19 century so many spectacular artists that’s captured realism, history, emotion color you name it . They used history and the new to excellent like no one ever before. So many names that would be overwhelming but shiskan, scorolla, Sargent, Zorn, so many artists it’s astounding singer gets all the credit. Still love vellaqeze, and carisuro , Rembrandt, these guys had nothing yet changed the world. Hard question!
I just found you and I just love and appreciate your video tutorials I have seen many different artists and skip them before they are over but I come back to you and when I see it’s you through a sedch for something I’m interested in I get excited when I recognize you and I always click on because I know I will learn something that I actually want to learn
Beautiful..breaking down the painting into smaller less risky steps, the toning, the study and then the layers drawing stage, underpainting, dead colour, 1st and second painting....i like that "chi·a·ro·scu·ro" approach as Caravaggio is one my favourite artists....
Favourite Artists: For the Baroque era I find it impossible to choose between Rembrandt and Velazquez. I love their work equally, closely followed by Vermeer, Anthony van Dyck and Caravaggio. For many of the periods that followed I admire many of of the artists, but I don’t necessarily love their work. Goya is interesting. Recently I have found myself more drawn towards Constable than Turner. Perhaps it is his honesty. Impressionism is the era when I find my love of painting returning. Monet of course, and Manet who wasn’t quite an impressionist. Of the Post-Impressionists Cezanne in a way that I can’t really explain seems to speak to me. I love Modernism, but because of it’s nature and trajectory I”m not sure we can ever return there. I love the work of many of the Modernists, but for me Picasso is the giant of the first part of the twentieth century. Post-Modernism, which for me begins with Warhol doesn’t interest me in any way. The exception to this is Gerhard Richter whose work in all its styles, just like Cezanne seems to speak to me.
There are many criterias that I judge on who's my favourite Painter. Andreas Møller just got that young Maria Theresia painting that I find the epitome of beauty, Leonardo that got that epitome science of painting, Caravaggio that got that rich, dramatic and impactful sceneries, both Monet and Manet with how I relate to them with the uprising modernity, man there's so much. But without a doubt, my favourite era of painting was the early and late Baroque. Followed by the High Renaissance
Dude you have inspired me to try oil painting.I am scared of the mediums and the fat over lean rule.. I'm a bit scared I am going to make a gooey painting that won't dry. Maxfield Parrish - I love his layers and layers of glazing and his brilliant use of color.
That's impossible because I have so many favorites ! ;) But you're one of my favorite contemporary artists...Cesar Santos and Morgan Weistling hava also heavy influences as well! Thanks alot for teaching this though , its very helpful...
Very ambitious Yupari great idea....dont tape your pallet to the painting lol.mabey use another stand or clip it on. Wonderful idea glad to see you go big and comprehensive
I like Caravaggio, too, and Vermeer, but after watching Tim’s Vermeer, I’m a little conflicted. Have you ever talked about the easels you use? I’m preparing to buy one, but don’t know what to look for.
Jennie Latta Mark Carder has an excellent you tube channel with a video on building an inexpensive and simple easel. He also sells a superb easel but it is quite expensive. I made a variation on his design and love it! If you paint in acrylics or oils you may enjoy an easel that can be set vertically without tilt. Of course watercolor needs to go horizontal. Good luck with your search for the perfect easel.
Hi Jennie, a custom made easel is worth the money, made for your height & the usual size of canvas you use. I made sure mine could be used both for sitting and standing up. Also, the treatment of the wood so the cleaning gets easier matters as well.
I made a public playlist of all of the "Navigator" painting videos, in order, for those who (like I was) are chasing each one. Should be easy to find. Just search "Yupari paints large- Navigator." Cheers.
Hey man, cool channel, cool artwork. For this painting coming up can you use impasto paint? Maybe not for the face and hands so much, but some areas of the picture could be really impasto and really bold. Like a Rembrandt or a Sargent painting, but with even more thick paint. Like Bob Ross said, "Let's get crazy".
Why would you tone the white with oil, and why would you use such a small brush to do it. Acrylic tone and rough under painting (and a larger brush) will have you painting for real (in oil) in a fraction of the time.
Hi, you have said to ask questions that you'll respond, I've asked two or three times the why you use two whites: Titanium & Zink, no respond yet. Please answer ... Thank you.
Please, don’t forget that with odorless solvents, you don’t realize how badly a room fills up with toxic fumes and particules from scrubbing a canvas…. And please avoid drinking anything in a room where you paint!
Tom, when toning the canvas, using thinner, having a smaller brush, a filbert is usually of choice...and scrubbing ...why...the paint gets into the weave of the canvas, a bigger brush the paint doesn't get into the weave as needed. Bigger brush is good for blending...or coverage after an initial layer is down.
No no no, no boring!!!! Fascinating!!

