Without D'ARCY they're just Pumpkins, they're no longer Smashing. 😔
We love, miss, and want to see you back D'ARCY.
Agreed. Smashing Pumpkins without D'arcy is like Nirvana without Krist Novoselic, it just doesn't make sense, it's not the right band.
D'arcy and I can fix that smashing part!
They’d be pumpkins 🎃 🤭
I just hope she’s alright, genuinely
Same
Dw she’s living her best life on her farm
@@grognakthog yh lol with her horses running wild.
@@grognakthog does she have social media??
Dont sound like it. Unfortunately
She was my queen when I was 15 and growing up in the 90s.
Christopher Müller Good choice!
I'd give anything to be a teenager in the 90s you lucky bastard.
@@Appreciation-Community It was amazing!! The Music! Ahhhh!
Another one was Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth. I grew up in the 90s, too.
Sorry I have to stop you there but the only 90s queen I know about is Dolores from cranberries.
She is more of a countess though, no disrespect I have just been on cranberries binge.
It was sad she wasn't able to come back with the rest of the band Corgan and Darcey just have to strong of a personality to mesh anymore I think
Oh man. This video is tugging on my heartstrings so bad. She's the reason why I began playing bass. Such a major influence in my life as a musician and as a person. I will always love her.
She's back!
Are you sure it's only your heart strings?
Me too! She also played 🎻 just like me. Luv ya D'arcy!
I envy you. One of my biggest regrets in life is not learning to play a guitar. But then again, somebody has to listen. Musicians need an audience.
Christopher Reeve's unused wheelchair. 👀
I miss D'Arcy. I hope she's doing OK now; last I heard about her was that she was doing better lately.
I always loved the aesthetic D’arcy brought to the pumpkins. She was mysteriously haunting and attractive.
She is awesome and billy needs reach out. Fix it
@@oregonziggy2391 Billy sucks
Something very Pre-Raphaelite about her, definitely.
Exactly. The vibe of the original members back then was IMMACULATE
Love and miss D'Arcy! What a talented, beautiful, wonderful woman and musician. Beautiful and talented. But yet humble! She was so talented and amazing!!!
Smashing pumpkins is never been the same without her..
She is one of the reason why we like the band.
True!!!
Billy was the brains, Jimmy was the muscle, James was the wildcard, but D'Arcy was the heart. I don't know if this analogy works perfectly, but it's what I think in my head.
@@jwanderson108 Well said and perfect! They all played an important part.
Sad but true. Without D'Arcy, it's not the same.
@@jwanderson108 sorry but thats not correct at all. She even wanted to leave the band on their peak to pursue an acting career. Shes the one who less cared about the band, so she was never the heart of sp. Billy is the heart bc hes the one who most loves the band.
To me The Smashing Pumpkins will always be Billy/D'arcy/James/Jimmy, they created magic together, I know its kinda hard, but leaders gotta do their best to keep original bands together.
I agree those original 4 were what people still remember when you mentioned Smashing Pumpkins. I will say though that Jeff is outstanding and fits in great. He's an outstanding musician and I think even Billy said that he had kinda been like the glue holding things together during some of the lean years. I wish D'arcy would have been able to come back with them on there most recent tour but it just wasn't ment to be. One of the things I heard was that she actually had incredible stage fright and they pushed so hard in the 90's that she just couldn't do it anymore.
Such a great comment.
Well said
ほんとにそうだよね。
Amazing that anyone could stand to be around Billy Corgan for as long as she did.
I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Billy Corgan's sheer creative talent and output. It's ridiculously inspiring.
BUT.....it always always bugged me how much of a prick he could be, especially to D'arcy. The passive aggressive mean stuff. Like yeah Billy, she isn't the musical savant you are, so what? She CAN play, and she brings an energy and vibe to the band that absolutely wouldn't be there without her. Also....maybe you should have given her more opportunity to show off her own talent. Her vocals on Daydream are stunningly beautiful dream pop at it's best.
Anyway....sorry to rant lol. Smashing Pumpkins will always be my favorite band ever. And one aspect of being an eternally devoted fan of that band....is learning to tolerate the petty vindictive interpersonal BS between the members, most all of it stirred up by Billy.
But sometimes I think it could only be that way. I mean, Billy IS a flat out creative genius. I think that's an actual objective fact. And maybe someone who's _that_ good, _that_ talented, _that_ prolific....with an overwhelming work ethic and desire to be the best....maybe such a person isn't going to have the most cuddly demeanor.
