Glissa is also terrifying once you remember that a some of the big March of the Machines toxic creatures also have trample. So, now you need to put 8 creatures in front of Tyrranax Rex, because first strike + deathtouch + trample is a really scary combination.
You have no idea how important your new videos are to me. These last 2 weeks I've watched PRETTY MUCH every Video on your channel, All the old stuff from amonket/Ixalan/Fate reforged whatever. ALWAYS. NEED. MOAR. DEV.
Kami of Whispered Hopes was my mvp in prerelease. The tap for mana ability got out of control with backup support putting 2 counters on it each turn and then tapping for insane amounts of mana. I got Ghalta and Malvern out around turn 3-4 in most matches. Glad to see it on the list.
I pulled ragavan, atraxa, vorinclex, wrenn and realmbreaker, elesh norm, and a phyrexian crusader from a single set booster box! I’m excited and had to tell someone.
Botanical Brawler is going to be a thing... any +1 counter strategy is basically an auto include... lands that get counters, the OG Ozilith, It's +1 for each permanent... so it's almost a cathar's crusade lite on a stick.
Tech with Ephara's dispersal: if you swing in with a guy and your opponent uses Wandering Emperor, you can just unsummon your own guy back to your hand for 1
Played sealed Yesterday, i did put 2 flywheel racer in go wide knight UW, it helped a lot to stabilize manabase (splashing BR for a mythic, avoided being stuck at 3 mana coz i didnt draw lands and passed few Land drops), not to mention u often swing in with vigilance. Honnestly it felt good to use this card
I’m totally here for the reviews of old sleeper vids! Idk how their metrics do, but it’s some of my favorite content. Ultimately I’m going to click whatever vids Dev puts out, but I love the looking back at old videos.
1) I can see a good Golgari Phyrexian shell with the new lord, Glissa Sunslayer, Gix, and Sheodred, with the 5-mana Glissa as the top end finisher to give everything first strike and deathtouch. My test list only has 1 of her though, just due to the cost. 2) I 100% agree on the Halo Forager card. That card is amazing in the right Dimir control deck, and could easily let you recur a cheap kill spell in the midgame (eg. pay 4 for a 3/1 flying that re-casts a Cut Down), or something powerful in the late game (eg. pay 8 for an extra Invoke Despair). Also I would like to point out something that you missed on this card: it can target a spell in "A graveyard," not "YOUR graveyard." It can steal spells from the opponent's graveyard for you to cast, which is a pretty significant upgrade over just giving a spell in your graveyard flashback (which is probably a big part of why this doesn't have flash). 3) One card that I think you missed is Angelic Intervention. It's a strange, easily overlooked card that does two new things--it can give a creature or PLANESWALKER protection from a color or colorless. Giving a planeswalker protection is really unique, and the protection from colorless is a full out Giver of Runes effect for standard.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned (and that won me a commander game with playtest copies of some of the new cards) is the magic that is Jinnie Fay + Infect. That Progenitor Exarch starts looking even better when it's making X 5/5 cats with haste. Or Glistening Dawn making 2 6/6 haste cats on curve...
is it just me of Dev lost A TON of weight? after the scare last year (last year, right?) I am super happy to see you doing well! one of the best content creators for mtg, hands down.
you mentioned the lorcana video the other day, and just reaffirming that I would watch it lol and I'm still kinda interested. sick sleeper video as usual! nice hammy too
Another great card is Mirrodin Avenged. 1 black mana for destroy target creature that was dealt damage that turn AND draw a card. I feel like this card in a black/red deck would be insane not to mention for Pauper.
Also, for another common black card I have to say is a sleeper would be Corrupted Conviction. 1 black and creature sac to draw 2 cards. An amazing card in certain decks trying to fill their graveyard. 1 mana to draw 2 cards is insane.
Halo Forager compares unfavorably to both Goblin Dark-Dwellers and Arcane Proxy. 5 mana for a creature that flashbacks a 3 cmc spell is on rate, this is 6 mana to flashback a charm or 5 mana to flashback Go for the Throat. While Arcane Proxy is only 3 mana to flashback Go for the Throat. I just can't see a reason to play this over Arcane Proxy. I guess for the flexibility and the ability to flashback a 5 mana spell. Because for 7 mana Arcane Proxy can flashback 4cmc. Actually 8 mana to flashback Invoke Despair is interesting. I don't know if it's good because 8 mana is a ton but that being an option is cool I guess.
Final Flourish looks like a really solid common removal spell honestly. It probably won’t see play cause of go for the throat & Infernal grasp just being straight removal, but like sometimes you would like a sac outlet stapled to a removal spell. Invasion of New Capenna as additional copies of rite of oblivion looks pretty solid as well.
You officially gave away my draft picks. I currently have a mean harden scales deck. Two cards you mentioned one was a side note. But your picks are spot on. Keep making amazing content your awesome man. Also Ham is way too lovable.
Something to note is that with 500 products released every year, there aren't really sleepers. There's hype spikes, but everything is quickly forgotten. When the most valuable card is a reprint, they aren't even trying.
Does anybody else think Kor Halberd is kinda actually for real a good card? It's obviously not format-warping, but it looks kinda strong in Weenie style decks. Vigilance is criminally underrated already, but now you have to worry about defending battles, and we have a bunch of solid convoke cards, so I gotta figure Vigilance is pretty relevant in this standard context. (I am biased though, it's really a cube card to me.)
