Beginner does amazing, instructor aka experienced messed up your car. Moral of the story don't judge a beginner on his first time on the track. Stay blessed.
Because S2000 are snappy and now cheap enough for the newly wfh crowd to buy as first sports cars. In my opinion a peaky engine and a snappy chassis makes for a terrible first sports car. I6 z3 is a much better platform for a beginner.
Lmao I knew exactly what happened before I watched the video. Every video when somebody snaps an S2k THEY IMMEDIATELY LET OFF THE GAS and you can’t do that, u gotta hit the gas and ride the slide cause it’s not gonna correct itself with sheer counter steer.
Did you have track insurance? Some covers the instructor driving. Look into that if you did. What's the context of the first two people driving in the first ~5 mins?
I did not, but you bet I will going forward! The first 2 are a couple friends of mine that just took me out on the track a day early to see it since it was my first time.
Sometimes friendship needs to be redefined at the track. Especially when it's your car. The second driver in black helmet drive the fastest part of the track (backstretch by the tower) with only one hand on the wheel. If a buddy wants to drive your car, discuss with him first and unless he's willing to pay for damages to the car and the track, don't let him drive.
I once had an instructor that had 5 track days under his belt. I figured he must have been a prodigy or something, but it turns out some orgs just don't ask for much out of an instructor. Definitely something to be cautious about.
My first HPDE my instructor drove my car for a few laps to start out/first session. Value was seeing where I was supposed to go/the line. I'm sure he wanted to get an idea of what he was working with. Should be done at no-helmet/parade lap pace. I've read/heard of this issue several times...at some point if I ever instruct, I wouldn't want to drive a student's car for this reason...better to just take them out in your to show them the line the first few laps/first session, then switch.
That guy shouldnt be an instructor That car is not set up well- looks very snap happy With that said, that was completely savable by a decent driver. Given his first response was "OMG! Full lock the wheel!," he probably isn't super experienced. I saw it coming a few turns earlier- and I have no business instructing anyone.
This is why I would never let someone else drive my car, even an instructor. If you wreck my car, I'll probably try and kill you, if I wreck it, I can only blame myself and I can handle that. lol
Nice build. Watched your other video. Sorry to hear about the track day mishap. In watching the guy instructing while driving your car he didn’t seem confident driving your car. Things happen. Glad your safe.
I’d hope that the organizers gave you a break on track fees since you didn’t get any seat time through no fault of your own. It’s a shame that instructor was trying to barge that berm so hard in a vehicle that wasn’t his. At least he taught you how not to drive another person’s car. Good luck with him fixing it. Hope it all works out in the end.
Yea the dudes at GL were super nice and offered to move my credits to Mid-Ohio if I wanted in august if I want. Yea he really shouldn’t have driven it like that so I’m not sure what happened.
Outside of a few early apexes and some crabbing in i think you were doing well. #1 rule from my first instructor Danny sullivan in 1980 is Don't try to hard sometimes you need to slow down to go faster
Yea he was too heavy on mid corner throttle and stayed in it, I track my S and if someone is not familiar with s2000 snap oversteer and maintenance throttle through mid corner it will come out extremely quick. Tough lesson for your first track day, fix it no time and make them sit passenger from now on!
LOL @ the instructor! he should not be driving your car. he should be guiding you on the passenger seat. sorry for the accident bro. that hurts coming from a fellow s2k owner specially if its not your fault.
So it was your 1st track day as stated. I'm trying to figure out why you were driving solo. You would be considered a novice being your 1st track day and I believe most track groups would require you to have an instructor. Can you explain why you didn't?
Technically the instructor doesn't have to pay a penny. But if he's willing to pay it but say he refuses to after seeing the bill. You can take him to court and go from there. The instructor should know better to dial it down. Next time buy HPDE insurance, Lockton Motorsport HPDE Insurance or Hagerty HPDE Insurance. It covers both driver and instructor if somthing was to happen. Sucks it had to happen to such a awesome looking car.
