  • How do I cross pollinate my hibiscus flowers? Well, I have done a quick video of how I do it in my garden. I hope it helps you with your cross pollination.
    In this video I cross pollinate Cromwell with Johnny's Orange.
    None of these plants or seeds are for sale

    Thank-you so much Tracy for explaining the "How To's" to us.. I just found the Hibiscus Seed Pods that I had collected from Our Hibiscus before we Moved.. The Flowers "Literally" Stopped Traffic.. Sometimes we had to put supports in the ground to support the limbs, the Flowers were 12" the brance couldn't support the Flower..!(Little town 1 stop light, 1 RR 🚂 Track that only runs South bound, 3 Gas Stations/ store goods, 4 Churches, and 3 Cops) haahahahahahaha.) Pre-K School threw 12th was on the backside of our block) Sometimes the Kids would pick them or some of our other flowers; Roses,, Gladioli's, Tulips, none of the Morning Glories several different kinds.. walking home from school, some ask me for seeds, & some asked for a flower or two.. They were Gorgeous 😍 ❤ .. The BEST LOOKING FLOWERS IN TOWN!! They were a beautiful Red, and Dinner Plate Circumference, we measured'em.. I would like to have a large bed of them, if I can get them to grow, I would like to send you some, that is, "If you receive gifts from random people??
    So, I'd like

      That sounds like you had a wonderful plant, hopefully you can get more growing, I hear people comment about mine when they are walking by. Thank you for the offer, but I live in New Zealand and getting in plant material is very difficult because of the risk of bacteria on the plants or seeds, and not many people go through that process.

      Hi, it will take me a long time to find out the colour of the flower as they can take up to a year to be small plants and another year to flower. I am not in a very hot climate so things are slow. I am sure some other people have hot weather or heat pads and lights for them.

    Do you have to take the seeds out and plant them, or does it grow and bloom after the flowers drops off, you don’t have to plant seeds in a different plant pot.

    • @hardyshibiscusheaven977
      @hardyshibiscusheaven977  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes some flowers just don’t want to cross. I have that with some of mine. I use the pollen from that plant on others.
      I would have thought the Caribbean would be a great temperature for it.
      I cross pollinate a lot of flowers as the success rate isn’t good.
      If your neighbours have hibiscus, grab one of their flowers and try it on yours.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to film and explain this process. Very informative and well done.
    In general... between the pollen source variety and the recipient variety, does one or the other tend to be dominant for the resulting hybrid's color? For example, what 'might' you expect the resulting color for the cross you demonstrated in this video. And/or what might you expect had the cross been done in the opposite direction? Thanks again! 🌺🙏

    • @hardyshibiscusheaven977
      @hardyshibiscusheaven977  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The outcome can be very random. That is why it is important to label the seedlings and eventual plants with the mother and father as they may not look like them.
      Also within one pod there could be 16 seeds which could potentially turn out different, so taking cuttings is the only way to get true replicas.

      You won’t know until it flowers and each seed in a pod could produce a slightly different coloured plant.
      Often it is nature, but some I can work out. Make sure you label them with the parents names so you know where it came from
