😄 Loved how you described reading middle grade or young adult! Your so right! Sometimes I need something lighthearted and hopeful to brighten me up in between the intense, dark books.
When I was in 6th grade I read a Margaret Peterson Haddix novel called Running Out of Time, and it threw me into the world of loving reading. I always liked it and enjoyed it but that book blew my mind and made me realize that reading can actually change your life. It’s cool to see that she’s still writing awesome novels for kids because that was 13 years ago that I read it.
I love short whimsical books for reading slumps. Two favorites that come to mind are “The house in the Cerulean Sea” and “The Girl who Fell Beneath the Sea”
Great recommendations! I'm personally not sure that "Piranesi" is the best choice when it comes to reading slumps, though, of course, it's an incredible story, as you know (and I know it because you mentioned it in other videos), this book bites in the beginning haha
I just started reading again since I was a kid and I’ve been binging your videos and book tube in general 😂. In the last week I read the Paris apartment, love and other words, and verity and I absolutely love them all. Thinking of reading the seven and a half deaths of Evelyn hardcastle next. 😃
Love YA and middle grade books. I appreciate your site for books. You are my go-to. I work in a 5th-6th grade school, have an 11 and 16 year old daughters. We love sharing book reads that we can have a read and share. Thank you.
:D This video was recommened to me and I love how you talk about books and I subscribed immediately! I"m looking forward to checking out your other videos :D
As always, thanks for the great recommendations! I enjoyed Finlay Donovan Is Killing It and I totally agree about Middle Grade books to get out of a slump. 😃
I have read a lot of these and they are great recommendations. I read Heartstopper this morning. I'll check out Fence since you speak so highly of it. I am currently listening to The Strangers with my kids. I need to get on Mistborn. I haven't felt ready to tackle it yet but EVERYONE seems to love it. Thanks for the great content.
Lexi, your first reading slump video actually was the first I ever saw on your channel and it was my introduction to Booktube. I will forever be grateful that it was suggested to me! Lately, "Scythe" almost put me in a reading slump, but I was able to battle it with "Ghosts" from Dolly Alderton. Highly recommend that one!
oh and im legit binging all of ur hauls and wrap ups from the beginning lol u are def my fave booktuber ever, so glad i found u, i can relate to u so much we have the exact same tastes and personality which is so rare and refreshing❤
I just hauled Finlay Donovan is Killing It, and I can't wait to give it a try. Piranesi is another one that has been on my radar though I haven't picked it up yet. Great suggestions!
Ehrmehgerhd, Lexi. I recently read Piranesi (it went on my TBR after one of your videos) and I loved it so much. I actually went on a small slump after reading it because I needed a couple of days to process it. It was just that good. I've recommended it to two good friends, who both also just completed it, and it was just what they needed for that moment. One friend has been dreaming about the book.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks at school (teacher here), and this video brought so much joy and peace to my week. Thank you so much for the recommendations.
Okay so I wasn’t in a reading slump but I just started “darling girl” 2 days ago and I cannot put it down. I’ll be done with it most likely by tomorrow. I highly recommend it.
I loved both The Thursday Murder Club and Finlay Donovan is Killing It, but I loved the second books in each series even more! Some of my favorite reads of the year so far!
😀😀😀My new favorite book channel! My TBR list is growing SOOO fast! I’m 50 and have never read a graphic novel but really want to. I just don’t know where to start. I’m thinking “Fence” just might be it-sounds fabulous (and I even took fencing as my P.E. In college.🤣) Thanks for these fantastic videos!
I'm currently reading Howl's Moving Castle for the first time and I love it so much! All of the characters are wonderful and I feel like I too am living inside the castle listening to Calcifer grumble, Sophie bustle around, Michael at the work bench, and Howl primping in the bathroom.
I love the Finlay Donovan books so much! If you like dark thrillers, I would recommend Pretty Stolen Dolls by Ker Dukey (first book in a series). Other thrillers I love and would highly recommend are The Last Mrs. Parris by Liv Constantine, Creep and Freak by Jennifer Hillier (Freak picks up where Creep leaves off and I didn't want these books to end), The Lost by Natasha Preston, and Perfect Days by Raphael Montes. For horror, I would recommend The Troop by Nick Cutter, Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie, and Housemates by Iain Rob Wright. 😀
Thank you for this list as I am in the biggest slump of all time please stay safe and enjoy your reading 📖 love you and your amazing channel love your number one Australia fan John xxxx
Good recommendations. I would recommend 'Josh & Hazel's Guide to Not Dating'. It was fast-paced and their chemistry was amazing! However, I wouldn't personally recommence The Thursday Murder Club. I found it quite slow, dragging, messy and the plot was very confusing. It didn't live up to it's potential in my opinion.
OMG this is such a perfect timing, Lexie! I was just in a reading slump and I was DNFing every book I tried to read, but I randomly remembered a recommendation about S.T. Abby's Mindf*ck Series AND OH MY GOODNESS, I SPED THROUGH THOSE BOOKS IN A DAY. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!
Love these recommendations! I'm currently reading Howl's Moving Castle after finishing the Throne of Glass series! Definitely a great "in between" or reading slump book!
With Piranesi, DONT RESEARCH ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEFORE READING!!!! go into it without knowing anything, because you want it to be a true mystery. It's amazing. I read it at the beach, and it really added to the atmosphere!
I loved this video! I also love to read middle grade or books with adaptations when I am in a slump. Also Sanderson never fails! I am so excited to try out Sourdough because I have always been curious about it but never read it before. ☺️
i've been in such a bad reading slump for the last month or so, it's been ridiculous. i decided to reread one of my favorites which has seemed to help BUT definitely want to check out some of the titles you mentioned in this video. with how much you've spoken about fence recently that's definitely at the top of my list 😂
Fully agree with Mistborn! I read the whole series, it is one of my favorites. I'm currently reading Warbreaker, a standalone also by Brandon Sanderson, and was a little concerned at the page count, but I love the characters and it also has similar pacing to Mistborn #1. Brandon Sanderson has a way with pacing. Except Elantris...his first ever published, I liked it, but the pacing was definitely not how he writes now.
😀 A Woman of Substance by Barbara Taylor Bradford got me out of a reading slump that lasted a couple years. It is a 7-8 book series about a girl who ends up pregnant at 16 in England. She leaves the town she’s in and goes to Leeds to make a life and ends up building an empire and it’s her life and her family and it is soooo good! The first book is 600-700 pages but so worth it!
I discovered your channel yesterday and I am so fucking happy. I have watched only 2 of your videos but you gave amazing recommendations in both and I look forward to hearing what else you can recommend! I read The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe because of this video and I can't thank you enough for recommending it. I bought and read it in less than 24 hours.
Very new viewer here! Love your energy and obsessed with your videos. Just got back into reading and I swear that the majority of my TBR are recommendations from you...oop🤣
