    What a fabulous video! Taking the mystique out of something by using simple steps is so helpful. I shall make mine ahead of Christmas Day. Thank you!

    I do mine in the slow cooker, frees up the oven and hob space. I love it.

    Adding to my Christmas prime rib roast dinner! Your roasted potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, too! Thanks, Ben!

    It's kind of a national dish were i'm from. For a cabbage this size i use 4 or 5 apples, depending on the size, + a couple of onions. That's how i learned it from my mother.

    Looks fantastic - could it be made the day before then gently reheated?

    I just had this recipe in my suggestions from TH-cam and I needed a recipe for Christmas so thought I’d watch it.
    However, the loud pumping dance music that appeared suddenly was a shock! I have a neurological condition which means that it’s hard to cope with loud music added over the human voice. I don’t know when it’s coming, and I don’t want to watch everything on mute because then I don’t learn anything!
    For anyone reading this, who doesn’t experience the same thing, I know how to turn down volume and I know how to mute 😮 but as a housebound person living alone, it’s nice to hear human voices.
    I just find that so many programs, every video and every advert and every documentary comes with loud pumping dance music. It doesn’t add anything to cooking or sewing or gardening etc.
    And for anyone who loves music with everything, you can add it. But because I can’t subtract the music, I will have to ask TH-cam to not recommend this channel.
    It’s a shame because the teaching style is really easy and helpful. This isn’t a criticism but just to let you know why some people can’t cope with the ‘music added to everything’ videos. ❤

    I’m gonna try this for our Christmas dinner. An it be pre-made in advance?

    • @BenGoshawk
      @BenGoshawk  วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Yeah, just let it cool and you can just re-heat in the pan with a shot of water and the lid on. You can make it the day before if you want to get ahead of the game.

    OK. For 2 people this is waaaay too much. I have never been able to buy a red cabbage small enough for us. Always left with 3/4 of one which ends up mouldy and bin fodder - other ideas for recipes/other uses for the rest?

    • @BenGoshawk
      @BenGoshawk  18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +5

      Pickle the rest, it'll last forever then

      I discovered my local store also sells halved cabbages, maybe yours does too. You can also chop up the cabbage, a green onion, shred some carrot and mix together. Add some balsamic salad dressing and it's delicious and crunchy. Red cabbage salads are all I have with dinner now because they last so much longer than lettuce.

      Wrap it tightly and place it in a plastic bag to retain moisture. Even after being cut it should last around a month in the refrigerator, you'll just need to trim off the cut edge as it will dry and discolor over time.

    Honestly, this seems like a severely simplified version of traditional German "Rotkohl". Try making the proper version.

    • @andrewwoodgate3769
      @andrewwoodgate3769 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      This is the traditional British version.

    • @clarity-in-motion9393
      @clarity-in-motion9393 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      This is the real English version, far superior than anything German.
