Beluga Whale Sanctuary: Move update 29th September 2023

  • We're pleased to share that Little Grey is recovering well from her stomach ulcers diagnosed earlier this year, for which she has been receiving ongoing treatment in the Sanctuary’s landside care facility. The ulcers may have been caused by a number of factors, but thankfully the course of treatment administered by the whales’ dedicated care team and third party veterinarians is working as expected and we expect her to make a full recovery.
    Treatment of Little Grey’s condition will continue, and due to the ongoing nature of this treatment and the length of time required to help both whales build up their fitness and stamina for their move as part of the Little Steps programme, we have had to make the difficult but right decision to postpone the whales’ return to the sanctuary’s outdoor care pools until next year.
    This is disappointing news for everyone involved, yet our priority is always to put Little Grey and Little White’s welfare first. It is vitally important that we allow the whales to have the necessary amount of time to acclimatise in their natural surroundings before winter begins and, with that window having now passed, it is best to focus on the preparation of Little White and Little Grey for next year.
    Our long-term goal for Little Grey and Little White to live in the open-water sea sanctuary throughout the year has not changed and, with the support of their dedicated welfare team and third-party experts, we will continue to help them to be ready for moving back to the bay next year as they continue on their Little Steps programme.

    Thank you Sealife Sanctuary for this update. Little White and Little Gray hold a special place in so many hearts all across the world and all of us that care so deeply for these amazing animals are grateful for the incredible care they are receiving. I'm not disappointed at all because their well being is the top priority and as the first attempt to allow them some freedom in a natural environment is well worth the ups and downs because I know someday they will be in their sea pen which will lead to other beautiful animals trapped in fish bowls for the purpose of money making entertainment will also be moved to sea pens and the great example of the whale sanctuary project will ensure the survival of these magnificent animals to have some form of freedom for the rest of their lives 🐳❣

    Thank you so much for taking good care of them. I am from Shanghai, where little grey and little white came from. I love marine animals and raise up my boy to be an animal lover. No matter how crazy we love those amazing creatures, we never went to see animals show! Animal shows is never, ever been ok in our believe. We went on the sea in Vancouver and meet humpback whale and orcas, such an extraordinary experience. They deserves to live in their home, ocean! Sadly we still have belugas, orcas and other marine animals in Marinland, Niagara Falls Canada, please help them. They are literally dying 😢

      so happy to find a kindred spirit in these comments! i too will never watch any animal shows and always encourage my family members and friends to think twice before doing so. sadly, while the west is now slowly ending whale captivity and breeding, it broke my heart to find out that china has recently opened several marine parks around the country that have lots of captive cetaceans for performance shows. feels like their suffering will never end and there’s no hope for all the captive ones to be ever free 😢

    I feel sad when I have to see whales or orcas performing in aquariums..I want to see them live in the sea with their natural freedom..Belugas are so cute. I love all the whales..❤❤❤I followed Hvaldimir, a beluga in Norway, and I felt very sorry for him following the ship and wanting to be close to humans. And it has no family or friends. It must be very lonely..and it is very difficult for whales that were previously kept for performing for many years to be able to return to their lives and hunt for food on their own..Why are people selfish? They use whales to work hard and put on shows for money.

    Release these whales into the ocean once and for all and they will survive or at least die with dignity. I would like these criminal owners of these water parks all over the world to experience the same indescribable suffering that these animals in this degrading spectacle suffer and be sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2x2 cell, without being able to leave it. Animal torturers are also all those who pay to watch this shameful torture.

      Listen, I am with you regarding the crime of coffee cup captivity, HOWEVER, surely you must understand that these people are doing the very best for the whales. If her stomach ulcers can be healed, she'll have a better quality of life, and it will be longer. I'd hate to think of one of these girls dying unnecessarily leaving her sister behind. Cheers.

      @@fastgurrrl Young lady, understand: we already know that the whales are being treated after being tortured for so long in a water park. After being cured, they should be released into the ocean and not into a slightly larger prison. They will survive, they are smarter than you think.

      @@mxblyxkyThink they're ready to meet wild belugas again? Can they catch their own prey now?

    • @mxblyxky
      @mxblyxky 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@CoreyMillionaire2029 Savage belugas, as they all should be, will not harm them. As for prey, after brief training with live fish they are intelligent enough to survive in their natural habitat. So far I haven't heard any comments from these vets that they will release them in the future. The word "sanctuary" to me is nothing more than a bigger prison.

      @mxblyxky 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@angh18 Exactly the torture of wild animals in captivity, I have already commented on this, there is no need to repeat it. I have also mentioned the "sanctuary" where they are trapped and need to be released into the ocean after being treated. Have you been drinking?
