    ~TL Notes~
Pretty sure this is my first long solo Kanade clip. I like to split time between all of ReGLOSS and my Kanade time is usually spent on her karaoke.
Less research to do as far as cultural references and idioms go compared to Raden. However, I know as much as the next person about business, so I had to look up information on sole proprietorship, independent contractors vs agents, self-employment, incorporation, etc. I don't know the specifics of their contracts or how different that is compared to American and other countries' businesses, so I kept it to a general "self-employed" instead of using the other terms.

Tbh, even if you do get a degree, if you go multiple years of not applying what you learned there, you would forget a huge chunk of it anyway. Most companies would probably care more about your actual job experience and less than the degree itself after multiple years from graduating. Still, if she's already a good way into her degree, like maybe if she's more than half way through, there's a strong case of just finishing it.

She's experiencing the reality of being self-employed as a foreigner in Japan. COVER could technically help and provide all these official information, but because the talents are considered "contractors" and not "employees", this is out of their hands (intentional risk hedging in COVER i suppose).
If they were more like the GeeXPlus talents, they would be directly hired under GeeXPlus and be directly employed by a Japanese company, which makes it much easier for them to do administrative stuff in Japan, but unfortunately that is not the case for them.
I hope the other talents help her out, or that she gets the courage to ask around the EN talents (and Zeta). I'm sure they've experienced this themselves, given that so many of them are currently working as self-employed foreigners in Japan. Administrative bullshit is bad everywhere, but it's ESPECIALLY horrendous in Japan.

  • @kadefringe

    IRL facts below:
Kanade IRL is 20 yo(born '04) native Korean, period. And she didn't do a good job hiding it, let alone not straight-up revealing it.
What she did do a good job of hiding is her past life, but you can find that easily enough. She was an utaite from several years ago, at least from her middle school age. She even has TH-cam coverage when she won first place in Japanese song contest. In her high school period, she finally went into Vtubing career, which lasted only 2 months because her agency had gone bankrupt. Even had her original song composed by MikitoP.
After her unfortunate debut and graduation, she seems to have decided to go to college to pursue more normal career while having auditions of Hololive, which is fairly common path for indie creators. Then the blessing of YAGOO came in, and after a year of pre-debut period we have Otonose Kanade we all know and love.
She seemed to have had fairly good grades at school, according to her past utaite Twitter posts. That should be why she is more reluctant than others to give up college course. She had born in pretty strict family(you know, stereotype "Asian"), which would also have impacted her incline towards the idea of "normal" career. And she is literally having her first job which is virtual talent, not IRL singer or vocalist, even though her agency is one and only Hololive. The market is still too small and the future of the vtubing industry is not so clear. No way she is confident about her future. Especially for a 20-year-old girl.

    • @vieronna
      @vieronna 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Absolutely:
I didn't know large bits of this, but if she's had experience with a failed agency then that's going to cause doubts no matter how strong Cover is. Combine that with how the pandemic boom is over, and later generations like ReGLOSS are already experiencing slower growth, these are good questions to consider.
However, this is her shot. If she wants to do something like this, she knows this is it - it doesn't get better than Cover and Hololive. Cover is still steadily growing. Her seniors are (rightfully) cautious, but they also never thought Hololive would survive more than a year at the start - no one knows how things will turn out. And realistically, the Holo girls are a lot closer to FIRE than most of us.
Ideally, she'd get to finish her degree slowly while active like Haachama did... but her university being in Korea is a major wrench in the works. She'd either have to transfer, study remotely, or go back. All of which have major question marks and would heavily impact her streaming.

Even as a software engineer I have some of these thoughts about future prospects... I'm well past my prime and still moving on my own FIRE path but it's rational to think about your industry.
It's not unreasonable to think about VTubing; lots of the non-Cover agencies are starting to show obvious signs of struggle or close outright, which isn't _great_ in boosting long term confidence.
Then there's going back to college, and that's a coin toss tbh, depending on what she wants to do.
(I've heard of the horror stories of getting even a debit card for your own money in Japan and it's kinda baffling, the States would never)

It's a hard choice to make, but it's probably best to stay in Hololive. It's not the greatest job in terms of security, what with being a content creator and potentially saying the wrong thing and graduating, but it sure beats any alternatives in the short term.
I do think it's odd that Hololive members aren't employees of Cover though. I'm not familiar with how idol agencies work, so maybe this is normal? It just seems a bit unfair since they own the channels and character IPs. Obviously they have obligations of various kinds to the talents, but the bank thing Kanade mentions is just one of the many things you lose out on if you're not traditionally employed.
Interesting to think about, at least. Thank you for the translation! I'd love to see more Kanade clips, but all the ReGLOSS content you translate is super appreciated too.

They are more like contractual workers.
If we follow the Hololive System we know that Hololive gives them the freedom to pursue their PL careers as long as it doesn't involve another Vtubing. They do this in order for the talent to sustain themselves as for newbies covers salary is not enough.
This is a good thing because being able to pursue your own career outside of Hololive means that if for some reason Hololive or Vtubing goes under they have can get back on their feet right away.

about V-tubers not being employees of their agencies, this is a modern clever(cunning) most popular way of business. This way agency owes almost nothing to their (not-)employee. It goes not only for V-Tubing. It's a norm for developed countries nowadays, it's like a gray zone or a loop hole in the law. It doesn't sound that fair or reasonable, but it's not prohibited

Kanade talking about other member's financial situation and her contract with Cover is borderline dangerous (NDA) and I feel she got bonked for this.
And iff Kanade's looking into FIRE, then going back to (physical) college is the wrong decision. Stay in Hololive. Look at Suisei, it took her 3-4 years before everything started going in her favor and became this sensational artist.
Also, when Kanade said even her senpais are worrying about their expenses, it's because they are also spending millions of Yen in projects.

  • @squalleonkeneddyheart4191
    @squalleonkeneddyheart4191 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

The things she is saying here may be interessting this is definitely stuff thats close to breaking NDA ngl lol.
One thing Hololive has over other agencies is that they already began their steps to seperate themselves from the main Vtubing sphere and is closely stepping into the bigger entertainment sphere. This mesns that the Vtubing scene may collapse in the next few years. Hololive as a conpany will stay around.
As for her college aspirations, id say she should do qhat she can while she is in cover. Like save up for her college tuition once she quits hololive and as she says here not everyone can be part of hololive.

I didn't catch anything that'd have that kind of weight to it... If you're talking about the meta, it's been brought up before in other spots so it's not like, that big of a deal... Also there's no specifics about what's in any agreement or anything, it's well known that they're in a contract with Cover...
For her college aspirations it depends on what she wants to do for the rest of her life, and IDK if I ever felt that a student who's just finished high school had the answer and was locked in, y'know, all the time.

    • @honsuaman8743

to my mind, it doesn't get any better than being in Hololive in terms of the future perspectives. She has her niche and makes first hand contact with people like Sui, Azuchi and Hajimya, who have a nerve(guts), talent and experience in other fields and won't just fade away, if V-Tubing comes to an end. I think, she is pretty secure, if sticks to them. Also she can get a lot more with the connections, which she can build working with cover, than if she does a college. If she wants FIRE, it's more possible, if she stays in the field. A college can give mostly only jobs with a stable mediocre income and nothing beyond that
