Ruskin Bond was born in Kasauli in 1934 and grew up in Jamnagar,Dehradun,New Delhi and Shimla.He wrote his first novel,TheRoomOnTheRoof, at the age of seventeen. He has written more than 500 short stories,essays and novellas and over forty books for children.He has received the Sahitya Akademi Award For English writing in India in 1993,The Padma Shri in 1999, and the Dehli Goverment's Lifetime Achievment Award in 2012, He was also awarded the Sahitya Akadmei's Bal Sahitya Puruskar for the contribution for children's literature in 2013 and was hounoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He lives in Mussoorie, India.