The only playable equipments in 2023 cost 1 to play and 1 to equip. Everything else is too slow. So yeah I think Kor Halberd is in the top tier, obviously worse than Shadowspear but that one was busted. Eater of Virtue didn't see play but vigilance might be more desirable than +2 attack in a set with convoke (and wandering emperor). I like it too. :)
The glissa is pretty strong. It works in many color combinations(only 1 symbol of each) and it's solid value for a 5 drop that snowballs. Also Halo Forager is a rogue, it's pretty obnoxious to now care about the oponent graveyard when he is playing dimir rogue.
At some point, it really looked like Ham was reading the card in front of him 😂 Wonder what card that was ... You have very cute pets, naming them after food, I am not so sure, however 😅
This set is a fun one, with cards that have abilities from the whole history of MTG. This is the real 30th anniversary set for me. Very powerful set too. Lots of broken cards. BTW, I love the new coffee break feature!
I was looking forward to the ONE set and have been having fun with it, and now I'm looking forward to the MOM set. It's been a while since I've actually have been looking forward to new sets. And these sleepers you have found might be fun to build a deck around
I don't think Archpriest of Shadows is a sleeper anymore after the LRRMTG PPR. Adam cast See Double on it and started making token copies of it with Brudiclad and using Jin-Gitaxias to chump and then reanimating him like 3 times. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen in a game of Limited, and swung the game in his favor from well behind his opponent.
Halo forager is absolutely a snap caster mage. It hits spells out of your opponents graveyard, so there’s even more potential utility there. No flash is not great, but a 3/1 flyer is incredible. Not sure how it will do in standard, but it should go into more edh decks than it ever will. Underrated powerful card.
He mentioned in the spoiler video where she came up that she looks like she's doing the ahegao face (and then he proceeded to make either the best or worst ahegao face impression I've ever seen, still undecided). Personally, I think she looks oddly.. cute? But not like a character I've ever seen before, per se.
Donating some to an orphanage is a great idea! Don't worry though, these aren't being trashed. I know the dog walks all over them in this video, and the cats sleep on them in others, but they'll still see plenty of play in my house. Once I own a card, I really don't care what condition it's in; I can just sleeve it and play it. Haven't sold a card in over a decade because I sold my collection in 2010 and I immediately realized it was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. All that said, I'll reiterate that donating cards to an orphanage is an amazing call. When I go through and resort these, I'll start a box for exactly that.
@@SBMTG thank you I see so many let MTG cards go to ruin. Many needy kiddos in tuff spots in life would love to have them I'm sure. Maybe even treasure them. Also if have to give to homes that adopt.
Halo forager is nice. Blue has already many ways of replaying spells from graveyard so it`s nothing new. But like later in the game it can replay like an invoke despair or something. Or early game some card draw or simple removal. But i think Corrupted Conviction will see some play. It`s a functional copy of Village Rites so in some formats you could build a deck around 8 village rites. Will there be a viable deck? Dunno. Will i try to build it? Definately :)
I was hyped when I read it, then realized it doesn't have haste so you can't go Burning-Tree Emissary, Flywheel Racer into a 1 drop. I think that alone makes it not strong enough for pioneer. But probably still somehwhat standard playable.
Sleepers are the best videos fo sho. I also love Kami of whispered hopes!!! Great for commander. Better than Vaper Snag though? FYI, check your mic levels Dev. It's popping and really hot.
I feel like nobody is talking about Inga and esika. If you squint it’s kinda like chulane which at least in commander is a menace. It gets you tons of creatures, draws you cards, and gets you big mana. That’s not even to mention the vigilance.
i'm running kami of whispered hopes in selesnya counters for standard, he's nutty. he gets any counters, you can pump clay champion to the moon when you tap him for mana.
I want to try playing Halo forager in Modern Mill, at the very least in the sideboard. It seems like strong tech vs cascade decks. At the very least, recasting removal or mill spells and leaving behind a flying blocker feels solid
Not sure who's the real star of this video, Ham or the hole in my shirt
I didn't see it until after you said. 😂
Ham. It's Ham.
It's ok. All my shirts have at least 4 holes.
They can be co stars
Do you actually talk to your dog about spoiler season cards? lol
It's so obvious Ham loves his dad
Everybody loves ham’s dad
I just want to say Dev your friendliness makes me happy and your positive attitude makes my day better. You are a champion of the common man!
If I ever have to put together a resume again, I'm using this. Some college, quick learner, has been called a "champion of the people"
I just noticed that Halo Forager says "from A graveyard"...holy cow! So you can use your opponent's graveyard instants and sorceries. 😯
Glissa is also terrifying once you remember that a some of the big March of the Machines toxic creatures also have trample.
So, now you need to put 8 creatures in front of Tyrranax Rex, because first strike + deathtouch + trample is a really scary combination.
Deathtouch+first strike is incredibly good, it's just a pity it's your turn only.
You have no idea how important your new videos are to me. These last 2 weeks I've watched PRETTY MUCH every Video on your channel, All the old stuff from amonket/Ixalan/Fate reforged whatever.
ALWAYS. NEED. MOAR. DEV.

