All you need to add to the smaller kits is good medical tape and those chest seals can be improvised rather easily using the plastic packaging. just tape the plastic over the wound leaving one corner open. this allows air to be expelled from the chest cavity potentially allowing the lung to re-expand while not allowing air back in.
for anyone buying these kits, I suggest you swap the Celox granules for Celox bandage. Granules are dangerous and work poorly. Sprinkling the granules on a gunshot would will do little. Opening the package with your mouth can get the granules in your eyes or mouth which will burn you and potentially blind you. Also, granules in an open wound of the gut must be removed before surgery
I believe AR500 has swapped to putting the Celox Sponge bandage into the kit. The site lists a 50g sponge, and I have one on the way so I can confirm this once it arrives.
Excellent video! I went to AR500 yesterday and made a custom EPIK with the help of their awesome and helpful staff. Everyone that shoots should have one and get educated on each item and learn how to apply it as they were educating me on every item that i purchased.
I like how you have a kit in your cargo pocket. I run a kit on my chest rig and battle belt due to the fact that I might only hav eone of the two at any given time, but that pocket kit was a total light bulb! Great Video! Love AR500 products.
I have 2 of the Tac EPIKs, one with the extra SOF tourniquit. These kits are awesome. And the armor in general is a great deal when you compare it to other plates out there.
This has been sorely needed , pun intended . Thank you for seeing past all the hysterical / trauma going around today staying on point . Thanks All , Thanks be
Sootch00 - if you ever do have to use a tourniquet be careful to keep it spread out as much as possible [not like you were struggling with one handed in the video] to minimize tissue damage at the tourniquet site. This increases the chance that the limb can be saved to somewhere below the tourniquet. Leave it rolled up & unroll as applying it will help with this. Thanks for the video & keep up the good work.
one point to consider for those who haven't used QuikClot/Celox before.... at my previous job, one of our night shift guys sliced his hand open on a jagged piece of metal. the entire time they worked on his hand, it was below heart so the clotting agent didn't work the way it was expected to. always elevate the wound, if possible, above the heart before applying the agent.
Looks like a good kit. Only thing about Celox is that the med-staff wherever your casualty is eventually going is going to have to take time and wash/pick those granules out of the wound. A similar product is on the market, but it is infused into gauze type clotting bandages which can be used as pressure type dressings without the need to pour granules into a deep wound channel. Also, listen to sootch00's last post---be prepared. Being prepared means being properly trained, not just having this kit attached to your gear. All these kits are worth nothing if you aren't properly trained in how to employ this sort of gear effectively when the time comes.
is it just me or does anyone else think that in a SHTF event ill be looking to sootch00 for instructions hes already the leader type and every time he signs off i find myself saying it with him. sootch00 for president lol
These kits are nice - if you have the money. If you don't, make yourself a nice kit by using ziplock sandwich bags and bandages sold at walgreens or wherever. What I carry with me hunting and to the range is a maxpedition cocoon pouch - trauma shears slid into the molle on the back, then inside is 2 petroleum gauze, a decompression needle, and a Israeli bandage. You can buy a box each of 4x4's and conforming stretch gauze for less than one israeli bandage, but I like that fact that the bandage can be used as a tourniquet. Couple of pointers on gunshot wounds (I used to work for st louis city as a medic and now I am a flight medic) - most of the time gun shot wounds (pistol) are a single hole, and not very big. (I have even seen numerous ak47 and ar15 close range shots that weren't very big and did not always create an exit wound) Just use a 4x4 to cover the wound, or petroleum gauze for torso or neck wounds and then wrap it with a conforming stretch bandage or tape it in place. (do not wrap around the neck) These wounds usually don't bleed badly on the outside, the bandage is only to cover the wound and keep it clean. A pressure bandage may help if there is internal bleeding. Definitive care is a trauma center. If necessary, use a pressure bandage or a tourniquet to stop bleeding. I only post this as advice, it does not cover every single type of gunshot wound. If you want to know how to help people take a first aid class. Keep the vids coming sootch, I like your reviews.
Nice kits and video; much cheaper than the kit I made but still comprehensive. I've been hearing and reading some nasty stories about Celox and QuikClot causing strokes and aneurysms after application. What I've researched advises to use them as a last resort use wound compression when possible, suture bandages when necessary and clotting agents as a last resort.
The sucking chest would is the biggest cause of preventable death on the battlefield because it requires more training to treat. You have to seal the wound with plastic at the very least. You should also insert a syringe into the upper part of the lungs on the same side after removing the plunger from the syringe.
I see a problem with the packaging...if your hands are covered in blood or can only use one hand..getting that packaging open is going to be nearly impossible.
Thanks for another great product sootch, because of you and your great reviews I have made purchases with maxpedition and winham weapons. I was wondering how do I get a team sootch moral patch?
I can see people using this for non-trauma injuries and making a situation worse. Good to keep around, but let the EMTs or other HC professionals do the work.
Great video! I have been shooting for awhile now and starting to think about not only safety but what to do in case something goes wrong. Murpheys Law applies to gun ranges as well. Stay safe...
Hey Sootch, a little off topic but do you have a list or PDF of your go bag contents?! I'm starting to get my bag together and I'd like to piggy back off your build plus some area specific stuff of course. Thanks in advance
I do not disagree that this is something that would be great to have in a bad situation! But...you made the comment that "if you shoot enough it's a really good possibility"? How many times have you been at the range or shooting anywhere that somebody has been shot? Really? If you say once... I would never go to the range with you!!!
look into what is called vet wrap its like a sticky ace wrap use it for sprains over bandages or wrap a splint or ? its cheap and very light weight I carry it with all first aid kits in my saddle bags and in my glove box and range bag
Great Product, just be advised: im a Medical professional, and a tourniquete (SWAT-T) is used only in Massive damage to a limb where there enough compromise to have a need for an amputation. Use the Celox and the H&H along with the elastic bandage when you feel a distal pulse (wrist or foot) before applying any kind of first aid. If there is no distal pulse, or if the affected extremity looks like a zombie limb, go ahead and apply the SWAT-T. Just loosen and re-tighten the Tourniquete every 15min, so you don cause Isquemia on the skin and tissue that is being compressed with the Tourniquete. This is a great trauma kit and y think every one should have some sort of first aid kit in your car and house at any time. Great Product. Stay Safe. Long live the republic.
As a trained medical professional I would not recommend the Celox crystals. If you want to use something like it go with the bandages that have it infused. You have a good chance on breathing it in and the crystals have to be removed at the hospital usually surgically. The IBD, Israeli battle dressing is the way to go for a fast and easy bandage. It eliminates most of what's in that basic kit.
I ordered these on your recommendation. Problem is that AR500 still has not got the order to me and its been over 4 MONTHS. They say there was a shortage of something coupled with a large amount of orders so I guess it will just take time. I ordered my kits at the beginning of August and still patiently waiting.
Shipping dept has not gotten any better in the last year. I'm at 2 months waiting for my whole order, not just my ifak, which is advertised to have a 3 week lead time.
In a bug out bag I would never add Celox. In a scenario where no hospitals are aviable, you have to pluck all those grains out by your self before closing the wound with whatever you have. Thats not an option for me at least.
Hey buddy. Sweet vid of a great product. Just to clean things up a bit, the guys name for the vid you referenced is actually TheHossUSMC. Think you might have his name listed backward in the vid and in the about section. Just an FYI. Keep the good stuff coming.
Please stop telling viewers to just pack things into wounds. Depending on the location and mechanism of the injury, they could do far greater harm to the patient. Also, a compression dressing is just what it says, for compression. It is not for packing wounds. I enjoy your videos and reviews but I had to speak up on this.
Glock~23/c I was referring to the compression dressing he talked about (he said to pack the compression dressnig in the wound). When it comes to hemostatic dressings for gunshot or puncture wounds, granules are bad news. They must be completely removed by doctors during surgery to repair the wound. If you need equipment to pack in to a wound because compression alone will not stop the bleeding, buy something like Quikclot combat gauze. This is a one piece system so it can be easily pulled out by a surgeon. Tampons also work well as they are designed to be inserted and absorb blood. Both of those options allow for quick removal to expedite a surgery. If you are in a SHTF scenario, by all means use whatever you have available to stop bleeding. However if you are just using this as a range trauma kit, stick with things that make it easier on medical professionals. I love Sootch00 and his videos, the only issue I had was with using a compression dressing inside a wound cavity.
Couldn't agree with you any more, Doc. I've been in the Corps for a few years and the amount of misinformation all over TH-cam blows my mind. You'd do a better job of explaining abdominal wounds than I can, but could you explain why this is a bad idea, I've already explained it a million times today on the various videos of been commenting on. I do like the Celox applicator, which makes controlling bleeding in wounds that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to control with gauze, much easier. Word of advice: Go read up on TCCC, and OCTCCC. Fancy gear is great, but training is even better. Check out Dark Angel medical. Kerry really knows his stuff. Yut.