It is what it is. And all 4 of the original lineup made that band what it was. I'm just grateful they stuck together for a solid decade at all. When you look back on it, they're such an odd mismatched group of human beings. But somehow, for some reason, they made perfect sense. Just one of those once in a generation bands....
As for D'arcy, at this point I just hope she has a happy life from now on. It's really sad to me how her mental health seems to not be doing that great...just declining over the past 20 years. I just hope she's ok and has good people around her. And I hope she knows how much she's meant to people's lives....
@@avedic I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. He’s a genius, yada yada yada. I’ve been a hardcore Pumpkins fan since the mid-90s. I saw him in November of 2019 in a venue with only a few hundred people. If anyone so much as spoke between songs and before he started another song, he’d have a f*cking tantrum. Someone was talking at the bar and he had a meltdown. Someone hooted as he was about to start playing, and he spent literally 5 minutes talking about how he would just sit there and wait. Because there was a tiny noise. He had a guy removed because he yelled out a request. Everyone shushed the guy and the guy kept saying the request. People started booing and Billy acted like he was an obnoxious kindergarten teacher waiting for it to be dead silent. Everyone bow down to Lord Billy. Lol. What a narcissist and pretentious prick. I have no interest in ever seeing him live again. F*ck paying him anything anymore. I have the albums.
@@avedic I literally read the whole word by word while playing this music on the back I must say you really brought out all there is to say you're a great person I like your viewpoint hope you're doing well with your life too regardless of where we are from we're all humans with a beating heart
@avedic I think a lot of people who are straight genius level at something, and yeah id consider billy being that when it comes to creating music, struggle socially and in relationships. And I think he's a bit of a nutcase (no disrespect) on top of that. And again that's also something you see with other great artists.
He was arguably the biggest egotistical narcissist of that era. Must have been a nightmare being in a band with him in many ways. She's most likely still traumatized by the experience.
I miss those days... music was really good back then...
Me too, music is not the same anymore but be happy that you were around to appreciate the good years and all of great bands of that era.
I really miss those days every time I heard this, it accesses my memory way back when music was still pure and golden. High-school days though.
Me 2. It was the FUCKIN best ERA of music. At least we the SMASHING PUMPKIN nation can still listen 2 thier greatness
1996 was a bad, bad year
Gotta love D'Arcy. She had style.
This is true
I always thought she was sooo beautiful, god I use to be in love with her no kidding lol...
Not talent
@Steve B You made about a comment telling people to get over it. No one before your comment seemed bothered.
@@johnz7786 she dont smile
D'Arcy had style. No one can deny that.
Happy Birthday D'arcy! To say you are cherished and loved by so many goes without saying. To come here and experience what was and what can never be again is an honor and a privilege, even now. All of us wish you would come our from behind that tall and massive fence outside your living room window, leave the farm behind for just a bit of time, and dream with us again. Thanks for all the great music dear child, dear D'arcy.
I'm 70 and just now learned the bass part to Siva. She's my spirit animal.
In 1988 there was an impromptu performance consisting of 2 guys. It was at the cubby bear, corner of Clark and Addison. Their names were James Iha and William Corgan. They were heckled cause they couldn't get in rythm with their drum machine. Little did we know it was the humble beginnings of a legendary band. I will never forget it.
In my honest opinion - by far the coolest member of the Pumpkins. And damn cute to go along with it!
too bad Billy had to play her parts on the albums to get them right
@@vambo13257 Billy is a control freak. She was fine.
The hottest and coolest chick ever to go on a stage. Undervalued for her talent. Important musician in a great group.
"talent" LMAO!
@Quantum Decoherence Shirley is incredibly talented!
so true
Yes and Sean from white zombie
and Auf Der Mar
If you don’t have D'arcy, then you aren’t The Smashing Pumpkins; you are something else.
These smashing pumpkins aren't smashing pumpkins without D'Arcy. Plain and simple. My whole teenage years 😍🥰
She was so cute back in the 90s. And a very respectable bass player.
She is so talented and beautiful. Reading through some of these comments really sums up how I feel. She was mysterious and attractive for sure but her bass grooves really drove a lot of the best songs.
I'm still rooting for her to come back.
Maybe imposible, ive heard shes messed up. But i would really love if she comes back. Thats why im watching this.
Same same!