I think Halo Forager is actually on par with Snapcaster; For an extra black to cast it, you're gaining access to every graveyard.
The coffee break had me cracking up!!😂😂😂
'With who knows what next week' I literally laughed so hard I scared my coworkers

Kami has mad synergy with Kenrith in EDH. Getting the mana back plus more potentially from giving it +1/+1 twice. Nice.
Winding Constrictor is 2 color dependent. The Kami is green... so all Selesnya commanders approve.
Very excited about you reviewing previous sleeper videos. I enjoyed the one you did like 7 or 8 months ago.
is it just me of Dev lost A TON of weight? after the scare last year (last year, right?) I am super happy to see you doing well! one of the best content creators for mtg, hands down.

Love the doggo content, good to see that little guy. Thanks for all of the content this season
Looking forward to your past sleeper review video. Also, thanks for Hamming it up this video!
HAM!!
I had no idea Dev had a doggo! 🎉🎉🎉
You’re really branching out there brother! Glad to see the menagerie growing!
Loved the coffee break, thanks!
Definitely wanna see Dev reviews Dev! Cheers and keep up the awesome stuff😊

White green at my prerelease went hard and was so fun
Despite having almost no rares in it
Final Flourish looks like a really solid common removal spell honestly. It probably won’t see play cause of go for the throat & Infernal grasp just being straight removal, but like sometimes you would like a sac outlet stapled to a removal spell.
Invasion of New Capenna as additional copies of rite of oblivion looks pretty solid as well.
wait what!? the cards on the couch aren't a blanket with a bulk of card printed!! :O
Wow, your new cat is massive!!
Love the coffeebreaks
You officially gave away my draft picks. I currently have a mean harden scales deck. Two cards you mentioned one was a side note. But your picks are spot on. Keep making amazing content your awesome man. Also Ham is way too lovable.

