- Daytime Emmy-winner, and iconic and beloved actress, Linda Dano, chats with Michael Fairman on her return to the world of daytime drama taking over the role of Vivian Alamain on Days of our Lives.
Linda and Michael also discuss her legendary career in the soaps including: her signature role of Felicia Gallant on Another World, and its heartbreaking cancellation, the taping of its final episode, and the cast and friendships she made along the way.
In addition, Dano talks about her first soap role as Gretel Cummings on One Life to Live, and later coming back to the show (following Another World), where she was now "Rae" Cummings and how she appeared on all the soaps in the ABC Daytime line-up in a one-of--its-kind crossover story, and more.
Fans who have followed Dano's career also know her as talk-show host, and a fashion maven, in which she dressed many celebrities, had her own style business and more, which are part of this conversation with Linda.

I have been a fan of Linda's for years. I met her several times and she is such a wonderful lady. Even got to see her when she did Mame years back in New Hope, PA. So glad we get to see her again on DAYS. This was a great interview!
That 50 minutes flew by way too quickly Mr. Fairman. Thank you so very very much for this touching, funny, informative and well crafted interview with Ms. Dano. It was so wonderful to hear about her joy filled years on AW...and that she remains close with so many of her beloved former cast and crew mates after nearly 22 years since June 25th of 1999. Talk show hostess, emmy winning actress, author, fashion maven or rocking in a Coldplay video - Ms. Dano has done it all and done it with style and grace. That crew member from DOOL was correct...they are very lucky to have her grace their Burbank stages. And we are lucky to catch ANY performance in which she appears. What a great time you have provided for us during the worst of times in memory. It is very much appreciated.

Being from Brooklyn, it was so much fun to stand outside the NBC studios on Avenue M and wait for the actors from Another World to come out!!
Does that building still stand Randi Natkowitz or has it...like so many old studios, been torn down? Pity if it has...that is sacred ground for so many
@@joebarzo9935 unfortunately it has been torn down. I believe they built a school there now. Very sad.
@@randinatkowitz2487 Thank you for your prompt reply...and yes it is very sad....35 years of AW, Cosby Show at its height, and another decade of ATWT plus years of early films. I have been told that studio once held a swimming pool for Esther Williams' productions. I hope those students realize what entertainment history once stood on the very spot where their school now resides...but I sincerely doubt it. And I sincerely doubt they would care much...if they did. Thanks again...

Linda Dano is a fabulous actress. Love her. So happy she's back on daytime for a visit. I adore Louise Sorel as Vivian but if Louise ever decided to retire I'd welcome Linda Dano permanently in a heartbeat. She's a good Vivian.

I'm so glad you touched on her role as Cynthia on As The World Turns. I remember that storyline, I was a huge fan of the show. The actor's name she can't remember was Henderson Forsythe who played Dr. David Stewart. I thought it was an interesting storyline, a younger woman coming into break up such a veteran couple like Ellen and David.

25:00 there never was and never will be anything like Another World again:( I am still a little bitter about that cancellation. It was my favorite show ever.
Right there with you. Bitter is definitely the right word. A lot of shows got cancelled, but that one still hurts decades later.

agreed...I can still see Carl and Rachel climbing hand in hand up the stairs for that momentous last scene as Bette Midler sang In This Life. And I remember the sobs of all of us watching that day!

My good friend John Sullivan (who died of AIDS in 1989) loved Another World so much he named his cute little dog........Felicia Galant. We loved her so much on Another World.

Linda acted in one of my favorite movies of all time called When The Vows Break a Life Time original movie that was made in 1995. Patty Duke acted in the movie also. They both played best friends in the movie. They both had amazing chemistry working in When The Vows Break which is also called Courting Justice.

Hi Michael, hi Linda, hoping you are well, great interview, listening in. I’ve been a fan for many years watching another world and Felicia for many decades, was so disappointed when the show was canceled and 99, however the other show that I watch basically state of our lives, unfortunately for more than 56 years, starting to watch the show when I was 10 years old with my grandmother and mom are no longer with us. Linda love you, I also love Marie Louise Cheryl as well, but you’re doing a great job as being Vivian, what are you doing extensive stay, or is this just a brief stats? Also I watched you on QVC, love the fact that used to sell accessories like scarves and hats. Nice to know you’re doing well, and thank you for sharing your life with us. Parentheses please excuse Siri I dictate with Siri voice cause of blindness if it’s a disability, she never gets it right but hopefully you’ll understand the bulk of this message), great to see you again, blessings to you and your family days of our lives and another world for staples in our household, wonderful memories, wonderful times

Miss Linda Dino you are amazing talent you are defined on stage of talent! When I was a teenager I watched another world with my grandma she was amazed by the program! I saw Felicia and I was totally entrance by your character! I knew that I wanted to be an actress because of your betrayal of your role you are glowing candle up talent in the dark world of performers may your light always be bright and brilliant! I did local plays in Canada! But I owe my desire to your living performance of Felicia! Thank you for your brilliant performance of Felicia but now on days of our lives although I don't agree with the way you your character is portrayed as Vivian! I feel that you have much more talent and that the writers and producer are not seeing you for the brilliant actress you are Vivian is a beautiful character that you could do so much with but you're limited in what the producers and the writers give you to work with but you bring a new flavor of charm to Vivian's personality! I'm always left with a smile on my face after your scenes!

Before playing Rae Cummings on OLTL, Linda Dano had played a minor character on the show in the late 70s, early 80s. I forget the name of the character.

Agree Linda. People say life has no meaning without a man in it. IT is awful. You had the love of your life chances are no one would ever measure up to that and it would make you more miserable. nothing worse than being with the wrong man. If it should happen again it will and run with it but stay content as you are. Life can have meaning still.

I LOVE LINDA DANO.... Always have - always will... When they announced that she was stepping into the role of Vivian Alamain, I was beyond excited because - if there ever was a character perfect for Linda to step into - it is Vivian! Why?! Because Vivian Alamain is THE closest thing to Felicia Gallant! Wild - Hilarious - Fashionable - Over the Top - Glamorous - Sneaky - and the list goes on and on .... That being said, I don't want to see Linda playing Felicia playing Vivian... BUT.... I did expect to see that same sort of character.... Instead, Linda came out quiet, demure, unsure and the complete opposite of Vivian!!! LINDA! SNAP OUT OF IT!!! Vivian is a character made for you!!! If Louise Sorrell cannot play the iconic Vivian, the ONLY one who can - IS YOU!!! Now let's see the REAL VIVIAN come thru!!!
Maybe Days can create a different role for her!
Another World was the best. It was horrible seeing AW going off the air. I cried all day on the last day plus leading up to it. I was so irritated when Passions was replaced by it. How they could take this beloved show off the air for this.
I go back to you as Cynthia Haines on ATWT. I hope you have a lot of success. My question is are you going to play Vivian as the flamboyant European aristocrat or go in a new direction.
She needs to play Carrie-Ann Moss' mother in something, anything.
