Yo MC! Thanks for sharing these with your audience. I am Ben, the owner of JWK and the designer of this knife. Please allow me to answer some of your questions: 1) Pricing is the same for all variants in this release, Three Fifty in the US. 2) There were 6 versions of the Gunslinger Jack produced in this recent model run. 3) Coating is DLC, not PVD. 4) I do not put a cutout on the show side to create more lock bar access as to not compromise the traditional knife aesthetic. I believe the knife can be unlocked effectively without it, so that is why that decision was made. 5) I do not disclose my OEM, however I do disclose they are Chinese. There is a confidentiality agreement in place. I know this bothers some people and that is understandable. One benefit of this is, people can judge my knives based strictly on merit and not preconceived notions. After 2+ years of sales and over 20 unique model releases, I think it's safe to say that a track record of quality and consistency has been established. And at the end of the day, people are buying knives from me, not the OEM. My team and I are the brand. So if a customer has any sort of issue or concern, they will contact us and we will take care of them. They will never have to deal with the OEM. Lastly, It is not Reate. I started with Reate in the beginning of this project; they made my first prototypes. But I had to switch when they couldn't meet the delivery expectations they originally established. Thanks again, and thanks to anyone who reads this. Always happy to answer questions! -Ben
@metal_complex I think you should read this. And maybe PIN it.
Also, @BenBelkin - I am a knife n00b kinda. I’ve only really been extremely interested in them for about 6 months.
By this point the nuances, terms, innovations, and big players in this Knife Industry are fairly well understood by me. And I know, factually, that Jack Wolf Knives are just about universally loved by people who know their stuff.
I one day plan and hops to own one of your/JWKs’ knives. Great job on this design. You seem like a cool owner of a very successful knife company. Like I somehow gathered from your post that you are not a guy that thinks he is superior to everyone else. I hope I’m right.
Anyways…keep it up. And I hope you keep that humble yet confident approach to knives. And to life.
(I’m gonna laugh if I read you all wrong.)
- Reid18
@@Reid18thanks for the response. I always try to stay humble. The truth is I cannot do this without the support of awesome folks like you. I am reminded about this everyday and I will never forget it!
Any plans on restock? Interested in a fat carbon dark matter gold but have not found any via your online dealers.
The moment I read "Quality" in the same paragraph with "China" I chuckle so incredibly much.
They'll use whatever they damn well want and tell you what you want to hear.
Buyers be warned.
There's a reason every single engineer state side hates working with those overseas conartists. They love to butter up the CEO's and marketing teams with how much money you'll save. When in reality they're raking you over the coals for quality.
For that expensive of a knife I would rather purchase from Ukraine, USA, Europe, or Australia.
Not some gamble of chance from a country with a rampant use of "gutter oil" mentality.
I absolutely love the brand, and Ben is an awesome guy to support. I have several Jack Wolfs and they are all fantastic knives. The models running on bearings (Gunslinger & After Hours) are my favorites. The slip joints are also phenomenal, but I like the fidgetiness of the Ginslinger and After Hours. Materials are always top notch, quality is great, the S90V blades are hollow ground and very slicey, and the designs are outstanding. The knives are very solid and the ergonomics are excellent. I really can’t say enough great things about the brand. Ben is a great designer/owner. He has always been very helpful, respectful, humble, and genuinely appreciative of his customers. He even offers a $20 water stone sharpening service In collaboration with Corey Dunlap. He even states “Minor repairs, such as small chips, edge rolls, and tip breakage are taken care of at no additional charge” and that’s a pretty good deal in my opinion. Anyways I’m babbling now….. JUST GO BUY JACK WOLF KNIVES!
Thank you so much Robbie!! We are super grateful for your support and are always happy to do whatever we can for our amazing customers. Have a great weekend!!
So happy to see JWK on MC!! Can't wait to see your full review! The Gunslingers are fabulous knives but there are another 19 models, primarily slip joints, coming from JWK. They are phenomenal and you should have some on the channel to review! I loved seeing your unboxing reaction because as a fan of the brand I feel the same way every time I drop one in my pocket!!
