    This and the cutting tutorial will help a lot. I’m out to sew my first knit.

      Yay!! Glad that my videos helped you. And good luck sewing with knits! They are actually a lot of fun.

    What type of knit fabric did you use, and what is the weight?

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a jersey knit, medium weight. It's a 2-way knit. I think it's 100% cotton, but I've had the fabric for so long I don't remember.

    What stitch length are you doing the strait stitches? 3?

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  ปีที่แล้ว

      For medium weight fabrics I use 2.5 length stitch. I’ll drop that down to a 2 for light weight fabrics and bump it up to a 3 with thick fabrics.

    I have the hardest time still with neckbands 🤦🏾‍♀️

      I do too. This was the first knit one I sewed and I stretched it out. I’ve made a few more knit dresses and my skills improve with each one. You’ll get the hang of it!!

      yeah, I watched this several times and referred to the instructions and I still don't really understand how to put it on! I screwed up my practice garment

    Coming to this video a bit late but I'm doing a dress with horizontal stripes (its for a costume). Is there any real reason to have to cut the back piece in two sections and sew a center back seam and not just cut it on the fold like the front is cut? I did trial run and even being as careful as I could while cutting and pinning, I didn't match the stripes up in the back at the seam. I am not really seeing the point of having to cut this and sew a back seam if there isn't any zipper to install

      I apologize for the late reply on this comment! I think the only reason for a center back seam on this dress is for it to be a little more fitted than if it was cut on the fold. Using striped fabric for a costume, I'd totally cut it on the fold too. If I make it again, I'll probably cut on the fold to speed up the process!

    I really enjoyed both parts of this tutorial. I am still learning the basics a year after deciding I was really passionate about sewing (what tools I need, sewing machine vs. serger, what books to get, what fabrics work best with what patterns..) and I'm making design C for my daughter in crushed velvet, red. It's a stunning dress so far.... but I struggle with what always appear to be very simple instructions. I got hung up on the neckline. So, thanks for the vids. I feel confident I can finish this tomorrow!

    As a new sewist, I like using a zig-zag stitch on knit because it’s easier to seam rip. 😊. Also I started sewing by doing small quilts, so I have a walking foot. I find that helps me sew knits too. Thanks for the video!

      You’re welcome! I don’t have a walking foot because the ones for Bernina are crazy expensive. But I’ve heard they are helpful with knits and other difficult fabrics.
