- A sometimes strenuous but fairly short hike (about four to six miles roundtrip) into one of the most beautiful valleys on Hawaii, aka The Big Island. At the time of this posting, hiking into Waipi'o Valley is officially illegal. Entry by vehicle is restricted to valley residents, island locals and tour companies.
Directions:
Set your map app for “Waipi'o Valley Lookout” which will take you to a parking area and small park with a great view of the valley and beach. If you choose to continue into the valley by foot, again, know that it is officially illegal to do so.
Thanks for the great information. I'm from Oahu and have been wanting to do this hike for a long time, but didn't want to tread anywhere we'd be unwelcome. My gf is also from big island born and raised but has since changed her county of residence to Honolulu so thought we'd wait for the trail to re-open. Now we may be re-considering lol
Tread lightly. That's all. We passed people we assumed to be residents, and they were quite friendly. Enjoy. It's a beautiful place.