Thank you as always Josh!! You are the man.
It is indeed DLC, both versions are the same price @ $350, and with a full hollow grind, they are wicked thin bte. I have one in Toxic Green Camo Carbon, and I love it. OEM is kept a secret unfortunately.
Thank you for the support!!
@@BenBelkin Thank you for everything you do, from making an amazing product, to taking the time to reach out to us on the regular, even if it’s a simple “thank you for the support”. I’ve been following your work before any knives were released, and there was just a promotional website with a few models on it. I can say that between then, and now, you’ve continued to impress me with your constant improvements, and the quality of the products you put out. I’m looking forward to what you have cooking up for this year. 😁
@@lordshivr I really appreciate that Marcos! I'm glad you've enjoyed the ride, I certainly have! And 2024 and 2025 are shaping up to be DOPE!!!!! Have a great weekend my friend.
Oh man, so excited to see the review for this. My JWK After Hours Jack is a top 3 knife in my collection.
MC:
- As the comments have indicated, we don't know who the OEM is.
- There are 6 variants in the current run and they all cost the same, $349. This is the second run of these - the first dropped in June 2023. It's JWK's first locking knife pattern.
- The black coating is indeed DLC.
- Those beautiful grinds are done by hand.
- Kirinite is basically a color streaked, stronger acrylic. It's more scratch resistant than ordinary acrylic. It's definitely not cheap, so it's noteworthy JWK does not upcharge for variants.
If you wanna take a look at their second, arguably even cooler locking design, the After Hours Jack, I can lend you a green kirinite/DLC one to look at. Let me know!
Very nice of you to say Tom, thank you!!
Thanks so much for checking these out!
Wow never seen purple kirinite that's crazy as many knives you have went through 😂 Thanks MC my man appreciate ya
Glad you like it!!
Great knives from a great company. Ben is also extremely active in his fb groups. Any problems that come up, either he or his team are insanely fast to rectify the issue. I’ll spend the money all day.
Ben is very secretive about the OEM he reminds me of you keeping your knifes OEM a secret too 😂😂😂!!! Hoping you and the bride are enjoying the new addition to your family!!!
😀
I’ve seen a distributor listed them as Reate. That would be my guess.
@@RegularJoeKnife they were wrong.
@BenBelkin😂
@@Zaque-TV 😎
I'm surprised Jack Wolf hasn't sent you knives already.. but yeah come to think of it, you haven't featured many slip joints as of late. You should check out the After Hours Jack locking knife with a sheepsfoot blade if one of your viewers has it and wants to lend it for review.
All he has to do is ask!!
@@BenBelkin no excuse now! Lol
@@iwrin truth!!
Love Jack Wolf knives! Ama,ing in your hand and I enjoy a good slipjoint! Nothing is overlooked. The packaging is amazing also!
Thank you Justin!!
Ayy! You finally checking out Jack wolf knives! They were primarily a slip joint company but recently, as of last year or so, got into making locking knives. Hope you like them
More locking knives to come!
That stonewashed textured titanium with blue hardware if 🔥. Purple is pretty nice too. I actually like the sub frame lock on the purple guy better.
Best modern slipjoints !!!
polished dlc would be awesome with that black one!
Man you aren’t wrong. But proper polished DLC is SUPER expensive. Because thy first have to mirror polish the blade and its time consuming hand labor.
Howdy, keep up the great content! Having been raised by my father, who was a machinist, I learned some terms from him. The texture on the scales of this knife is called knurling. Checkering is cut into wood. This isn't a criticism, just info.
I live in Oregon where (unbelievablely) we are allowed to carry autos and OTF knives. Are your viewers mostly in places where they can't? Any reviews on autos would be appreciated.
Hello! We call it checkering because it is inspired by checkered rifle stocks, but you are correct this could also be called knurling.
I’ve had one of the checkered TI ones in my cart for a few weeks now, just haven’t decided to pull the trigger yet. I’ve wanted to check out something from Jack Wolf for a little while now, and the Gunslinger hits all the right spots for me.
