Schecter Hellraiser - C1 FR White Thoughts/Review!

  • EDIT May 5, 2020: Regarding my opinion at 5:30 - I have since changed my view on this. I understand the necessity for cutting mids and tuning guitars lower to obtain a tone/key that the composer desires. It's all preference and creativity doesn't stop anywhere.
    I got a new guitar!!!
    ...obviously.
    A couple of things to note:
    A) I didn't do a script or anything for this. So I'm sorry if things seem scattered or strangely worded. I just kind of turned the camera on and rambled :)
    B) I didn't include any drums or anything during the playing portion because I wanted you to hear the full guitar without anything clouding it.
    C) Also, the playing was just on a whim. No idea what songs I was going to play, I just kind of hit Record and played whatever came to mind! (Pretty obvious, there are quite a few mistakes in the songs I play. But that's ok!)
    D) I'm playing through my Line6 UX2 using PODFarm. So it won't sound quite idealistic to the ear. But I think, for the most part, you can hear what it sounds like and get a grasp on what it can do. (Especially where the single coil takes over).
    All in all, I love this guitar and just wanted to share my thoughts on it :) It's not a paid advertisement or anything, just wanted to try a different type of video!

    I have the dark cherry C7. I think I need one in every color. I think I just need to own every Schecter out there though. I used to play Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, and Esp. I haven't really since I picked up my Schecter S-1 from some random pawn shop on the road for 100 bucks. These guitars just feel right to me.

      I can't imagine paying a 'tech' (a guy who plays guitar, aka me) to change string gauges because I don't want to turn a screwdriver. All it is is more string tension, so must increase spring tension - drive in the claw in a little bit with every new string that's a bigger gauge. Just never use a FR Special. FR 1000/1500/Original or gtfo. And tune when it's in an upright position. If you tune on its back, it'll go flat when you sit it upright to play.

    • @dopamine-bandit
      @dopamine-bandit 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah it's really not hard at all to change your bridge tension, I learned how to do it myself on my Stratocaster when I was first starting out, just a few turns with a screwdriver and boom

    I just picked one up at a pawn shop today, the black cherry one. An '08, looked brand new, $460. I thought it was too much of an opportunity to pass up, even having zero knowledge of the Schecter brand. Been trying to gain some insight by looking up vids. Thank you for such a detailed video.

    When it comes to making sure your tone isn’t muddy when tuning down, the best thing to do is look for a new set of pickups so you can play in lower tunings. I have the Seymour Duncan Nazgül and Sentient set for my seven string Jackson and notes ring out so clearly for me.

    • @wingsoficarus1139
      @wingsoficarus1139 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the EMG 57/66 which is very underrated compared to the 80 counterparts. Tbh I absolutely love these as they are much brighter and produce more of a contrast between the strings on my 8 string.

    • @Stretchwreckedem469
      @Stretchwreckedem469 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wingsoficarus1139 it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted this, sold the guitar I had the Nazgül and Sentient pickups in it a few years back and I’m starting to regret it. 😂😂😭 over the years I’ve had the EMG 57/66 set on my radar to try it out, but never got around to it. I’ve also been eyeing a set of DiMarzio D Activators for my Jackson King V, or at least a set of Fishman Fluence Classics with the default voicing for both pickups set to voice 2. I heard a comparison for the Classic set compared to a set of Seymour Duncan JB/59 and the bridge pickup actually sounded tighter than the JB. I’ve definitely gotta keep my eye out for both the Fluence Classics and the 57/66 and maybe compare them and see which set I prefer. 🤔

      @@Stretchwreckedem469 yeah, honestly for me, the only reason why I settled with the EMGs was the black chrome variant cus it just looked so good.

      They don't make the white anymore. I'm so sick of quilt maple but all the guitars I like have quilt or burl. It's cheap veneer and it's played out and is tacky imo.

    PITCHFORK .....Its for guitar,, but I use it to get a fat deep beautful bass tone, I use to on my Vocals & Ive even ran my E drums thru it to screw with the tones of them. My favorite is vocals, I easily sound like the big bad Metal guys, but without it I sound like a southern dork. Pitchfork is my favorite pedal on the planet.

    I don't know if you're going to see this, but THANK YOU!
    I bought the Hellraiser C-1 FR in purple (I'm now looking at the white with big eyes!) and came across your video in my phase of "finding videos to hear how cool my next guitar is about to be." I tend to play Slipknot mostly, but lately I've been really loving A7x and, due to old love, I play BFMV a bit. I had completely forgotten about Floyd Rose tuning being an operation of its own. That said, your video reminded me of that bit on the Floyd and gave me the solution, and showed me playing the music I WANT TO PLAY that this pedal sounds great with my next guitar.
    I'm sure you didn't intend to have an audience that fit this video like a glove, but it's me, and I'm super grateful.

    Thanks for sharing a great vid! Good choice on the git!! I have several, identical, two white ones, two black cherry, adn one white V, all S. Korean FR's. I picked them all up used, which is a bit nerve racking, but they all were ok. They are great value and great players, for any style. I would suggest you learn how to tech your own gits. The Floyds are such a pain! But, once you understand, its not as bad as you think. I can restring a broken string my tele on stage, but my first setup moving to 11's and adding a 4th spring with one of these went on a week before I took it to a lutheir, and watched him adn had him show me. Same with the second time. its always a hassle, even for those guys, but once you get the screws, truss rod, springs, etc its good to know anyways, since its your git, and by failing setting up, you learn more! Anyways, just some unsolicited advice. Enjoy your beautiful git!

    Nice. I'm more hard rock than metal...but I've been eyeing off Schechters lately. The thru-neck, the snake head headstock for straight string pull thru (for better tuning stability) ala PRS...
    And then everything else : the FR...the EMG's...would prefer just one tone, not two...it gets too crowded there for something I barely ever use. In fact, I would actually prefer no tone knobs at all, EVH style.
    95% of my tone knob use is just double checking that they are still wide open, for maximum CRUNCH! and Crisp Attack!! Lolz!
    And then : mahogany body (Yeah! 🤙)... the carved top.... I love the white too, with the abalone (pronounced: a-bell-own-ee) binding. I think you chose right to go white over purple burst. The purple might be dazzling, but 1) Dazzling is not necessarily better, and 2) If you've always wanted white...get white! You wanna go "FUCK-YEAH!🤘😡" ever time you glance over at your wooden-woman, not ""Eh! 🤷‍♂️".
    Good video Homie!
