I remember, as a kid of about 5 years old, seeing this video on MTV in America in 1991, followed by Jesus Jones "Right Here Right Now" and Primal Scream's "Loaded" . What a magical era in music.
EMF was one of the best early '90's bands. Saw them in Orlando around "92. They were incredible. At that time, these guys , Jesus Jones, Edie Brickell, etc...brought us a different kind of music than we were used to. he younger generation took up where mine left off. Damn I am getting old.

It wasn't strange to people in UK at the time. I also don't hear Damon Albarn of Blur in the style. That half whisper, lazy vocal if anything comes from Ian Brown of The Stone Roses and Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Both of which probably stem from Bernwrd Sumner of New Order. As well as that I can hear in that half-spoken 'the things....you say' bit something borrowed from Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks or even Hugh Cornwall of The Stranglers. Upon saying that, at the time, the vocal I felt was just a preamble to that MONSTER guitar riff.