While I love the old masters, the 18th century was kind of a golden age for portraiture. The royal portrait gallery in London is a real treat.
After I started buying Art Supplies, I learned alot about being Baroque
So, you found yourself running out of Monet?
Can’t wait to see the finished painting!

I tone my canvas with my hands. This way you get the greatest textures ever. I guess the old masters did a lot with there hands too
That's impossible because I have so many favorites ! ;) But you're one of my favorite contemporary artists...Cesar Santos and Morgan Weistling hava also heavy influences as well! Thanks alot for teaching this though , its very helpful...

I don’t have a favourite time zone to paint. If we are talking about the Early masters of painting. My choice of painters is Leonardo Da Vinci
Curious--why not use a rag? Impressionism/Cubism. William Turner, pre-impressionist.

Can't you get one inch brush ?
I like Caravaggio, too, and Vermeer, but after watching Tim’s Vermeer, I’m a little conflicted.

Nice job, Sir
Painful watching him filling that canvas with such small brush but the result alone is a nice artwork
i painted oil on my canvas and forgot to tone it. It is a small area but I am not sure if I can tone it still and the canvas is really large! Help!
I’m also a big fan of Caravaggio.
Very helpful
Key-are-es-curo is the pronunciation. Caravaggio understood that light lives and dances a war of love and hate with the darkness.
Romantic period and JMW Turner
Nice job. Thank you.
Why do you use a brushes for the entire Canlis
I made a public playlist of all of the "Navigator" painting videos, in order, for those who (like I was) are chasing each one. Should be easy to find. Just search "Yupari paints large- Navigator." Cheers.

Like Bob Ross said, "Let's get crazy".
OK, that is tedious. There's a lot of big, cheap brushes in the hardware store or I'll just use a small rag.
Expressionism and Van Gogh, Gauguin and Munch
It begs the question... why don't you just apply the ground paint to the big canvas with a rag?.... saves you heaps of time..:P
Скажите пожалуйста а что это за жидкость густая светлая,-СПАСИБО,,,
favorite artist today sorolla. time period --preraphaelites. Why don't you use a bigger brush for toning?

It was just fun to do :) yes, there are easier ways to tone :)

1920's Pablo and Hemingway. They are parents of art.
impressionist/post impressionist, today it is matisse
Hi, you have said to ask questions that you'll respond, I've asked two or three times the why you use two whites: Titanium & Zink, no respond yet. Please answer ... Thank you.
Zinc white is transparent, good for glazing...and mixing when you don't want opacity. Titanium is opaque.
Mabey add his glasses on the table i.e the philosophers table with that stuff
Coffee
Please, don’t forget that with odorless solvents, you don’t realize how badly a room fills up with toxic fumes and particules from scrubbing a canvas….
And please avoid drinking anything in a room where you paint!
The romanticism; John Constable
if you use a bigger brush you can have this done in five minutes not an hour

dont use liquin for toning: liquin is one of the fattest mediums available. use turpentine for a "faster drying time"
How to make something simple hard :/
Chiaroscuro is pronounced - kyaroskuro
