Empress Nara had her last child (Yongjing) at the age of 38 (1756).
In the series they look for the excuse of menopause, but in reality what affected the Empress was the loss of her two children.
For example, in real life (not in the series) Consort Ling died on February 28, 1775 at the age of 47.
The first daughter she had with Qianlong in 1756 died on the 9th of 1775, less than 10 days before her mother, her daughter was 19 years old.
The first Empress of Qianlong (Empress Xiaoxianchun) died on 8 April 1748, only two months after the death of her last son.
Empress Nara lost two of her three children, I don't think it's so much a hormological issue, it's more of a psychological issue.
I say that because the same pattern is repeated in several of Qianlong's wives, where they either die shortly after their children or are left terribly touched.
@@ElberethFessbeinder It wasn't about how Ling/Emperor feels. It's about what the empress going through menopause feels. If you watch carefully, Emperor never really was like care that the empress looked bad. He was potrayed as concerned about her health because she looked like she's somewhat sick, had been consuming controversial food for her youth and her mood swings are starting to cause her to be ruthless which is a big contrast to what he had known her for. For a woman with so much power on her hand, her mood swings due to the menopause were causing her to miss her judgement or in this case she was made to seemed so by her treacherous slave.
It's not much about the real history but the way the drama is written here. I am merely pointing out the age difference and menopause might be causing this.

I think that in the series they exaggerated everything, making Qianlong look like a faithful and devoted husband to Consort Ling
They also don't give much backstory to the Empress' supposed menopause.
The same thing happens with the character of Consort Rong, where she is barely mentioned for a few chapters, completely inventing her life.
So taking all of that can be summed up as Qianlong wanted to depose Empress Nara because she went insane from menopause, at least that reason is a bit debatable.
A bit of the story of Snow White.