I am currently reading Howl’s moving castle! It is so cute! After finishing the book I’m going to rewatch The anime!😊 Childhood…😇 Thanks for the video!🙏🏻
Oopsie-poops, sorry I am 2 days late watching this video! I have been busy studying for my theory test which I finally passed the 5th time today! Now it's time to relax and have fun watching your videos and others too
If you really enjoyed Fence may I recommend the k-drama Twenty-five Twenty-one. It follows a high school fencer who at the beginning of the drama is really struggling. She has an idol that she really looks up to and her dream is to someday become her rival and have her idol consider her competition . After her school decides to shut down the fencing team due to finance issues, she decides to transfer to the school where her rival goes. There she meets her idol but is unpleasantly surprised and they basically start to hate each other. The second perspective that it follows is a 21 year old college dropout who’s struggling to make a living after his family went bankrupt. It’s a really good k-drama and the way that you described Fence sounded soooo much like it that I knew you would love it. It also convinced me to pick up Fence after putting aside for a couple of months :))
😀 I’ve been on a behind the scenes history sort of kick lately so I just finished The Lady From The Black Lagoon by Mallory O’Meara and found it fascinating. It’s about Millicent Patrick who worked for Disney on animating Fantasia and created the look of the creature in the movie Creature From the Black Lagoon and had her credit and job taken from her by a jealous boss.
240, right? LOL And, I think I have 25 videos left to watch from now on. I may be able to watch them all today if I keep it up the way I've been doing it. We shall see. With my luck, there will be 3 left when I have to stop tonight. LMAO We'll see soon enough. I think I have Final Empire on Audible. If I manage to finish the 3-4 books I'm listening to now (or was it just 2 books now?), I will be able to listen to FE in Cali. Howl's Moving Castle was on sale on Audible a few days ago, but I have no money now, so I was not able to buy it. I really wanna read it! I hope it's great!!! Finlay Donovan is one I'd like to read, too, but not sure when I will get to it. If I get it soon, I hope I love it! Also, I don't remember what book it was that got me out of a reading slump. It was not a super long time ago, either. Maybe one day I will remember. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Great Video Lexi and the book I’m currently reading is Ash Princess By Laura Sebastian and I’m absolutely loving it and best part it’s a trilogy which I love 🥰🥰 And before I started this book I just finished The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter and I absolutely loved it I Highly Recommend it I think you would enjoy it too and it’s a duology btw I already purchased the second book of Amazon Lol 😂 Have a Wonderful Day and Happy Reading 📖 😃
😀 Your videos always brighten my day. Your recommendations are always on point. I would also recommend "The Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes. That pulled me out of a 2 month reading slump
Two books I've read recently that I think would bust a reading slump: The things we cannot say (historical fiction that alternates between present day family & family history, has a mystery, realistic but, heartwarming relationships.) The Inheritance Games (YA thriller/mystery, short chapters, compared to Knives Out.) Currently reading 2nd book in this trilogy.👍Thank you for the video, Lexi 💖Added some titles to my neverending TBR📚📚📚
The book that got me out of a reading slump several years ago and rekindled my love for reading is Harmony Black by Craig Schaefer. I guess it would be considered an urban fantasy. It was a free book through Kindle Firsts with Amazon Prime. I didn't know it at the time, but the Harmony Black series is actually a companion series to the Daniel Faust series. Even though I read the Harmony Black series first, it didn't alter my enjoyment of it. It was also great to go back a read the Faust series and learn more about characters I enjoyed in the Harmony Black series. I have since read all the books by Craig Schaefer. If you haven't read any of his books, I highly recommend them.
I loooove a Lexi-video 😊 I definitely agree with Howl's Moving Castle (my favourite!) and illuminae. Just finished Gemina recently! What I usually do in a reading slump is trying making reading a game. I will read one chapter and do a chore and then reading another chapter and so on and so on. I think it is fun to see how much I get done both in my house and with my book. Right now I read three books and switch them after a chapter. I don't have time to be bored with the book and often am a bit disappointed with having to leave it which makes me finally crave reading it. Hope that made sense and someone can use this tip. It at least helps me 😊
Lexi please read The Secret Garden on 81St St! It’s such a heartwarming middle grade graphic novel adaptation I love it so much 😊 could you recommend me a ya contemporary? Maybe similar to I’ll give you the sun?😊
😃 I'm in such a strange place reading wise lately. It took me a month to read a physical book but I've smashed through six audiobooks in that time. I'm slumping right now physically, but not audibly if that makes any sense? I will use thislist to hopefully break that!
Hex Life got me out of a big reading slump. Group of short stories by assorted authors with a witchy theme, really grabbed my attention & now got me into anthologies!
I only have The Final Empire available to read (or, to listen to, actually) right now, but I've been avoiding it because I've been focused on physical books since I bought my books for the new library. However, I've seen this book mentioned lately too many times to ignore it much longer. I will try to spend a month in the summer just listening to audiobooks because of this book. Thanks for the inspiration! Don't forget that you have "The Forget-Me-Not Summer" by Leila Howland on your summer TBR. I really wanna know what you think of it. I'm still not far (on chapter 19 and that's not 100 pages into the book just yet, but 2 pages less). I feel like it's gonna take me years to finish it because of this slump. I'm gonna try to finish it this summer, though. This is my first reading slump and no book has gotten me out of it yet. I also have not been reading much lately. However, I did read and finish a book called Boot, can't remember the whole title but Jade's sister got it in the video where Jade took her sisters and mother shopping for books. I enjoyed it and the more I read it, the more I wanted to know what would happen. I have the next book in that series, but not sure where I put it at this time. Probably in my backpack because I'm an idiot. Also was planning to read that book right after finishing the first one and I was out for a few days... I hope you have an amazing weekend! Lots of reading to do, and maybe some sightseeing if you're into that...
I LOVED The Thursday Murder Club! Such a good fast paced thriller but the characters are so heartwarming and truly made me laugh. I thought the second book in the series was even better so highly recommend picking up that one too!
Something about not taking knowledge for granted..perhaps Piranesi falls into that category...Maybe other books do to but it was done in such a magical way!
I just picked up a copy of the Tuesday Murder Club! Not sure when I'm gonna get around to reading it as I'm up to my ears with dissertation reading, but if you ever want to do a buddy read let me know😊Finlay Donovan will 1000000% end any reading slump, it's so engaging and fun!
I have Illuminate and for some reason have been intimidated to start....sci-fi?🤷♀️But I've heard others say to go for it. Thanks for mentioning this one👍
😄 Loved how you described reading middle grade or young adult! Your so right! Sometimes I need something lighthearted and hopeful to brighten me up in between the intense, dark books.

