I loved slamming the pieces down to the beat. So satisfying.

Hello, Peter! Thank you for making this. TH-cam decided to place this on my front page today, and I'm glad they did. Somehow, the algorithm must have known I played Tetris Max in the mid-90s. I think I first heard this song in 1995, when I touched a PowerPC Mac for the first time, but memory is hazy. It could have been earlier. I definitely remember opening it up in ResEdit and being blown away seeing how the song up into individual parts so the game could loop them. It was the first time I encountered something like that.
Anyway, it's really great hearing this song so many years later, and this is a fantastic version. Thanks for sharing, and stay well.

Howdy! Thanks for the awesome comment! Yup, you could even add your own music using ResEdit. It was pretty interesting how Steve Chamberlin (the programmer) set that up. You can read about how he did it here: bigmessowires.com/2015/12/11/the-story-of-tetris-max/

My cousin had a Mac and Tetris Max was on there. This song came on and I immediately loved it and would sometimes just sit there and let the pieces fall without positioning them, just so I could listen to this song. Today this song came in my head and I went on YT to listen to it again. THEN I saw you were on here and had remade it. I subbed, then clicked on the video and have been listening to it nonstop. Mr. Wagner, thank you for making one of my fav songs. The nostalgia is so so good.

What a gem this is, a truely marvellous piece of art. Peter, this track basically summons all memories of my childhood (80s ... those were the golden days) at once, it really touches my soul and I'm not gonna lie, it doesn't come without some sense of saddening that those times are now lost. Guess lookin' out the back door always has some emotional downsides. Anyway, thank you Peter for this, the world is in dire need of more like it.

Life, family, and work have kept me extremely busy, to the point where I'm just fried when I have free time. To do an album correctly with proper mixing and mastering also requires funds that I'm just not able to part with right now. I'm hoping that with the winter weather approaching my home schedule will free up a bit, and maybe I'll just upload songs (mixed to the best of my abilities) to Soundcloud or something. I first heard T-Maxx in all its compressed glory back when I was 14 and I discovered BrickLayer on one of those 90s shareware CDs. I was so impressed that I went through the trouble of stitching all the wav files together into the full track and burning it onto a CD. Ever since finding the full version on youtube, it's been a staple on my "concentration" playlists and has contributed to hundreds of hours of productivity, so I really have to thank you for being a part of my childhood and formative years in this small way! It's still one of the most obscure "favorite" mp3s I have, and I'm really happy it's gotten a remake all these years later.
I also love introducing people to my obscure favorites, and various versions of T-Maxx have gotten parts in music mods and hobby game projects I share with friends, in the hopes that I can bring some more people to appreciate it as much as I have.

Hah! I also discovered Bricklayer from a shareware CD, was a few years younger than you though, loved to play the game and listen to its music. I never bothered to stitch the files, but I fondly remember that I discovered that the music was indeed as pieces in several wav files, which I considered uniquely unusual way. Didn't know much about software technicals, but just liked to tinker and do very rudimentary intuitive reverse engineering by looking what kind of files every game and program contains. Usually the games had their music either as a mid file containing entire song in one file, or as some file type I couldn't recognize nor play with any generic software.

though i was even born after this (particular version) of tetris, and have touched neither macintosh nor windows 3.1, while looking for all kinds of old tetris games created by people, this song hit me hard!
to name some of the other, tetris c64 by Wally Beben also a great one.
but i program tetris! the rotation system (where and how the pieces *exactly* spawn, and their colors) is available at farter.cn/tetr.js in settings -> rotation system: "Max".

Thanks so much! I'll check out the c64 version. And I played your Tetris game, very nice!!!

Would you happen to have a copy of T-Maxx in its original uncompressed form? I'd be happy to toss a couple of dollars towards a FLAC download so I can have it in all of its early 90s glory.

Well, it's not uncompressed, but there's a link at the end of the description where you can download the MP3. The original source files are, unfortunately, long gone.

1:16 is the part that Coldplay nicked for "Paradise"

I would certainly be flattered if they did! (but I'm sure it's coincidence)
