no reason, but the guy who sells them, seems to missing from some time now, judging by the fact that the site is down and he didn't post on Facebook since last year.
@@Italjohn He fix it few hours after I bout the kit from the UK site. I contacted the guy 2 days ago and didn't bother to communicate much. Initially, when I told him the site is down, he told me it's fine and that he keep receiving orders, without bother to check. Later after, he fix it, but unfortunately to late. To bad, because i liked his kit more. But it's good to know we have options. Thank you !
thank you, John. Watching your clip, i bought same kit but for my 1984 Vanagon with analog clock instead of tachometer on the right side. Something was not right and Kai has sent me another module he made just for my Van. Excellent customer service. Go to his website, guys. The Kai guy is great!
I've just ordered this kit ordered off Kai to replace my foil too, thanks for the video, I'm looking forward to the fix and thank you for the video for the confidence to do it! Is it still working ok?
Hello John, I finally received my instrument cluster repair kit and I'm very disappointed that there are no instructions. In your video you were using some instructions with pictures. Is there any were I can get a copy of the instructions? Help!
Hi John, when the foil was on the back of the cluster, there was a resistor that reduced the voltage to the temperature and fuel gauges down to 10 volts. The resistor was attached to the foil. When we remove the foil, there no longer is a resistor. Ho does that affect those gauges? Thanks
Yes I know, been a little slow on the videos this summer. But I'm about to start my summer holiday, and was hoping do I vanagon travel video of the trip.
Really like that clock! I replaced my stock item. Couple of years ago, but that looks nice enough to swap again! 😁 Enjoy you trip - I can’t wait to get out again
Hello John, it's me again. I'm having a very challenging time installing the clock. I'm only installing the clock, not the entire kit. The clock I received looks like yours, but I received 2 kinds of harnesses with different color wires and different connectors. I'm not replacing the LED lights harness, so there is no place to plug in the clock Do you know of any source that might help me with this? Thanks
John, just bought this cluster. Quick question, what that brass L bracket on the tachometer side? You took a screw out and later in your video the plate was gone. What’s it for, and won’t it be needed?
It goes out after 1 minutes, after you have turned off the ignition. I will have to check the manual regarding the 12/24 hour settings. It was something like this: Turn off the igniton, and wait until it goes out. Then hold down the right (or left) button and then turn on the ignition. Get back to you later.
Hello John. I realize this is an old thread, but need help and I'm hoping you will respond. I purchased the digital clock and it didn't come with any instructions on how to set it. Would you have this information? Thanks
Thanks for your super great video! I have 1992 VW euro camper with one problem temperature gauge needle not moving, can this kit solve this problem? Thanks a lot!
that is a really nice kit. i have a question at 3.25 when you unscrew the temp gauge there is a resistor looking thing on it. do you have any idea why that would be there and what it is? i had the exact same om mine but i ofc. forgot how it was installed.
@@Italjohn yeah i found out what it was but not what it does :) but now that i've seen your video i at least kinda know how it's supposed to be fittet again.
does this fit all models, or is this one specific to a Diesel, as the wiring loom connector will be different for a petrol model and different years had different wiring orders in the connector plug ??
How did you purchase? I do not see a “buy” button on their website, and the FB purchase link takes me to the same place. Awesome video, super helpful and informative.
Look here th-cam.com/video/OWjvhJS-Wqs/w-d-xo.html Link to the rings in the description. Press the little arrow in the right corner under the clip. Let me know if you can't find it, an I will post the link for you later.
Cool! Looks neat, I saw these advertised on FB but wasn't too sure as I'd seen the other kits in the flesh which were really messy, this looks pretty sweet, thanks for the video:)

If you mean the cooling plate for the transistor, that you don't need anymore.
Hey

How can i change this?

The little green one is a capacitor. i'm not sure what it does, but usually it's a kind of noise filter.