Finlay Donovan is Killing It is great. The 2nd in the series is good too.
I just started reading again since I was a kid and I’ve been binging your videos and book tube in general 😂. In the last week I read the Paris apartment, love and other words, and verity and I absolutely love them all. Thinking of reading the seven and a half deaths of Evelyn hardcastle next. 😃

Girl this is helping. I'm in a really bad reading slump and slight depression sucks. 😔 So thank you.
:D This video was recommened to me and I love how you talk about books and I subscribed immediately! I"m looking forward to checking out your other videos :D
I do agree about graphic novels helping with reading slumps!! And ohhh I haven’t read Fence yet, but now I want to pick it up 😍👀
“Finley Donovan is killing it” sounds great! 😃
Putting it on my neverending TBR. I need some humor🤣
I loved it! I’ve heard some people complain that it’s not realistic enough, but to me that was kinda the point. It’s so funny!
I love One of Us is Lying I think it is so underrated. It has some of the best character development I've ever read and I love them all so much
One of Us is Lying is one of my favorite books!
As always, thanks for the great recommendations! I enjoyed Finlay Donovan Is Killing It and I totally agree about Middle Grade books to get out of a slump. 😃
😃 love these recs!!!!! Just started the Paris apartment this morning!
😁😁 i love your recommendations! I really loved GreenGlass house 😍

