Are the left and right braces what connects to the body mounts right by the inner fender wells? My braces are rotted and I'm curious if these are the braces I need since theyre connected to the trunk. (need to do this entire 7 piece resto as well) thanks!
There are four braces under the floor. The two you mention are the small braces which also house the body mount nut. These braces are welded to the inner wheel housing and truck floor. Then there are two long braces which are plug welded to bottom of floor and the gas tank hangs from these two braces.
I've been doingbthe same thing with my 65 your video helped me alot the middle pan looks like it has a lip to hold the left and right pan did you cut the middke one to size and but weld or did you get it to slide under the other 2 pans being you did left and right first
After putting all pans in and taken them out multiple times to ensure proper fitment, I placed the left pan first. Placed a few welds along the trunk drop off and the front and back edges. Then slid the middle pan under the edge of the left pan. Placed a few welds to hold in place and then set the right pan in place. I never trimmed the middle pan along the long edges. I placed weld the entire length of the overlap. I replaced all trunk pan braces and welded the long brace to underside of the middle pan on the right side. This helped hold the right pan up when set in place. Hope that helps. Btw all weld was cover with short strand fiberglass filler. Sanded with 80 grit. Top coated with thin body filler before epoxy, 2k primer and then painted body color with two coats of clear. Can’t tell at all where panels are welded together.
@@GbodyEthan84 I started with the left panel. This was a three section truck kit. I drilled holes along the left side where the pan rests on the trunk drop off. Also had welded the brace to the bottom of the pan. This is the brace that gets secured to the frame with bushing and bolt. I tightened that bolt to keep the pan in place. Then plug welded along the trunk drop off. After that I took a cut off wheel and cut along the front part of the pan where it was resting on the old pan. I did a butt weld but you could also use a lap weld. Do the same with the cut off wheel along the rear edge (the part that rests along the rear crossmember). Add the center section and secure using plug welds to the braces and do same with cutoff wheel front and rear. Then moved to the right section and used same method as on the left section. The sections are resting on the braces and a small inch piece of the old pan. That’s what held it up. When I cut the new pan and the old pan that was below it, I would only cut about 3 inch at a time. Add a tack weld to secure new pan to keep the new pan from falling down. Then cut and tack and keep doing this until section tacked in place.
Thanks for the help would you happen to have any pics of the drop off plates you made for the trunk pan

How did you hold it up while tacking it in place, trying to figure out how to hold my floor up in my 84 so I can tack it
