Earthquake destroys road connecting Turkey and Syria, drone video shows

- Drone footage showed huge cracks in a main road connecting Turkey's Hatay and Syria's Aleppo following Monday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed thousands of people across both countries.
The deadly quake toppled thousands of buildings including hospitals, schools and apartment blocks, injured tens of thousands and left countless people homeless.
As the death toll surpasses 11,000 people, rescue workers struggled to reach some of the worst-hit areas like Kahramanmaraş, held back by destroyed roads, poor weather and a lack of heavy equipment.

I live 450 km away from the earthquake zone. But we felt these earthquakes. A very strong earthquake. There is great destruction in 10 provinces. Some small towns and villages were destroyed. It is not like an earthquake, as if an atomic bomb had been dropped. 5 of my relatives died. There are wounded and dead everywhere. No country can fight this disaster alone. I am calling to all countries of the world, please help us. Mankind must hold hands to be strong
Everyday peoples hearts are with you. But many of our governments are evil and controlled by the money handlers. Perhaps we will be allowed to be more like brothers on the other side of life. I hope so.

For Syria there is no global response, only non NATO countries can help them. Canada and US have sanctions on Syria. You cannot send Syria food or money from Canada. That’s why only Russia, China and Pakistan are in Syria helping. Even though America has a military base there those American soldiers are not helping because they’re busy stealing Syria oil.

Me too, I actually commented on 'From Rust to Roadtrip' how modern looking their remote highways looked, like what we have in northern Canada. But when the earth shifts 10 ft or so there just is nothing you can do :(
Turkey's transportation networks are more beautiful and modern than many developed countries, but our buildings are not safe and sound. Turkish buildings should be as strong as Japanese buildings, but contractors cheat to make more money.

The Canadian government cannot send money to Syria. Canada has sanctions against Syria it is illegal to send money there. That’s why the countries that are helping are non NATO, Russia, Pakistan for example.

@@ashokathegreat4534 well i was just thinking about it and back in the past people lived in wooden huts or tents and then its not that threatening if the earth shakes.
Makes one wonder if they have any earthquake proof building codes considering they are on a fault line?
Unfortunately not. Buildings in Japan can withstand earthquakes with a magnititude of 9 yet in this area it seems thousands of buildings collapse, which means they had absolutely no consideration of the earthquake while doing the construction. Huge mistake because Turkey is basically sitting on 3 MAJOR fault lines and hundreds of other medium to small fault lines.
After a huge 7.6 earthquake in 1999 that killed over 17,000 people Turkey imposed a earthquake/disaster tax in order to prepare for a future disaster. Guess where the money was NOT spent.
I am from the city that 2nd part of the video shows. There is a very strict code written inline with Japan and the US regulations but greedy builders and corrupted officials cause those codes to be apply only partially. Sad.
Same with fire prone areas. The builders make more money if you have to start building again.

Огромная трагедия, после которой уже ничего нельзя вернуть во вчерашнюю счастливую жизнь. Все начинать с чистого листа, потеряв близких людей, жилье. Желаю, как можно быстрее восстановить нормальную жизнь, оправиться от невосполнимых потерь, а погибшим теплого и мягкого облачка на небе! Сколько горя принесло это стихийное бедствие, которое никто не ждал , которое сломало судьбы тысяч людей. Всем мира, добра, взаимопонимания , любви и взаимопомощи!