I need to try The Paris Apartment out! Just starting The Guest List now and I'm very excited 💜
Percy Jackson and the Olympias and basically any Rick Riordan book does the trick for me! 🔱
I haven’t read Sourdough yet but I loved their other book Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. I own Sourdough…I should move it up my tbr list.
:) highly recommend city of thieves by david benioff , that book made me fall in love with reading again
Highly recommend that one!
oh and im legit binging all of ur hauls and wrap ups from the beginning lol
u are def my fave booktuber ever, so glad i found u, i can relate to u so much
we have the exact same tastes and personality which is so rare and refreshing❤
I just hauled Finlay Donovan is Killing It, and I can't wait to give it a try. Piranesi is another one that has been on my radar though I haven't picked it up yet. Great suggestions!

Omg me too!! Stay strong until the end of the year - you got this!
Okay so I wasn’t in a reading slump but I just started “darling girl” 2 days ago and I cannot put it down. I’ll be done with it most likely by tomorrow. I highly recommend it.

Fence actually did get me out of my reading slump recently! I really enjoyed it and can't wait for vol 5 this summer 🤍
great recommendations💛 one of us is lying is so good and i'd also recommend the silent patient and central park
I love the Finlay Donovan books so much! If you like dark thrillers, I would recommend Pretty Stolen Dolls by Ker Dukey (first book in a series). I still jam out to your intro song every single video. 💃🏻 😂
I am so curious about Piraneesi and the mistborn trilogy. Thank you for all the wonderful recommendations :D
I added some of these books to my pick up list. Thank you 😊
OMG this is such a perfect timing, Lexie!
Thank you so much for the recommendations! I can''t wait to read Heart Stopper! I'm want to watch the show after 😁
With Piranesi, DONT RESEARCH ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEFORE READING!!!! go into it without knowing anything, because you want it to be a true mystery. It's amazing. I read it at the beach, and it really added to the atmosphere!
I loved this video! I also love to read middle grade or books with adaptations when I am in a slump. Also Sanderson never fails! I am so excited to try out Sourdough because I have always been curious about it but never read it before. ☺️
I was JUST watching the video you posted a year ago about this last night! What!!! Answering my prayers ☺️🥹
I still need to read The Strangers and Fence. I just already have such a large tbr! 😀
i've been in such a bad reading slump for the last month or so, it's been ridiculous. i decided to reread one of my favorites which has seemed to help BUT definitely want to check out some of the titles you mentioned in this video. with how much you've spoken about fence recently that's definitely at the top of my list 😂