Let me know what you think if you decide to pull the trigger!
Don’t hold out, pick one up.. you’ll certainly be glad you did. I own several of the Gunslinger and After Hours and they are all phenomenal.
Finally! A Jack Wolf knife in MC's hands!! Lol should def check out the After Hours Jack as well
I think that's a great idea!!
Jack wolf makes the knives, gunslinger is the model. Jack Skelton has some on his channel.
Yes, we are the brand and the designers, but the knives are made in China. Jim Skelton has excellent reviews! Thanks for sharing.
I found out recently that Jack Wolf is based right here in Scottsdale AZ!
Yessir!!
Love the Gunslinger... Ive said this a million times but there is nothing else like it... Ive got V1 green fat carbon... and Ive got the V2 checkered ti... I wanted the Gold dark matter or the wooden one originally but they were sold out so I chose checkered ti... The fat carbon versions have a distinctive TING sound... its fkn great... I realised the checkered ti is alot more solid which negates the TING sound when opening... Its a great knife still... it just feels beefier and solid... Im still on a mission to try land that Gold dark matter version... Its hard... 🤣
Thanks Fred! Glad you love them! I just saw a gold at Deadwood Knives!
Finally!!! Been waiting to see MC look a a JWK forever🔥🔥🔥
Me too!
Oh I have been waiting for this.
Me too!!
Oh my goodness that purple 😍
Glad you like it! We have an awesome pink knife coming out next Friday ;).
Yay! You finally too the jump! JWKs are just....omg so good.
Thank you!!
Off topic but I just got my machinewise sonora and it’s an amazing knife!!
Those guys are awesome! They are local to us here in PHX and we are super stoked about what they have going on. Glad you supported them!
@LeftyEDC knows LOTS about JW designs!
He slides into my DMs often!
the dark matter sharp shooter is GOATED as far as looks are concerned , check that thing out
glad you like it!!
Thanks Derek!
You're welcome!
@@derekwedge09 Yes thank you!!
That first plain TI one looks like a kunwu to me.. the look of the scales I mean. But who knows.. nice knives though!
Both are beautiful, but that purple is amazing!
It's a bit shocking that 3 weeks ago you didn't really know the ins and outs of Jack Wolf 🤯
We still have work to do to spread the gospel!!
Those are both very handsome pieces!!!
Thank you! 🙏
Beautiful!
Love these! 🔥🔥
Thank you!!
Holy crap.love that purple. Nice full review😊
Thanks Mike!!
If at some point I could throw 350/400 on a knife Jack Wolf would be first on my list. I like how they vary from drop to drop. They all look fantastic to my eyes.
Thanks for the kind words and consideration!
@@BenBelkin nah obviously you are doing a great job. The hard part for me would be to choose one 😆
@@juanQuedo We pride ourselves in making that a difficult decision for you lol!
9.8 on the slap
Damn those are sick
Thank you!!
If only they had a reversible clip....
I am left handed so I understand your sentiment, but I chose not to do reversible clips as I do not want to have the a clip recess plug be visible on the opposite side. I don't like what it does to the aesthetic and it also drives up the cost. Not only that, some of my models would have to include 2 clips and 2 clip plugs if I were to do that. A bridge too far for me. One day I will do a dedicated lefty, this is the only way that is not a compromise.
@@BenBelkin I'm left handed too but swap my clip back and forth. My xm-18 is the only knife I have that isn't reversible, so it rarely gets used. I pretty much just use my SKAHA 2 since I got it.
@@CIVTASK right on brother. Or should I say, LEFT ON!
Jack wolf hasnt said who the oem is and theyve also said they cant say who the oem is but they have said its not reate
Hmm... I really hate it when OEMs do that
@metal_complex your not the only one. It's seems to be a thing that's returning is oems not being disclosed. Begg knives hasn't said who's there's is and the new field grade typhoon from sharp by design Brian Nadeau said the oem wanted to stay on the dl.
You are correct sir.
Jack Wolf’s OEM is Reate. Really cool designs although I wish he did more locking knives.