You handled it well my dude. I know how this shit can feel - literally had the same type of damage but worse on the passenger corner. You can just have a good shop do a bunch of pulling and primering, or you can have a quarter replaced (which is expensive and lengthy). It was a clean car, and it's shame for it to go that way, but if you commit to race car mode - it won't matter that it was crashed a time or two :) Very likely it would've died on track anyway.
Thanks man, yea I’m more and more sour about it as a watch more footage. It will need a quarter because where it hit warped the rear taillight assembly and quarter unfortunately
@@TheVCRoflcopter I promise you - it can be pulled out and primered with the right body guy, though won't look as good :) just keep that in mind if you have to pay out of pocket and need some cash saved. You'll be alright - it's just a piece of metal and nobody was hurt.
At least now the tremendous driving skills of these supposed instructors are on full display for all to see. ignoring for now the lack of heal toe ,what's with all the down shifting? That's not a sequential. Brake, downshift to desired gear and go. Great to hear that you had a good time in spite off. My suggestion would be to go with another group that has some real instructors that can help instead of showcasing their supposed skills.
NASA specifically says instructors are not allowed to drive student's cars. Guess they have had some issues like this as well. Hope the instructor will compensate you for the damages.
Sub just to see if he does pay. Seen another youtuber with his s2k let his sub drive on the street and hit a motorcycle. My daddy always said of you loan your car you'll loan your women too. Best of luck to you✌🏽🙏🏽
Sorry to see this. On the plus side the car is for sure not a bring a trailer $5000000 example anymore, so you can send it without any regrets. I'd prefer starting with a track with no walls/barriers/objects to hit in the event of an off or spin. Even if that means driving far for a track day.
@@TheVCRoflcopter Okay, to practice without risk you can practice rolling onto the throttle when coming to a stop on the street. Light turns red, stab clutch, and just practice hitting your target with the throttle while you brake. You can also do it when stopped, just hold the brake and blip the throttle at a stop. Just program the muscle memory. Then once that feels boring and useless, start adding in the gear changes on the way to the stop. Once you nail that, start practicing it with skipping gears. For example, if you're deep into the brakes in fifth, wanting to end up in third you can delay the downshift and just target third. If you match it properly there's no extra strain on the synchronizes. -Ex driving instructor. Good luck. Your lines were decent, but you can tell you're not totally comfortable with the task or environment. My wife is at the same stage.
No shame in not rev-matching. You're out there learning, and that's what it's all about. It's such a damn shame that the instructor crashed your car. I just hope this doesn't sour you on track driving. You drove well within your limits, and it looks like you learned a lot. You seemed so excited to finally be out there. Keep us posted on the repairs. I'm going to sub so I can see your triumphant return!
Another way to practice rev-matching/heel and toe: drive down the road at a steady speed. Put the clutch in and blip the throttle. Select the next lower gear and let off the clutch. The goal is to rev the motor to where it will be in the lower gear. Ie: Say at 40 mph in 5th gear, you're at 2,000 RPM, and 3,000 in 4th. Rev the engine to 3,000 select 4th and let off the clutch. You'll know you did it right when the car doesn't shutter or buck when you let off the clutch. When you master that, you can move to heel and toe: which is the same thing, but you're braking and blipping the throttle at the same time.
Hey I seen your post on FB, didn't realize it was your instructor that crashed the car. That really sucks man. Hopefully you get it fixed up and get back out there!
Dang this sucked, sorry man. Even thought it was 2 years ago, but lowkey you could have still drove for the weekend lol. I would have just taken the rear bumper off.
well that's S2000 snap oversteer for you. That slide looked just about impossible to recover in my opinion. I have experienced this in my Fiero (with myself behind the wheel) and I had a crash that did some significant damage. It's fixed up now but not a good day by any means
Unfortunately, the term "instructor' is extremely loose in the hpde/track day world. Too often I see the blind leading the blind. If this guy is supposed to have been setting an example for you, he should not sending your car over kerbs, over a crest, on throttle. Just that short clip is enough to tell me he is operating way above what he is capable of. Sorry for your car getting shunted. Be extremely wary of anyone driving your car. If the person that is supposed to be instructing you cannot be talking the whole time and explaining what they are doing, they do not have the capacity to instruct and driving too quickly.
