  • A beluga whale that may have been outfitted with a camera for spying showed up in Hammerfest, Norway, in 2019. Since then, he has been embraced by members of the community, who named him Hvaldimir. Now, his people are working to make sure he has a safe, fulfilling life.

I remember the first time I saw a beluga. I couldn't believe it was real. They are such magical looking creatures. Indeed, like something from a comic book. And so intelligent.

This is such a precious little soul! I hope Valdemir will finally be amongst other Beluga whales so he can lead the life he was supposed to!
I just watched a couple of videos here on TH-cam about Little Gray and Little White, two sibling Beluga whales, who were rescued from a sealife park after being imprisoned there from the time they were little calves. They had been stolen from their mother 10 years before and taken to China to entertain humans in that sealife park. Little White and Little Gray were rescued and taken about three years ago to a Beluga sanctuary in Iceland and seem to be doing very well now.

The harsh truth about Hvaldimir is this: He is a tamed whale, not a wild whale. He has been in Norway now for FOUR years and nothing has really changed. He spends the vast majority of his time at salmon farms and sleeps under boats. He continues to get injured. He remains ALONE, well over 1,000 miles from other belugas. AND he was last seen heading towards a highly populated city which puts him in even greater danger.
All of our experts - including some of the top whale scientists in the world - agree that if he is not protected in a reserve, THIS WILL NOT END WELL. We are not willing to lay silent and let that happen.
With love, imagination and support we can create a safe protected area for him. We can help to rehabilitate him and eventually attempt to release him into a wild beluga population where he can have a family of his own again. And we can help many other formerly captive whales in the process. We call upon the country of Norway to step in and help become a champion for this important cause.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to our campaign to get a van for Team Hvaldimir. We are still short of the funds needed so please consider supporting this important need we have so we can continue our work! ----PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING TEAM HVALDIMIR BY DONATING TO ONE WHALE Connect with OneWhale.org:

I have read something about the work that has been done with belugas, and it's heartbreaking that there are still specimens out there. They are extremely intelligent and gentle creatures. I hope a solution can be found, but will continue to keep him in my thoughts.

It's nothing new to see cetaceans being taken advantage of like this.
Both as captive animals at SeaWorld or as some kind of assistance to the military during the cold war.
The US military has conducted programmes to that effect too, so don't go thinking it is just the Russians doing it.

When we went to Norway in summers, he saw him around Sorøya island. We could pet him and we gave him some of the leftovers from our mackerel. Their skin feels so strange. Not soft or glassy like you would think but rough like a cat tounge. Love the kind whale❤

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

It only looks glassy because it is usually wet, but even with its texture it is soft, just as a cats tongue is.
The texture of its skin is likely something similar to sharkskin with hydrodynamic adaptation allowing them to swim with less friction through the water, perhaps causing less cavitation too in their wake.

They're not, 😅 they knew they've been used
Chickens knew, some fight and some just humble and don't wanna get themselves in trouble, chickens knew they're gonna get killed for food, their unborn babies too 🐔🔪🍗🥚🍳
Cows, pigs, goats, sheeps, as well
Horses, some got killed rarely there are people who love eating horse meat 🍖🐴
But most, they only trained them for gambling races, competitions and personal rides other than cars and bicycles, horse knew they've been used, some like that lifestyle and some don't, they wanna go to the wild where they belong

I think whales are intelligent beings. Every time I see a Beluga whale with their bulbous head...I think wow what a big brain. If its brain physiology is the same as a dolphin, it never needs to sleep because half the brain is awake while the other half is asleep. I wonder if humans will evolve into something like that.