Thanks for the video! I am a little put off by the prices though. It seems that there are many other companies that provide kits with the same items and more for the same price. Some of the fully stocked GI issue kits for example have so many items you can make many bags from them.... What do you think? Maybe I am off with this statement. Are they truly worth the price or are you paying for the name? Don't get me wrong I know spending money on a med kit is worth your life. I just don't want to pay Armani prices for the stuff... :-)
***** Take it from a EMT trained person the Israeli bandage is a lot better than anything else out there. I have had to use them on patients and they are great.
Hey there Sootch00 very nice video i just made a new Video for You just telling you thanks for all your informative videos and how to be prepared Please take a look and let me know what you think your friend Plumpy E
Narcotic analgesia are controlled substance, and should never used by untrained people. If you were asking for OTC painkiller, you could add it yourself?
Dude, you watched too much war movie. Morphine is very dangerous medication, could easily kill you if misused. Hence is highly regulated. I am an EMT with TCCC cert, narcotics are not a used by basic providers.
Charles Karl yes they can, I actually own 3 different rigs for various situations. Right now AR500 is having a sale as is multiple sites that sell them. Good luck.
+rookierescue The trama kits and options Sootch is showing are for self aid options and procedures. As for rendering first aid to someone else, we as first responders are covered by the Good Samaritan law, as long as we are acting in good faith. As for "Joe" civilian, you may be right in that you could be held liable for screwing the pooch in rendering first aid. Sad state of affairs given the litigated society we live in now.