What kind of cost is involved? Could be a good thing. Sucks about the S2K scratch’s tho. Super sad. Agree wasn’t your “actual” ugly duck award. 1 car 2 drivers.
@@TheVCRoflcopter it's for valid reasons. unacceptable not to revmatch, especially at the track. you risk crashing your car again by losing control upsetting its suspension while downshifting by not doing so.
which HPDE group was this? I instruct and we never drive a student's car apart from some initial slow laps to point out the line. really poor instructing. Don't run with that group again. Try 10/10ths Motorsports
The crash was caused by the driving instructor(dressed in black). The guy with the fuzzy green jacked and white helmet is the owner of the vehicle and he was taking it very easy. The instructor is the one who got carried away but over-steering multiple times.

Sucks to see this. Instructor should not be driving your car at the limit like that in my opinion. He doesn't need to go 10/10. He definitely could've let off the throttle earlier as soon as he felt it slipping. He knew it too after the crash.
I wasn't impressed with any of the 3 instructors. You don't take someone else's car and drive it like any of them did. And 2nd instructor placing his right hand on his leg - that's never taught at any PCA event. Who were the organizers? Was there classroom training too?

Beginner does amazing, instructor aka experienced messed up your car. Moral of the story don't judge a beginner on his first time on the track. Stay blessed.
Why do I keep getting Honda S2000 crashing videos in my recommendations?
Lol 😂 idk 🤷🏻♂️
Because S2000 are snappy and now cheap enough for the newly wfh crowd to buy as first sports cars. In my opinion a peaky engine and a snappy chassis makes for a terrible first sports car. I6 z3 is a much better platform for a beginner.
Lmao I knew exactly what happened before I watched the video. Every video when somebody snaps an S2k THEY IMMEDIATELY LET OFF THE GAS and you can’t do that, u gotta hit the gas and ride the slide cause it’s not gonna correct itself with sheer counter steer.
Yea I’m inexperienced and even I know not to lift mid corner in these cars lol 😂
How does that, will the instructor pay for the damages??
It’s on him, he’s said he will take care of it in full so we will see how it goes
@@TheVCRoflcopter That's rare. Usually it's just chalked up to the cost of playing the game. That's a solid guy.... if he follows through.
Hey man sorry this happened to you :(
Hope to see you back out on track soon.
I’ll be back out soon!
That guy shouldnt be an instructor
That car is not set up well- looks very snap happy
With that said, that was completely savable by a decent driver. Given his first response was "OMG! Full lock the wheel!," he probably isn't super experienced. I saw it coming a few turns earlier- and I have no business instructing anyone.
You saw it coming a few turns earlier? Was you there or something? It only shows the turn he crashed in.
This is why I would never let someone else drive my car, even an instructor. If you wreck my car, I'll probably try and kill you, if I wreck it, I can only blame myself and I can handle that. lol
Sadly it’s a lesson I had to live through and learn first hand
@@TheVCRoflcopter We all learn a few lessons the hard way, just glad everybody was okay
Who needs a cabinet when the comment section holds so many tools
Lol 😂
Ill never let anyone drive my car especially around a race track.
Hey instructor, at least doing some proper rev-matching downshift would you....
Lol 😂
Nice build. Watched your other video. Sorry to hear about the track day mishap. In watching the guy instructing while driving your car he didn’t seem confident driving your car. Things happen. Glad your safe.
Thanks man
I’d hope that the organizers gave you a break on track fees since you didn’t get any seat time through no fault of your own.
Fuckin sucks this happened! hopefully you'll get this bad girl back up and ready for more events!
I will for sure!!
Better you then me! That's for sure.. Hopefully you can bring new life to the s2k. Hate to see another thrashed...:/
Why is he not coaching you from the passenger seat?
LOL @ the instructor! he should not be driving your car. he should be guiding you on the passenger seat. sorry for the accident bro. that hurts coming from a fellow s2k owner specially if its not your fault.
Sorry man. Lucky it didnt seem to bad, and unless you really really trust and know someone dont let them drive your car!
Lesson learned 🙃
How did I get to here?