Sleeper reviews sound awesome!
That dog Is awful cat-like tho.
Also adorable.
It's my favorite magic channel's favorite magic channel!
I love Ham, i need more.
"The shrubbery that's in to skull duggery"
ah the birth of a new video.
Best coffee break segment yet.
Botanical Brawler works amazingly with two of them out btw
Buffing each other mega quick..
Love devs content. The singular reason I care to keep up with magic.
In your defense Ham is a somewhat cat-like dog.
The Prof video might see more views, but I enjoy your more. Keep trucking.
The more I look at halo forger, yeah I think you're right! Appreciate the insight c:
Burning Sun's Fury is definitely a fun card with Monastery Mentor in some jeskai spell slinger deck
One card that be kind of sleeper is Invasion of Pyrulea, since there are so many doubleface cards running around right now with NEO and MOM

I like it too. :)
That dog is so cute.
I just came home after finishing my last exam of the week and this Sleeper list will cure my broken soul.
Heck yeah! Deep Spawn was great! I miss that card. Combo it with Gaea's Blessing and you never mull out. Awesome!
The glissa is pretty strong. It works in many color combinations(only 1 symbol of each) and it's solid value for a 5 drop that snowballs. Also Halo Forager is a rogue, it's pretty obnoxious to now care about the oponent graveyard when he is playing dimir rogue.
Reviews of sleeper cards are always fun

Dev and the Ham! In the morning!
Old sleeper ratings would be cool
First time I've bought cards in bulk since Shadows Over Innistrad. I'm really excited for this set.
Ham and chicken are the the tippy top of the baddest mf sleepers on the list…..of any list. Incredible

Gentleman of culture, who does archpriest of shadows look like? I must know!
Well done Dev, enjoyed the sleepers, puppy, & choice couch card pulling skills
Feeling a bit sad, but now have a Dev vídeo to make me feel better 🙂
You're not the only one. It's going to be ok though
Dez clean up cards donate them to a shelter, adoption agency, or orphanage. Don't just trash um.🥺 Love ya great video as always 👍👍👍
Donating some to an orphanage is a great idea! Don't worry though, these aren't being trashed. Surprised your cards survived the video, my dog steals them off the desk and chews them up if I leave them within reach :p
The art for Dreadship is metal AF, and it deserved a better card.,
I love your number 1 pick, I think that card will be amazing in multiple formats. It already has a home in 4 of my commander decks
The best description I've read of Flywheel Racer is "springleaf drum, but you can also attack with a 3/2".
Is it good? Maybe? I've seen a lot worse.
I was hyped when I read it, then realized it doesn't have haste so you can't go Burning-Tree Emissary, Flywheel Racer into a 1 drop. I think that alone makes it not strong enough for pioneer. But probably still somehwhat standard playable.
I still think you should be sending out the couch cards... love the content keep it up

I've been here since ixilan and didn't know you had a dog!
Wait how many hardened scales did they print in this set? I put my head down for one minute with this game and suddenly I’m completely lost.
I've seen kami meantioned, but as Clear cutter 4-8 for that combo.
I literally thought that was a cat
Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? … is that Jimmy from South Park lol 8:57
Dogs! I welcome this development
Dev, if you could stop being massively entertaining and charismatic, that would be greatttttttt.
Can someone please comment what the song is that Dev has sampled in the intro? I think its from a Zelda game but not sure.
all good, found it! It's Chrono Trigger.
Who does arch priest of shadows look like?
+10 hammie & +1 coffee break
Ham sets one card facedown and passes turn
for edh pretty sure city on fire will be .........
hot
My favorite videos on your channel have got to be the sleeper videos
i'm running kami of whispered hopes in selesnya counters for standard, he's nutty. he gets any counters, you can pump clay champion to the moon when you tap him for mana.
Another entertaining one , Dev. Keep up the good work. Who cares about magic cards when there's a good boi?
Oh my GOD, HAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A MINUTE OLD DEV VIDEO
I came for Ziggy and got Chicken and Ham...
If there is ever a top 10 without HM now, I fully expect a number 0. Or both.
I think I was able to see who you meant by the priestess. The bathwater selling entrepreneur? 😂
Where is your TCGplauer affiliate link?
You know you wanna make a Hardened Scales/Roaring Earth Aspirant deck. Oh look. He's attacking me with a 7/7 Aspirant on turn 3.
You need to comb that cat.. it's mad shedding.
I want to try playing Halo forager in Modern Mill, at the very least in the sideboard.
It seems like strong tech vs cascade decks.
At the very least, recasting removal or mill spells and leaving behind a flying blocker feels solid