I second this. Granules are no longer standard protocol, the wraps/bandages are. All the reasons are there! Smart office guy^^

Kevin Moore use a tourniquet
Keir McQ a tourniquet is only used as a last resort.
Kevin Moore true as a tourniquet will likely result in lost of a body part but better than a life.
or a use a tourniquet temporary to use bleed stop agent
Great video, Mr. sootch00! Airway, breathing, and circulation! These kits cover the circulation part quite well.

Not a bad price for the kit !!! Thanks for the info ,keep up the good work bringing vids to us to enjoy!!!
Fantastic review of great products. You never know what's around the corner!
thanks for Clip. I also have a medical kit. Its very good to see a other one so that can see the differences.
wow this is great I was looking for couple trauma kits to have on my 72 hour kit and my first aid daily pack. thanks for sharing.

Looking to buy these products. Your review was helpful. Appreciate all your videos I've watched. Thanks Sootch00!
Love your reviews, stay strong bud.
As always, thanks’ for taking the time to make this video! And I support this site. ~M~
It would be cool to see combat gauze in the kit, it would save some room and have a dual purpose of clotting the wound and covering it. . .
+TheRebelGunslinger I think they should add it but I'd stick with the Celox, personally.
Awesome job on the rundown
I would love to see that modular bandage, wonder if that cup could be used in a eye injury management.
As always, extremely helpful info.
Thanks for the vid. ..
I see a problem with the packaging...if your hands are covered in blood or can only use one hand..getting that packaging open is going to be nearly impossible.
At least one for the house, car, PC, and range bag.
I'd like to know 100% about any advertising disclosure. It seems strange that you'd buy all these kits, though possible...
Thanks for another great product sootch, because of you and your great reviews I have made purchases with maxpedition and winham weapons. I was wondering how do I get a team sootch moral patch?

How does this kit compare to the one SkinnyMedic is selling? Or rather which one of these compares best to the one he's selling?
I do not disagree that this is something that would be great to have in a bad situation! But...you made the comment that "if you shoot enough it's a really good possibility"? How many times have you been at the range or shooting anywhere that somebody has been shot? Really? If you say once... I would never go to the range with you!!!
hate to say this but those gloves aren't even sterile in the package but they are better than nothing
Another great review brother, love what you do.
Good video, Sootch00, thanks!!
I would love to get one with every thing
Is there any expiration dates for any of items in any of the 3 available EPIK?
just to let you know they take 13 weeks to put your order together for the ifak??
Nice piece of kit, Thanks for your videos Sootch!
Your videos are always very helpful. Thanks
If you buy one of these you need to learn how to use these items. A basic first aid class probably won’t cover all of this stuff.
Ordered ! Thanks for the post, I was looking for another IFAK type system.
Excellent review!
i need one of these for mining. i have one of usnerdoc pack already.
Why did you change from recommending Skinnymedics trauma bag to AR500?
look into what is called vet wrap its like a sticky ace wrap use it for sprains over bandages or wrap a splint or ? its cheap and very light weight I carry it with all first aid kits in my saddle bags and in my glove box and range bag
Great looking kits!

George Cadenas Yes received it in march.
Wow!

socata69 Wow! that sad to hear about them...I was hoping that they would step it up.
I was looking for a good med kit, this looks like it. Thanks.

yup

I corrected it in the description and there's a link there as well. Thanks~
the plates are nice but their customers service sucks. they messed up my order and refused to make it right. best of luck if they make a mistake.
cool kit there RAMBO

Its actually a very good price if you price each piece
What for a pouch is that exactly?
No CPR mask? Also, have you heard of Israeli bandages?
The Israeli Bandages are getting a lot of positive reviews. I've been wanting to get my hands on some to check out.

They dont have any painkillers why??
Narcotic analgesia are controlled substance, and should never used by untrained people. If you were asking for OTC painkiller, you could add it yourself?
TimCeallaigh I dont know man you will need painkiller with needle to make it..

MrWilko you just gotta bite the bullet mate
Thanks for This video!!!! Atte: Pedro LEON

Civilians can buy body armor?
Charles Karl yes they can, I actually own 3 different rigs for various situations. Right now AR500 is having a sale as is multiple sites that sell them. Good luck.

unless you're mil or ops outside of the US you better know what you're doing with this or else you'll find yourself in a civil lit shit hole.