Would be a good way to start healing thru music, i miss simpler times.
The core band including D’Arcy put out their best music. The four made a foundation that worked
she was truly one of a kind, the pumpkins havent been the same without her
It's a shame she didn't come back for the reunion due to issues, she was missed. I do think that Melissa Auf Der Maur was a fair replacement when she came in though.
No not the same but they've been just fine without her. She barely played bass on the albums anyway as Corgan did most of the bass parts on the albums.
she ain't been the same either LMAO
@@edrader Exactly. They're not only fine without her but better.
ed rader aw lol
fashion icon
She and Iha were so fitting, image-wise to Corgan's music. No sweaty, beer-gulping headbangers - just pure class to the goth/art/fuzz - rock music that in reality the Pumpkins played.
😂😂😂
That is such a good point, the "Un-Rockstars".
@@AkathisiaWarrior If you disagree at least do the courtesy of explaining yourself. Just laughing off at someone's face for saying something is gross, maybe even vulgar.
She was not the singer, nor the songwriter, not even the best bass payer of the band.
But she was the true soul of The Smashing Pumpkins. The band still exist, but it's nothing like it was.
I was, still is and always will be in love with D'Arcy !
She was probably my biggest crush in the 90s when I was growing up.
Miss you D’arcy! A huge inspiration as to why I play bass. Such a great compilation!
The audio should really be her song Daydream!
Great idea
She is amazing and a woman who inspired me so much during childhood, teenage years and adulthood. I wish her the best wherever she is ❤

Well...It's seems I'm not the only one who is in love with D'Arcy...wonderful vidéo. Thanks from France
Je fais partie de ceux-là aussi
Such a shame for the world that D’arcy felt she had to hide herself away. One of the first victims of this global online world of shame-culture we live in. Wish instead we could celebrate what a beautiful human being she is and her accomplishments. Please know that you inspired and meant a lot to many people ❤️
She became involved in hard drugs and pushed the band away, eventually getting kicked out. She's not in a good place, and that's evidenced by her recent brushes with the law. We all miss her and hope her the best, but she made some bad decisions. We're not shaming her, we just know this is not how it's supposed to be.
@@Taydrum - Very elegantly put, very nice. Hope she gets back on path.....
@@Taydrum BULLSHIT! That never happened! Her recent brush with the law was over a horse she owns having got out and running around town!!! What the flying F are you talking about? D'arcy was always very private and introverted, and had a few very traumatic experiences in life, none her own doing, that's all.
Billy is the sole reason she set stringent boundaries and demands to tour with them! He's a freaking cheapskate, a narcissist, a liar, and twists everything to suit his fancy and in his favor! He literally asked her to tour, and she had a broken arm, so she asked for the time to heal, but also for everything in writing, and to start practice based on her doctors advice, and billy wasn't satisfied with that, kept calling and then twisted her saying "Not there yet" into she's evading and avoiding me"... bla,bla lie, bla lie, lie, lie! And that when she could have been ready with enough time for a month of practice!
The only one who did hard drugs was Jimmy the drummer, and it caused a lot of problems on tour too! I know, I was their first manager, and guitar and Bass tech for another 6 years. I had the freaking pleasure on many occasions to search every club, bar, and private party of cities I was completely unfamiliar with all freaking night looking for Jimmy, so we didn't miss a tour date! Thanks to cool and helpful fans that lived there I could do so, and even found him but a few times!
I was Billy's freind before the band was even formed. To this day D'arcy doesn't do more than smoke Pot, and neither Billy, nor James ever did even that!
As for Billies stories of his "Drug addiction": It's greatly exaggerated. He did acid no more than 5 times within a few months (We were room mates), and no other drugs, he didn't even drink but a single cocktail here and there. On my urging and understanding of what can happen he stopped doing acid: I had a lot of experience with it years prior, and stopped myself when the "Psychic crack" phenomenon and it's unpredictability was better known and published. Using Sid Barret of Pink Floyd as an example, a freind of mine suffered the same fate! Billies dad ruined his life because of drug use, and he could have been just as famous, and is a wicked guitar player, but all messed up, so billy had plenty of reason not to go that rout.
@@mistersniffer6838 It's a lie! She is on the right path to never deal with Billy again, and also the many stories people who don't know jack make up in their own heads about famous people and spread as truth!!
@@Bob-of-Zoid - You saying she doesnt have drug issues?
still my favorite crush with Shirley Manson haha
Great, now you've done it. Now I love her more than before I watched this video. Thanks!
