    Thanks for posting. I didn't realise that so much of 'Casino,' took so much from this film, & it's original quotes.
    It's good to see a documentary, where your not constantly being told what your watching, & what you will soon be watching. "Coming up next" etc, repeated over, & over.
    (Bells, whistles, sign posting, & go faster stripes, are not required).
    Thanks again.

    Near the end now of this doc and all I can say is, what happens in Vegas really does stay in Vegas, that is until the rats come out 😁 Wow, Vegas, what a strange story! It is a wonder that it still survives! But then again, as long as it produces money; NEXT!

    Moved to LV back at the beginning of 86 when I was 27 yrs old, 6 months later is when the Spilotro brothers were murdered putting the final nail into the mobs activities in the casino's they may have stilled controlled at the time.. This documentary is a great time capsule at a city I came to love as a young guy. Remember Ned Day here who passed away back in 87 at only 42 yrs old, he was great journalist. Then the corporate gangsters came in and everyone got greedy and the population boomed. Lived there for about 28 yrs, moved to AZ in 2014, LV wasn't quite the same place at the end of my stay as it was at the beginning, but I was in my mid 50's by then too and haven't beeb back since and now covid...Good Luck Las Vegas.....some times I miss you.

      @@mattsweeny3957 The Ant had definitely worn out his welcome and usefulness and didn't have many friends left at that point. Frank Culotta on the other hand wound up living a full life and was an advisor on the movie and TV shows, he was actually one of the hitmen in the scene with the actor Alan King that was based loosely off of the mob hit of Allen Dorfman a Teamsters Union "consultant". So the "rat" label didn't effect him much and he didn't live in fear for his life. But the mob, whether Chicago or NY isn't what it used to be and he knew that.

Because irish and Italians were discriminated against couldn't get jobs to feed there family's so what did they do? They took jobs other races feared jobs such as law enforcement, and firefighting when the wars came the Irish and the Italian's answered that call they were amongst the highest casualty's, so say and believe what you want, but actions are always louder than words.

    Welcome to the mob doc-drinking game!
    1. Take one sip of beer for every Scorsese movie reference.
    2. Take one shot for every “The government is the real mob” - comment.
    3. Take one sip of beer for every Sopranos reference.
    4. Take one shot for every comment by Americans who are blown away by seeing a “real documentary” and “real journalism”, not knowing that In most other western countries, this is still kinda the norm.
    5. Take one sip of beer for every comparison between the mafia and a current political “clan”, (f.e The Clintons) and another one if there is a counter option in the comment section (f.e The Bushes, The Trumps).
    6. If option 5 takes place, ask for neutral sources/examples to back these claims up. If you are met with anger right away, being called a fake news cuck, you win the game.
    7. Take one shot for every comment making comparisons between fictional characters and real life events relating to the documentary. If you reach 5, you win the game.
    8. If it’s one of those “fast paced pop-docs” like “the real sopranos” or a newer documentary on John Gotti *AGAIN*, then take one sip of beer for every comment pointing it out/bashing the poor quality. If you reach 5, you win the game!
    If you make it all the way through, you also win the game.
    Good luck, ladies and gentlemen. 🙏

Not long after that the orders were sent out to make him disappear forever. Supposedly he was in jail and suffered a heart attack.

    How was Frank Costello "the boss of all mafia bosses in New York" when he was the boss of only ONE of the five crime families that later became known as the Genovese crime family? There was the Genovese family, the Gambino family, the Luccese family, the Columbo family, and the Bonanno family. According to other mafia documentaries I've watched, which I admit are not necessarily the most reliable sources, the commission was formed in order to avoid having anyone be the ultimate boss.

    • @robertthomas2601
      @robertthomas2601 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was over 30 years ago. Not as much was known then. Costello was influential and was chairman of the Commission. He was referred to as the prime minister. Going with the information they had it was easy for the press to all him the boss of bosses.

    • @JerzredCBS
      @JerzredCBS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately there have been many different documentaries that overuse that term. There hasnt officially been a boss of bosses since Sal Maranzano, Luciano abolished the position after his death. Ive seen a few docs that referred to Gotti as boss of bosses too. So its just these narrators over-using a term they dont understand

    • @killerfrank8974
      @killerfrank8974 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Officially the position of "Boss of Bosses" was done away with once the commission was formed. So you are correct there. However, one could argue that unofficially the term still applied when talking about who was the most powerful member of the commission. For example one could say that Carlo Gambino held that title in all but name due to the power he wielded. Same goes for Vincent Gigante, another powerful boss. So even though there was a commission, whoever had the most power on it really was the boss of the whole thing if you think of it that way.

    • @histguy101
      @histguy101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Costello was the chairman. The chairman was the boss of bosses. It just meant he was the leading guy of the commission.

      @byrongammonbyrongammon9937 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Right. There were no issues with public safety when the mob was dominant (sarcasm). Please STFU. The neighborhoods in which the mafios lived might have been safe. But certainly not the neighborhoods that they ran the drugs through. Carlo Gambino trafficked in heroin. Paul Castellano trafficked in heroin. John Gotti trafficked in heroin. Drug dealing engenders violence. So....again....please STFU.