Jack wolf hasn't said who the oem is so your pulling info out of thin air. Jack wolf has said they can't say say who the oem is.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was Reate. They're known for that type of secretive behavior (I hate it)
@metal_complex ik they have but jack wolf debunked that theory when they first started putting knives out
@@metal_complex I veeeeeery much doubt it's Reate because JWKs have full titanium construction including pivots and internal hardware, and to the best of my knowledge, Reate simply doesn't offer that. Could be wrong, of course.
That is not correct. Reate made my prototypes but I switched when Reate couldn't meet their originally quoted production timing.
I was hoping you would tell me who the oem is 😄
Love the look of these knives. Not paying +$300 for a knife made in china.
Lol you're late to the game pal. Knives that cost $300+ from China have been selling for a very long time.
Catch up
Jack wolf won't say the oem. some say qsp. some say reate.
I doubt it's Reate because of the full titanium construction, which is something Reate does not offer as far as I know - they insist on using steel for internal hardware and pivots. As for QSP, enough diehard slipjoint fans have told me that QSP slipjoints and JWKs feel different enough that they really don't think they're made by the same company. My guess would be it's someone more obscure. Oh and we also know that JWKs have some fitment and finishing (and grinds) done by hand, so that rules out every company that doesn't do hand work, like Kansept.
@@TomGionJr Very insightful Tom! I can tell you are paying attention!
60-61 is higher end? Don't tell that to custom makers or companies that are doing 63-65hrc on s90v with incredible results. I think 60-61 is what companies should aim for with s90v, anything lower than 60 is wasted potential.
Vs what we normally see* was my point
Meow
i believe Rearte is the OEM
Reate is not the OEM
Reate is the oem. its not a well kept secret as some in the comments would like everyone to believe.
This is false. Reate is not the OEM
Fortnite battle pass
I'm a Helldivers Warbond guy.
cutting a thin piece of paper will not distinguish the edge thickness of a knife that's 0.01" vs 0.03". you're just testing sharpness. i think people would appreciate an actual measurement with a caliper
I actually point this out in evert single video I cut paper in. All I'm doing is letting people know how the edge "feels" out of the box. It's not scientific and it is consistently, explicitly stated that way
@@metal_complex You didn't here. Immediately after cut the paper you said "yeah this is pretty darn thin behind the edge", which cannot be determined from that alone.
@quoc1465 probably a bad choice of words. You're right. "Good" cutting geometry is vague the way I verbally define it.
The truth is they the reason i don't measure it is because it invites argument. I try to make sure people know I'm not a pro of anything. Taking edge geometry measurements will absolutely cause certain people to criticize what they perceived as "expertise" on the subject, and I've tried to avoid that over the years. I'll try and calibrate my wording
@@metal_complex Fair enough
Considering that these knives are made in China, I think they are overpriced.
The fact that they are limited series products keeps the prices artificially high.
Leaving these facts aside, I think the company produces extremely high-quality products, and whoever buys them will definitely be satisfied with them.
Thank you for the kind words about our products. Can you please elaborate on why you think they are over priced? Perhaps you are unaware of the price to manufacture at this quality level, plus the expense of utilizing dealer distribution. It really adds up fast. Regarding artificial scarcity, that is not accurate. All of our releases over the past year have been made in adequate quantities so that they are available in stock for a more than reasonable period of time.
@@BenBelkin Dear Ben!
Again, your products are great.
Of course, I have no idea about the costs, I can only compare the prices of other manufacturers with yours.
According to my values, the ceiling would be $300, which is the maximum acceptable price for me.
Including inflation.
The limited number of pieces is probably determined by the demand for the products and the slow production processes.
(I have a thorn in my eye because Vampire Jack is sold out , I'm from Europe)
I wrote these aspects from my point of view, I don't see behind the scenes, but I can only congratulate you on the results.
I hope one day I too find the JW knife that I say fits my budget and I certainly won't regret it.
Thanks for writing, it's not every day I chat with legends.
oem reate
OEM not Reate
Dang.
