@@benstolen69i think you’re right, gates seems like a winner and he’s making serious noise without the most talented roster, if he’s a good recruiter, which he definitely was at cleveland state, he could definitely win a national title or at least get us to the final 4 if he gets enough time here
@@mihnty Yeah national titles are so difficult to win, and even all time great teams miss out on them. I think a final 4 would solidify him as the best coach in school history. Of course i'm getting miles ahead of myself here, let's see what he can do as he builds his culture and future recruiting classes here.
@@benstolen69 i think the good news for the immediate future is that this season’s team is built for a march madness run, under the radar, chaotic style of play, and most importantly a massive emphasis on teamwork, we may be inconsistent but i wouldn’t be comfortable betting against us under any circumstances. in the long term, dennis is charismatic, the students love him, the fans love him, and the fans love him, i think that’ll give him some wiggle room for a rough season or two. overall, we’ve got a good class coming in and the SEC is primed for a new top dog after kentucky’s recent struggles
AP from Paseo High School. (HELL of a Baseball player too.) Kansas City had sum INCREDIBLE players come out of the local Kansas.City High Schools fr 1988-98. Rock Chalk
I knew Norm Stewart had a recruiting pipeline in Detroit, but this was 4 out of 5 starters from there! (Where were Michigan and Michigan State?) Missouri has generally struggled since Norm retired. We hope for a return to glory.
The reason I liked Norm Stewart as the coach of the Tigers is he would stop right there by Royals and Chiefs Stadium and stay the night there he refused to stay on the Kansas side of the State line I always found that funny I really wish that they would revive this rivalry all the way around in every sport that way it just doesn't benefit one team like in basketball it would benefit KU Or in Football it would obviously benefit MU but in all sports but Kansas for some reason doesn't want to do it
Missouri, my hat is off to you guys. I'm a lifetime KU fan, but the Tigers have the better football team this season. Chase Daniel kicked our butts. Good luck the rest of the season, and we'll try to stick it to you next year!
@@primebeef3938 Yes really. Doug went to my school. Same school as Jerome bettis, Pepper johnson, Gilbert Brown. Peeler played in the summer leagues / clinic in Chicago in the late 80s.
It is amazing how much less annoying Dick Vitale was back then. I met Peeler in Vegas about a month ago. This all brings back some great memories. I miss those great uniforms also.
Detroit was just stacked with top talent. Michigan won the 1989 National Championship. I think the 1990 Mizzou Tigers vastly underperformed in the NCAA.
This Mizzou team and the team from the prior season were Final Four caliber. I love Norm but his teams always peaked in conference play and faded in the Big Dance. Sigh...
Missouri STILL has no Final Fours. Only 3 Elite8 appearances since this game. KU has 10 Elite8 appearances in last 17 years. 40 mid major schools have made at least 1 Final Four. Mizz?
@John Barkley I respect your loyalty to Mizz. But Mizz is far fr a football school. Losing Bowl rec, never even played in a BCS Bowl during BCS years, hasn't even played in a National Title game, Mizz hasn't won a Conf Title in over 50 years. Sorry bud..Mizz isn't a football school. Shit, Nebraska is a former Football Powerhouse that is now just a football school. That's because Nebraska hasn't won a Conf Title in over 20 years. But Nebraska still has all those National Titles. Nebraska fball and Indiana basketball is same. Former Powerhouse's. Indiana basketball? Just 1 Elite8 Appearance in last 28 years. That's insane.
@John Barkley Sounds like u all got a QB for future. Maybe by his Jr season he'll have Mizz competing for a Playoff spot or an SEC Conf Title. Mizz is a QB school. I'll give y'all that.
@John Barkley Dude...Does playing KU in fball even matter anymore? 2007-2009? Feels like 50 years ago. Anyways, I'm still suffering over 2020 NCAA Tournament being canceled. I called "Chiefs/Jayhawks" SB/National Titles for 2020. Chiefs won, Jayhawks were winners of 16straight, just beat #1Bay in Waco. KU was by far the most overwhelming #1overall seed maybe ever in NCAA Tournament history. Most efficient KU team by stats in my 32 years as a fan. Never will know. Doke/Dotson gone. Fucking Covid-19.
jeez, that was the year we got no ncaa tournament b/c norm started coaches vs cancer and that was some how against ncaa rules. and btw, phil pressey is 7 assists away from tying anthony peeler's assist record.
College basketball is dead compared to these days. One and done killed it and I stopped watching. There are no true rivalries as far as teams top players going at it year after year. Its such a shame!!
The early 90s Mizzou teams should’ve won at least 1 national title. A crapload of talent...
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Dennis Gates will finally cross that threshold for us at some point in his tenure here

Hard to believe this Mizzou team didn't win it all. They had everything. Dr. Detroit did a hell of a recruiting job in Detroit
My fav Mizzou team
I miss when Missouri was a competent basketball school 😞

Man, the glory days of Mizzou basketball. I have a feeling that will be seeing games like this soon with Anderson as our head coach.
15 years later.. we still are waiting.
Rest in Peace, Mr. John Saunders.
Damn. I played with their whole starting lineup in high school.
Really? Doug smith was from Michigan if I remember correctly and Anthony Peeler was from Kansas City.

Love the old gold uni's.
Man I miss the Big 8
Ron Franklin AND Dick Vitale? I'm in heaven👍
Today's the 30th anniversary & counting for this rivalry showdown of the "Border War!", 6th times for 6th weeks!

GO MIZZOU
I wish i was alive for this

RIP Mr John Sanders.
Toward the end of the video it starts to sound like the announcers are getting a massage lol. Good footage!
Mizzou all day
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH the good ole days!!!!!!!
I see a repeat this year!!!
Anthony Peeler was from KC, the #1 recruit out of KC, then Norm stole the best Detroit talent from Michigan and Michigan St.

Played against him in HS. Dude was the truth.
Is it any possibility that you could ReUL this game as a full game video? Many thanks in advance!
Luckily this guy did: th-cam.com/video/y5gf7pDkAV0/w-d-xo.html
It is unusual, but it's important to be classy. Yeah, I don't like the Tigers, but I have to admit they're the better team.

Give him 2 more years, I like his style of coaching.
At about 7:00 Dicky V called Anthony Peeler a left handed Michael Jordan. 😆 😆 😆
anyone have the whole game link for this? it would be greatly appreciated
Detroit classic roundball making its contribution to Mizzou.
What a bizarre edit. How was the game that close if Kansas scored NO baskets?

Michael Jordan: “And I took 7:21 personal…”
Had to come here because of John Saunders.
Glory years
Kansas beat #1UNLV & #2LSU that 1989-90 Season in the Preseason NIT Tournament.
KU wasn't even ranked. KU beat them both in a 24hr period!
where is the 1989 blowout against ku 91-66
crushed by the power of norm!
We had a GREAT pipeline to Detroit back in the day.
Rich Daly had a connection in Detroit which ended up being some illegal stuff.
