Hey Jack, you’re clearly capable of building this closure system, but rhetorical question here. Does this system in totality survive KISS? I’ve built three small boats, and looking for inspiration for my next build. I’m thinking and designing around ability to repair in remote locations. Just food for thought. Good luck!

That is a good question, Michael. Thank you.
I asked myself if a normal, off the shelf hatch, would be simpler. And I think it would. However I haven't found any examples that are similar to my idea, so I feel like it falls into an unproven concept area. It may very well not survive the KISS idea, however I think I have to test it to see if it does or doesn't. If my build can prove that it does in fact work, then I think it would be an idea that others could benefit from.
That is the fun part of building your own boat. You can try different things that haven't been tried yet. And a benefit of making your own equipment, is that it's usually easier to repair yourself. Where manufactured parts usually require buying a replacement part.
I should be able to build it this summer, so we'll find out.
Good luck on your next design! I'd love to see what you come up with, so if you ever put up a blog or post a video on it, definitely let me know.

@@PixieSV oh 100% I completely agree! There is so much fun in doing it yourself. I think that’s what I like a lot about your build so far, it reminds me of building in the past and wanting to build again. Likewise for Sven’s and Perry’s builds.
I’m thinking for hatches I’ll be trying to keep things simple, I’ve had hatches break while sailing offshore in a Fisher30 and being frustrated by the lack of simplicity in its construction.