Don’t let instructor drive da boat
So it was your 1st track day as stated. I'm trying to figure out why you were driving solo. You would be considered a novice being your 1st track day and I believe most track groups would require you to have an instructor. Can you explain why you didn't?
Build. Wreck. REBUILD. WRECK AGAIN! Sorry to hear man. Youll come back harder than before!
Plan on it!
Absolutely, he’s said he will take rare of it so we will see!
This man was too calm
Wait that’s an instructor what slow response to counter steer from an instructor
I mean, good on you for staying so calm I guess....
why does the instructor have to drive the car?
Who ended up paying for the damages?
Bummed for you, I hope you get back on the track.
I will! I plan on filming the whole process of fixing and upgrading the car as well.
Man that sucks. Did either of you have insurance?
Track insurance no
big lesson to be learned here.. you first gotta tell your instructor.. please take it easy. lol
If you need to tell your instructor this, they have no business being a HPDE instructor
NASA specifically says instructors are not allowed to drive student's cars. Guess they have had some issues like this as well. Hope the instructor will compensate you for the damages.
He’s supposed to so we will see!
Sub just to see if he does pay. Seen another youtuber with his s2k let his sub drive on the street and hit a motorcycle.
My daddy always said of you loan your car you'll loan your women too. Best of luck to you✌🏽🙏🏽
I get such a kick out of seeing how the best drivers in the world are here in the comment section not in the video. 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I feel for you mate you look genuinely gutted
It might polish out
Sorry to see this. On the plus side the car is for sure not a bring a trailer $5000000 example anymore, so you can send it without any regrets. I'd prefer starting with a track with no walls/barriers/objects to hit in the event of an off or spin. Even if that means driving far for a track day.
Jesus dude, rev match.
I’m new lol I have excuses haha 😂
@@jsternberg I just realized I didn't make it clear that my practice suggestions were to be done under braking, thus assisting him into heel&toe.
wow that sucks. anyway, can happen to the best. an s2000 is not easy at the limit. keep it up!
btw....where did you get that shift knob? what is it?
Thanks man! Yea it’s a Renegade motor sports extended Titanium knob
I love it!
@@TheVCRoflcopter thanks man! love the teardrop shape. like the original nsx Type s/r knob. greetings from germany 👋
🙌🏻 If you haven’t already make sure to subscribe to follow the build
Hopefully the instructor will get some more training for his job so this doesn't happen again.
Damn dude, you had to do that to a GPW S2k? Shoulda got a Suzuka or Silverstone to trash. You better hold that dude accountable
I know right lol it was the right car at the time. I’m hoping it all works out 🤞🏻
He intentionally pressed the throttle down at the apex to try and drift and impress you,
but it bit him hard.
He was already around the apex
Hey I seen your post on FB, didn't realize it was your instructor that crashed the car. That really sucks man. Hopefully you get it fixed up and get back out there!
Thanks man, yea it’s a poop 💩 situation and I hope it works out as clean as possible. I’ll be back out there soon!!
Dang this sucked, sorry man.
Even thought it was 2 years ago, but lowkey you could have still drove for the weekend lol. I would have just taken the rear bumper off.
also is there a full clip of the lap before the crash?
I do have the full lap and I’ll be posting it soon, make sure to subscribe to see it!
Structural or cosmetic? You said both. It’ll buff out
Yea I know lol 😂
It appears to only be cosmetic at this point is what I meant to say. The rear quarter is iffy tho since it buckled on Impact
well that's S2000 snap oversteer for you. That slide looked just about impossible to recover in my opinion. I have experienced this in my Fiero (with myself behind the wheel) and I had a crash that did some significant damage. It's fixed up now but not a good day by any means
I mean, the helmet sticker is "Twerk Team Racing". You should have seen it coming... jokes aside, hope you get it fixed and back soon!
The instructor Kinda sounded like Jesse from F&F😂
Oh man i just realized that haha
he got bit by the oversteer of the s2k, which is snappier than most cars, i daily drive mine so i know what its like to snap out on the rain at 90 lol
I don't let anyone drive my car, I don't care if you're Lewis Hamilton, if its gonna crash, I'm gonna crash it.