I miss u D'arcy.
Yes!! Smokingggg
Ti amo D'Arcy
Most awesome video of D'Arcy Thank you!
I wish Billy Corgan would go to her place, break down the door with an ax (if necessary) and tell her the truth: That he loves her (deep down inside you know he does) and wants her back no matter what. Tell her that her fans love her and want her back. It shouldn't be that tough. Get her back before it's too late. No matter what it takes.
@@MegaMkmiller billy Corgan has way to big an ego for that dude.
@@MegaMkmiller Billy has been trying to get her back in the band for ages. It never works because she is a crack head. She has wasted opportunities like most drug addicts do.
@@thejohnson9204 Thats really oversimplifying situation. D'Arcy screwed up a lot, but Corgan isn't a nice humble guy who's done everything he can to get her back in the band. They both have issues holding them back. He's got way too much pride to do what it would take for these two to make up.
@QTee Fuck off, it's no lie. Enlighten me on how it is??? She has a well documented history of drug addiction. Drug addicts are almost impossible to work with. Billy tried to get her back, but like any drug addict they are to lazy to do anything. Call me a liar, I call you a fucking deluded fool....... How's that bitch???
I don't care what anyone says (including Billy!) but the Pumpkins _are_ James Jimmy D'Arcy and Billy. I'm fully aware bands can evolve, and Billy wrote some absolute classics after the line up changed... but just look at the four of them together!! They were the perfect band. I'm so glad I was around (and gigging/clubbing) when they were.
I miss the young d’arcy wretzky. I hope she’s doing well now.

I make sure to tell people they're genuinely beautiful. They don't need to follow someone else's vision of perfection. D'arcy was naturally the most beautiful woman in rock and she still is. Love Chris.
I still love her, one of the reasons why I started to play bass, loving that sound, I bought my first bass same to hers. SP is not SP without her.......
what a beautiful human being.
The Smashing pumpkins pretty much ended when she left in my opinion. They never had the same magic since. D'arcy got fed up with Billy's ego and left for the sake of her mental health (that says a lot when you're on drugs as it is). Shame that he burnt her out of making music entirely. Her 2018 interview was sad but filled with a lot of honesty. It's kind of clear that she was the only one that really fought back against Billy's controlling behavior while everyone else just went along with it. Calling her a "mean spirited drug addict" in itself is mean spirited. She needed help and she pretty much got abandoned and kicked to the side left to cope with it on her own...not a way to treat someone you'd call a friend.
You're entitled to your opinion, of course. And all I know about the Pumpkins is what I've read and seen. But it's easy to call Corgan "controlling," but I haven't heard anything about Darcy (or James or Jimmy) volunteering to help Billy shoulder that workload. From what I've heard, she was an utterly average bassist who was lucky to be in the band at all. And since she left---reports I read said Darcy refused drug rehab---the Pumpkins in 1999, what has she done? Nothing. No music of any kind. One hyped-up jam session with a Michigan goth band that resulted in. . .nothing. No recorded tracks, no concerts, etc. Sure, I can sympathize with her personal issues. But Darcy has the financial means to address these and, apparently, has refused to do so. I'm not saying Corgan is perfect; but who is? And say what you will about him, but he gets his work done. Let Darcy make her own album and then, she can talk shit all she wants. Perhaps she has chosen to be a private citizen. Perfectly understandable. But then she needs to keep her mouth shut. As far as I can see, Darcy was dumb-lucky to get what she had. She should be thanking Corgan, not trashing him.
@@jacklowe3429 The epitome of being in the right place, at the right time. People with that level success, so early on, are more likely to take it for granted & assume they'll be just as successful at anything they try. Like the average reality show persona, who quits a high rated show thinking they're moving on to become an oscar winning actress.
I think he could have used different words with describing her however unless you have dealt with an addict esp in a work type environment you might not know how difficult it can be. Not saying I think it's right to throw someone away as I have a very close family member who struggles and we all are there when he reaches out and would never forsake them. But Sometimes tho they don't want help and if you're trying to work together on something and they're dealing with withdrawals or just high I'm sure it's not easy. No one probably knows how difficult things were. Just my take. But I certainly would never just cast someone aside as a friend but I may have to sever the work relationship if the addiction interfered.
Her and Sean from WZ was my reason for being in the 90’s💯🙌🏻
