Season 1 Episode 13: By December 1985, John Gotti (aka the Teflon Don) had assumed his place as the new Don of the Gambino crime family in New York with the assassination of his boss, Paul Castellano. When the FBI convinced Gotti's underboss, Salvatore Gravano, to testify against him, the jury came back with their verdict: guilty on all counts.

You’d think the Ravenite would have security on staff overnight or anytime it was unoccupied. That’s crazy. So the FBI just walks in with keys? How were they copied? At the Ravenite there were no alarms on when they’d leave at night? Almost all businesses have alarm systems. Cafes, restaurants, pizzerias. It’s bizarre.

Then what is stopping you from taking yourself and your family to a different country ? Why look over your shoulder when you can get a clean slate ? Are they really gonna find you in dubai, London, Frankfurt? As a mafia enthusiast from the Uk , I’ve always wondered but I guess I’m not a New Yorker to understand the full scope

      Another factor to consider:
All the old school OG wiseguys lived by a Code of Honor in the beginning and for a very long time in this kind of lifestyle...for decades before this time period.
One Rule of such a Code meant-
that once the deed was done and over, you *NEVER* spoke aloud of it *ever* again...to *anyone* .
Which is exactly *WHY* the old school OGs and Shot Callers were untouchable and never got pinned with any serious charges.
And which was also the very reason that even so much as considering something like running out and trying to scurry away like vermin would never even occur to a guy like that.
Because it would be "dishonorable", "unmanly to do" and "bring shame" to what was left of their entire family.
      Not to mention the fact-
That with the wide range of worldwide contacts that the mafia had/has...
that anyone that ran off *WOULD* eventually be tracked down and found..
no matter where they managed to skip off to in the world.
If they even got lucky enough to get out of the city area alive to begin with.
Which would mean any punishment or retaliation against them would then become SO much worse....
for both them *AND* their wives/kids.
The vast majority of ppl nowadays live in a VERY sheltered af insulated little bubble......
having always been wrapped up in their own self-centered selfish af shit and helicoptered over for their entire lives with someone *else* always there to provide their every need/want *FOR* them...
and without ever having a single day in their puny lives of any actual *REAL* life & death "struggle",
much less have ever really missed any meals long enough to ever know TRUE hunger.
FFS-most ppl nowadays have never even been taught basic flippin coping skills or any critical thinking skills enough to even think and rationalize for themselves...
without needing to have someone else do that *FOR* them, too..
and literally *TELL* them what they should be thinking about everything going on the world around them, instead of them actually first putting in *any* effort whatsoever to find out and learn things *themselves* in order to be able to logically figure out what they should be thinking *FOR* *themselves* .
(No Bullshit- It has now become so much a monkey-see monkey-do world...
where alllllllllll the little braindead lemmings just keep following and repeating each other without even so much as a single moment of thought having actually been put in to it beforehand before ppl just start regurgitating whatever total horseshit some other idiotic fool pulled outta their own ass and completely just made up as "facts"!).
      Therefore-
Most ppl nowadays have absolutely *NO* concept or idea of what that actually really means anymore...
for someone to actually *have* *INTEGRITY* , *HONOR* and *LOYALTY* ....
and to literally live their entire life by that Code, like the majority of people *use to do* in the past.
Back not so very long ago when if a person gave their Word or promise about something or made an Oath....
they actually *KEPT* it or were shunned and shamed by the rest of "polite society" as being DISHONORABLE/THEIVING AF
      for *NOT* doing so.
Or to live a lifestyle that meant knowing that any major fuckup that *you* made...
could also mean certain death for your closest loved ones, too!
Including the newer generation of up and coming wiseguys that were later born in to that lifestyle....
and were the sole cause of bringing it all down later on,
like had never happened before in their history of organized crime.
BECAUSE they were born in to it....
they were much more lazy, spoiled, flashy narcissistic egomaniacs
      and complacent...
thinking they were untouchable and could do literally anything they wanted to just bc of what their last name was or who they were related/close to that kept them protected...
long before they even really worked their way up the ranks or *EARNED* that status of being/acting like that
      of being an "untouchable made-man".
(Meaning that *nobody* could ever harm or kill them without the express permission of the head Don of the entire organization OK'ing that hit.
If someone ever *did* harm them without going through the proper procedure of the hierarchy and "showing respect" to ask..and GET.. permission first-
then an immediate hit was put out against *THAT* person, instead..
and their entire immediate family members, too.
Car bombs were a favorite preferred method, or a staged break in/robbery/mugging gone wrong..or just a simple machine gun slaughter at a family gathering.
Depending on the viciousness of whom, exactly, the perpetrator had pissed off at the Head of the Family.
Which is exactly what kept that fear of reprisals and Law & Order of the Organization in place for *everyone* in every major Family crew
      for many decades.
Until ppl like John Gotti and all the other mouthy idiotic spoiled af sons and nephews just like him
      that surrounded him came along...
and just couldn't keep their massive narcissistic af egos and mouthy af bragging and flashiness under check.
Which inevitably lead to them bringing the entire thing down around their own ears.... *THEMSELVES* !
