It was plus 15 C (59 F) yesterday and by this morning it was -5 C (23 F). Tonight will be -15 C (5 F). Crazy weather Moses and thank you for stopping by 🙂
Thank you Angel 🙂Sunny but cold and I was able to take advantage of the bare soil before snow covers it up again. Glad I could get some perennial seeds in the ground. Have a great weekend ❤
Haha.....my body is feeling every shift in weather this season for certain. I'm supposed to start getting more snow this week into next but then another shift is coming to warm up and then more snow, so who knows Sandra, lol 😆
Thank you 🙂The weather this year has been so strange but I had a wee opportunity to get some seeds down. Back into a deep freeze tonight and who knows what next week. Have a fantastic weekend and I hope you have had a reprieve from all that snow ❤Also hope the puppies are all well.
lol.........exactly. Thanks so much Loretta. One less job to do next spring and gives the seeds a head start because they are perennial and that's there natural way of falling and regerminating ☺
Wow... y'all from the Great White North are some hardy & tough folks! You say you're taking advantage of some good weather even as everything looks frozen & I'm hearing blustery cold winds. You're amazing, Krista!
Thanks John 😃It was blustery and cold with the wind and the ground was frozen, lol. But hey, the sun was shining and that always seems to make it feel warmer to me. The sun warmed up the soil enough for me to break through it and scoop some up to lightly cover the seeds I sprinkled on the ground ❤and a head start on some perennials coming up next spring 👍
Hello Krista 😊 I have not tried planting a head of time before. I am going to do some research on it. Thank you for sharing this! I love your property. It looks very cozy and so nice. The same thing happened here. We had quite a bit of snow and then got that storm and not the snow is almost completely gone. Wacky weather for sure. Stay warm 🧡
Thank you 💕Haha.......it certainly is wacky weather and I will do my best to keep warm. I am not certain which veggie seeds can be sown in late fall for early spring germination but generally anything that self sows is a good candidate, like dill. I will also be doing more research on sowing veggie seeds for next fall/winter. Have a great weekend 🙂
hello Krista it looks cold there....good video ,several plants need a cold period to wake up and get going in spring.Hope the seeds germinate well for you..take care 👍
"Great tip! 🌱❄ Cold stratification is key for getting those herbs and perennials thriving in the spring. 🌿🌸 Can't wait to try it with dill and other seeds! 🌾✨ #GardeningGoals"
Great update Krista I was going through my seeds to see what does and doesn’t benefit from cold stratification, I wish seed packs were a bit more clear about the need. We are getting rain so it’s warmed up to a balmy 5c here. Have a great weekend stay warm, Ali 🥶🇨🇦
Thank you Ali 🙂I totally agree with you and think the seed packs are general information for sowing direct during normal spring planting. To my understanding, any perennial seed can go in the ground before snow when the temps wouldn't permit germination. The soil that I lightly covered over the seeds today still had ice crystals in it, lol. Even if my temps get above 0 the ground is still cold. Since I had all my snow melt with the storm this week, it gave me a short window of opportunity to plant these seeds. I did also get the white phlox at the side of the house done with a light covering of soil. I will go out tomorrow and cover the seeds planted with some straw. The advantage of me doing this allows the seed to start germinating early next spring when the ground begins to warm which should technically give the perennial a head start which will allow it to get established before hot weather hits them. I guess it was a chance I am willing to take and we'll see what happens next spring ❤
Hi, it never gets that cold down here in Australia thank goodness. I do love our cooler weather but we are in summertime now, it doesn't seem to get as hot as it used to but where we live now it's often very humid. Very sticky and the flies can drive you nuts, while trying to work out in the garden. Hubby badly broke his upper leg a few weeks back so I've had to do most of the garden care on my own with a bit of help from our son. I hope your seeds come up for you and a white Christmas would look so pretty.🎄🎀⛸🛷☃❄⛄🎄
I will be sure to do a few videos over my winter here to show you Christa and everyone what it looks like. We also get very humid here in the summertime with major different kinds of flies that drive a gardener crazy, lol. It's nice that your son is helping you out since your husband was injured. I' wish him a speedy recovery ❤🙏
Thank you 🙂The next day it was down to - 15 C and it's been fluctuating all over the place. I was just glad I could get some perennial seeds in and break through the soil to tightly cover them up.
G’day Krista 😀 hard to imagine snow covering the gardens. We get cold here yet not quite that cold. I remember being in the snow though, it was magical 🙏🏻 Am going to try the no dig garden 🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰 xx
Hey Trace 🙂It sure can get pretty cold here at times and look magical all at the same time. I look forward to seeing you're no dig garden bed and yay for you.
@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu oh I wasn't criticizing my house needs all kinds of things done too and I actually know how to do and do all the stuff... I was just trying to state that if I lived a little closer I could come by and take care of it for you 👍👍

Fantastic! Do you mark every area that you plant? I forget after a while, and I only have 4 raised garden beds! Seriously, one year I thought I'd planted zucchini and when the vegetable grew they were cucumbers! LOL!
Haha.........well I do forget a few plants but for the most part it's in my head 😆I do have a board in the house and I've saved all the seed packs and notes I've written down. The goal is to get all those notes on the garden plan 😁If I forget, then I'll figure it out when it pops up. For sure a zucchini would look different then a cucumber, Jill, lol, and you figured it out 💕Thanks and have a great weekend.
So glad you found the information useful 🙂You cannot do this with annual seeds, only perennial. You also can't do it to early in the fall or the seeds will germinate and then freeze. No fear of them germinating in these cold temps. They have been lightly coated with soil and I will add a layer of straw over them tomorrow. I was to cold to finish that today, lol.
Very interesting method of sowing the seeds before winter sets in. Here it does not snow but I will talk and see if this method is ever used here. Thank you always for teaching us new things❤
Thank you ❤Cold temp growing regions can take advantage of this with plants that generally self seed, such as dill that I planted. I will be doing further research myself on veggie that I can do this with for next year. Have a great weekend 🙂

Hi Ellen. Yes, I do have deer but they don't seem to bother too much around here because I think there are to many hunters around. I would feel better with the property fenced. Maybe down the road.