Big fax
From now on lol 😂
Fuck paying me.
Were throwing hands.
Lolol
Any track you go to just don't listen to your instructor. Talk with the corner workers and stewards theres a ton of experience there
Unfortunately, the term "instructor' is extremely loose in the hpde/track day world.
The RPM change should have been the clue for him, too little too late, rip.
*too much, too early
11:35 wreck
....the no rev match bothers me...
Seems to bother everyone 😂
@@TheVCRoflcopter it's for valid reasons. unacceptable not to revmatch, especially at the track. you risk crashing your car again by losing control upsetting its suspension while downshifting by not doing so.
It’s my first weekend out so I was honestly testing the car out and leading the track. It was a bit overwhelming but I’ll get better
Man that s2k was really tailgating you
which HPDE group was this? I instruct and we never drive a student's car apart from some initial slow laps to point out the line. really poor instructing. Don't run with that group again. Try 10/10ths Motorsports
it will buff out
lol seems like it's the trend of the year crashing other peoples s2000s
Full Send sticker for your 1st track day.
I almost want to say you deserved this.
The crash was caused by the driving instructor(dressed in black). The guy with the fuzzy green jacked and white helmet is the owner of the vehicle and he was taking it very easy. The instructor is the one who got carried away but over-steering multiple times.
@@SI0AX , The Full Send sticker.
You won't be able to change my mind on this.
@@TheDwightMamba LMAO, I didn't read the *sticker* part! Yeah, it makes sense, you are totally right! The instructor saw that sticker and figured the owner was cool with "full sends"! XD
@@SI0AX , I really can't stand those Nelk dudes and codependent TH-camrs like them.
@@TheDwightMamba Never heard of Nelk. The article I read said that the slang term "full-send" was created by the brand which I find a bit strange, but the fact that they are Canadian and I've seen a Canadian car YT channel "Speed Academy" use the term "send it" etc, it makes sense and seems true.
I dont why the instructor was pushing so hard while trying to teach a student
So trust the guy with dirty on his helmet but don't trust the guy with a NOS sticker. 👍got it.
The first 2 guys are personal friends of mine that both have owned and tracked s2000’s for years and years.
The damage looks like Forza 3 graphics
Ikr 😅
most of that looks cosmetic... tyre marks make it look worst than it is but if thats the case then keep racing!
Dont trust no one lol even the best can crash
Especially when it's a snap over-steer happy car like MR2 and rear engine cars.
That panel is structual to the s2000
Yea it needs a rear quarter for sure, no frame damage at this point though
so who paid for this ?
The instructor is at fault
@@TheVCRoflcopter let’s hope he ends up paying
@@TheVCRoflcopter so he said he'd cover all damages 100% out of pocket?
The instructor is stepping up and paying for repairs, was genuinely upset with is actions, yet there's a need to post this video twice and not getting hashed out over multiple forums, TH-cam, FaceBook??? Honestly, not sure who I feel more bad for at this point. Having this up really isn't necessary and is in bad taste given the circumstances. But hey, that's just me.
Dave
I know I'm late to this party, but what group allows you out solo on your first track day? And these instructors that you're riding with look like terrible drivers. You need to find a better org to ride with, just saying from experience. This looks like a bunch of hyped up wannabes out there - looks dangerous, and sure enough they wrecked your car..
Sucks to see this. Instructor should not be driving your car at the limit like that in my opinion. He doesn't need to go 10/10. He definitely could've let off the throttle earlier as soon as he felt it slipping. He knew it too after the crash.
No, lifting off the throttle makes it much worse and only compounds the error the instructor made.
Yeah thats why you don't early apex genius
Poor driving on both accounts.
He's new. The instructor.... yeah he has no excuse. The bad placement and over correction really compounded the issue. Big shame.
Yes first track day ever out so very new lol 😂
I wasn't impressed with any of the 3 instructors. You don't take someone else's car and drive it like any of them did. And 2nd instructor placing his right hand on his leg - that's never taught at any PCA event. Who were the organizers? Was there classroom training too?