The fence graphic novel series just also had two novels published too, so I'd recommend you pick those up aswell!
nice vid I added 4 of this books to my tbr😁
Yay I’m glad you found some you liked!
😃 love your content. Swear we have very similar taste in reading so I find joy in your videos.
Yesss Thursday Murder Club is great for getting out of a slump! In got me out of mine at the start of the year 😊
The Illuminae Files are so good! I finished the last one in one sitting and the others are just as good!
THIS COULDN’T HAVE CAME AT A BETTER TIME! I’m in such a big reading slump, it’s like you read my mind
YAYYYY!!! But also I’m sorry for the slump pal 😭😭😭
Thank you for this video Lexi! Would you be able to make an updated middle grade recs video? ❤️❤️❤️😀

Hello there
Just discovered your channel! Thanks for such great content 😊✍🏻
I discovered your channel yesterday and I am so fucking happy. I read The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe because of this video and I can't thank you enough for recommending it. I bought and read it in less than 24 hours.

😁 just start getting into the girl who fell beneath the sea by axie oh. Really good so far.
I've heard great things about The Girls I've Been and Finlay Donovan, I need to check them out! Also, The Thursday Murder Club also sounds so good!
I currently dnf Crescent City (the first book) because it got me into a massiv reading Slump.
I needed this video💯❤
This was much needed! I've been struggling to stay invested in my books 😊
😃 My favorite way to get out of a reading slump is to read childhood favorites. For me, this means rereading the Fear Street book by R.L. Stine. 😃
I think I'm finally convinced to pick up Piranesi again😀
Very new viewer here! Love your energy and obsessed with your videos. Just got back into reading and I swear that the majority of my TBR are recommendations from you...oop🤣
Omg thank you so much for saying that Kristin!!!❤️❤️❤️
@@alexandraroselyn Also 😄
Yeah I used to be a student librarian but now in my mid 20s. We have a similar vibe I'd like to think 🤗
There you are!!! Just in time when I needed a dose of serotonin ..
Sourdough is my favorite book of all time! Whenever I'm in a slump, I go right to that book.
I am currently reading Howl’s moving castle! It is so cute! After finishing the book I’m going to rewatch The anime!😊 Childhood…😇 Thanks for the video!🙏🏻

😀
Your videos always brighten my day.
Just started Finlay Donovan is killing it
😃 I'm in such a strange place reading wise lately. It took me a month to read a physical book but I've smashed through six audiobooks in that time. I'm slumping right now physically, but not audibly if that makes any sense? I will use thislist to hopefully break that!
The Girls I've Been is one of my favorite books!
😉👍 Love your channel & your recommends. Keep going 🎩Hat Queen.
Ooo I needed this video!!! 🥳
Hex Life got me out of a big reading slump. Group of short stories by assorted authors with a witchy theme, really grabbed my attention & now got me into anthologies!
Yes I’m going to pick all of these to help be. Thank you beautiful…… I loved this video…….
Colleen Hoover books are great for getting out of a reading slump. 💕 my favorites are Ugly Love, It Ends With Us and November 9.
I loved your list despite my type being 'fast movies & slow novels... 💞💞💞
I had to read One of Us is Lying my senior year of high school and FELL IN LOVE. It is 100% mf fav thriller so far.
Something about not taking knowledge for granted..perhaps Piranesi falls into that category...Maybe other books do to but it was done in such a magical way!
Omg yes!! I completely agree❤️
Let’s buddy read😭❤️
I definitely agree with Heartstopper because they are so quick and easy to get through and I absolutely love them ❤❤❤❤❤

I have Illuminate and for some reason have been intimidated to start....sci-fi?🤷♀️But I've heard others say to go for it. Thanks for mentioning this one👍
Great video!! I wouldn’t recommend the Thursday murder club personally, it isn’t a fast paced thriller it’s more quaint and cozy
