Bullshit..... covid 19 is the ultimate exercise in mass hysteria created by our leaders, media and big business. A disease that only kills people with previous ailments is hardly deadly. We are a people of fools!
The relevance of this talk to our current 2020 life in the United States cannot be overstated. People have gone mad with safety. As if, just to stay alive is the whole point of life. I don't agree with this way of thinking and I hope most Americans wake up to the fact that life is to be lived despite all those possibilities of Destruction coming into your life whatever they be. We should not be forced away from each other by government decree. We should not be forced to wear masks inside stores that we contribute to. Big business should not be in business with government this way, which is a way of complete destruction in my view, not safety. Our small businesses in the United States have been hit by our own government like a bomb. Those orders coming from on high are really and truly destroying lives right now. Do you know the suicide rates? I just read a story of a young boy and his father. The boy was so isolated because of the orders to socially distance from his friends from the government, that he was in Despair and his father couldn't do anything about it. We all need to do something about it. Where is the compassion from these people in government. Covid-19 is the excuse? We have to honor life. They are not doing this. Love to everybody....💚

Why do we know we are not from here? Why do we feel like strangers? Because we are not like this place. We are energy, on a higher dimension than the visible dimensions our 5 senses can detect. Einstein gave us the clue: E=mc^2. Matter is energy. Energy is matter. We have a consciousness that even we cannot understand. Consciousness is the energy of existence. Through evolution, we have become slightly aware of our abilities, although we haven’t pulled the thread far enough. There’s so much more to learn. There are other beings out in the universe. Some more primitive, some more advanced, nonetheless they are out there. Watch the movie ‘Contact’. “If it’s just us ... seems like an awful waste of space.” Our journey has just begun ...
These musings by the esteemed author can be seen as faulty. These ideas, while inscrutable by scientific standards, lacks the wisdom of understanding. that each of of us with fully operating minds can conceive the entirety of existence. A thing we can barely understand or fully describe. In essence we, as a people, can grasp a concept as large as a universe that does not care for us. So much so that the delicate balance will continue with or without our species continuing. If we accept this, then we must also accept that the consciousness proliferated by such a system, also allowed for our species to comprehend such an ending. That being said, we are inherently formed by a system that complacently allowed us to become aware of its own demise. Being that not one individual would live to see the end of everything then where is the value of existence at all? It is in the understanding that, perhaps the universe wishes to have a view of itself from the perspective of those living in itself to better understand why being is better than not being. This view insinuates that while there is no ascertainable “intelligent design,” that we must also accept that nature, having birthed us in our present state, serves no purpose. But that would be a lie. We are here and aware. If only to have that information reincorporated into the fabric of some greater being or construct; that, in fact, is worth our having had existed. You matter. If only to me you matter. What we glean from this brief life matters more than you know. Science is cold. But we are people.
It continues to baffle me that Lewis is held in such regard by some. Here, as elsewhere, he fails to understand the atheist argument about meaning and purpose in a natural universe - at least, he fails to address it CS Lewis seems to me evidence that for many apologists, a happy way with storytelling will stand in for philosophical rigour.
I agree that Lewis is simple, but I don’t see what’s wrong with his argument’s here. You speak of the atheists reason for meaning. Is there an official Atheist statement agreed upon all atheists for what meaning is or where it derives. I’ve listened to many and talked with some atheists and each one has an answer but it isn’t the same.but many have a similar argument that Lewis uses. That’s just me though. I don’t know.
@@khanburger3610 you're quite right - it was silly of me to suggest there is just a single atheist argument or position. Lewis is perfectly entitled to feel dismayed, purposeless and depressed without his god, but that's far from a necessary response. He doesn't acknowledge this, any more than he attempts to demonstrate the truth of his alternative view; its merely asserted; "We must simply accept it - that we are spirits". So the essay amounts to little more than an exercise in projection, "I feel bad when I think of a godless universe, so everyone else must too. I've decided to believe in something that makes me feel better, so it must be true". I've read a lot of Lewis, and this tendency to ignore philosophical issues in order to reach a personally congenial conclusion seems characteristic.
@@shinywarm6906 I'm trying to piece together what the atheistic meaning is based on your initial comment and your reply but correct me in saying you're more in disagreement with how Lewis holds his theistic views versus the undefined atheistic view. The first response to your comment is correct in saying that the atheistic view Lewis speaks of is at least a common one, that is if nature is a sinking boat then why wait for it to sink? We may just end it sooner with nuclear war and nature would fulfill its purpose but there would still be no meaning for man if he is just nature.
@@kyleebrahim8061 thanks. you seem to have overlooked my reply to the first response. Which is to agree that there is no single "atheistic view" of meaning and purpose to living. What you describe as a "common" one I would suggest is not common at all. Just because a person can perceive no externally imposed meaning in the existence of the universe as a whole does not mean that the individual themself, or the community of individuals, are precluded from devising one. Lewis appears to have overlooked the most basic of observtion not to have noticed or bothered to take into account the countless doctors, scientists and artists who do not believe in a god yet who live with vigour, purpose and joy. The "sinking ship" analogy and the frankly pathological "might as well drown myself now" idea speak to me of projection rather than observation or logic.
@@shinywarm6906 and yet his point still stands: merely, so what? Your whole premise is essentially “the neurochemical cascade inside of my skull is obviously superior and more courageous to the neurochemical cascade in the skull of that senseless CS Lewis” Now, how is blade of grass superior to another blade grass? What makes one chemical reaction superior to another chemical reaction? Your ideas are not even your own. My ideas are not my own. There is no such thing as I, and no such thing as you. He literally goes about describing this thought process in the essay. The new atheist position of accepting that existence is devoid of purpose while simultaneously making the purpose of their existence attacking the meaningless beliefs of other meaningless bags of bones, is utterly incomprehensible. Denial of the self accompanied by extreme self assertion. Willing yourself to write essays about how free will doesn’t exist. At what point does one see the absurdity. Universes bringing themselves into existence for no reason whatsoever. Multiple worlds which are all illusions. Morality is an illusion.
Truer words were never spoken concerning our current times. (When you hear ATOMIC replace it with COVID-19 in your mind)
Ummm except only terminally people die from covid. The Marxist never lets a good crisis go to waste.

Oh for a nation that once again recognized that survival at certain costs is not worth having.
The Devil creates all types of worries and diversions from seeking ultimate truths.
I only wish that people in power and influence had the same aptitude to express their ideology and philosophy with such truth and fluency.
They were chosen because they lack such fluency.
Does anyone have the CS Lewis Doodle of this excerpt? Seems like it's been removed everywhere and would love to watch it.

Darkhorse brought me here. To state the obvious this should be our approach to Covid-19.
God bless!
Intellectually and spiritually delicious (so is listening to this fine by the same narrator from the space trilogy!)
The present day often seems extra special compared to the past.

Just wow!
Perfect metaphor in the age of the scamdemic
This resonates a lot with some of the stoicism I've read
Brilliant
