Anyone complaining about the 4Runner should just get the mommy mobile Highlander and stop whining. The 4Runner is not for you. Now for those of us who remember what a true SUV use to be and can actually live with out gimmicks that will just jack the price up, then this is the vehicle you want.
The so called old school vibe that the 4 Runner has is actually what's keeping them on the map. Don't know about your area but I see tons of them on the road in mine. Once this thing gets its next redesign, watch out! Hope you guys have a great Father's Day weekend!
One of the best vehicles ever made. sure it lacks some modern technology. but a redesign is coming in late 2021. this is one of the last of the body on frame trucks and its bulletproof. when a lot offers peers sold today will have be bitten the dust in 15 years this will be still rolling.
Truth. Laughing at these folks who dont get it. My last tacoma had 500k on original motor and trans. My 2019 trd OR is amazing. Best car to own if you like the outdoors.
for a $45K+ Limited model it still has halogen headlights, no blind spot monitor, and a 5 speed transmission. For the same price I'd rather spend on a slightly used Lexus GX460.
It's ashame that all suvs and crossovers have stopped hiding a rear wiper under a rear spoiler. Hiding it under a rear spoiler gives an SUV a clean natural look without a wiper sticking out like a sore thumb!!!!! I'm glad the 4runner has hid a rear wiper
I agree, it's great to get the wiper out of sight. BUT, as a functional wiper, I think our old '99 4Runner did a better job of wiping the window. Our new 2022 kinda sucks.
Love these outdated comments. Its called proven and reliable. You should stick to mini vans. When im out in death valley and could give a shit about apple car play. The piece of mind is priceless.
@Justin Xu best vehicle ever owned. 3 tacos and a ford. Not even close. Off road with any jeep and then drive home in a comfy ride. Kdss , crawl control and Atrac are amazing.
What are your thoughts on the Pedal commander and other similar Gas pedal sensitivity adjustments from 3rd parties? Does it affect it long term? Is it something that has no bearing on the warranty? Would you do it ?
Howdy, great review as always guys! If they would offer tri zone climate, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and maybe a power folding third row to the Limited option list, this would be an awesome luxury car! I feel like putting a CVT or 8 Speed Auto would be a good idea as well to help with economy! That being said, for what it is, the 4Runner is still a great car. My great aunt and uncle have owned like 7 now and recently downsized to a 2020 RAV4 Plantinum to go along with the 2018 Camry XLE that they downsized there other 4Runner to back in 2017!😸😻😸
Thanks for a great video. Being a former 99 4Runner LTD 4WD , current 10 RAV4 LTD V6 with JBL system, I definitely miss driving the 4Runner. Overall, I like the current model. although , the exterior lighting , needs a total LED updating, low-high beams, fog, all turn signals and rear backup. The outside mirrors need an electric - foldable option . The tailgate operation needs an electronic open close feature. A real dual exhaust with be awesome I wish they would change some of their wheel options..personally don't like the Limited 19 in wheel look. I like more deep off road wheels ,but wished they came in a polished look too, not just blacked out. I dont like the inside door panels with ergonomically incorrect location of the electric window controls .. too high and should be lowered more into to same level as the arm rest . Maybe just the above items tweaks would by this current model 1 or 2 more years before a major refresh. One item I consider important when driving at highway speeds ie 60 mph Is highlighting the RPMs.similar to how you make note of the decibels Toyota is very good at tuning the engine RPMS low even with these older technology 5 speed transmissions..under 2000 rpms..at 60mph Which keeps engine noise down and fuel economy up. Unlike some competing models. Thanks again for great video representation
The 3rd row is surprisingly large, given that it’s a large vehicle. It is NOT worse than the highlander! Even with the second row pushed all the way forward I couldn’t even fit to reach into the third row/trunk from the rear doors. My 13 year old could barely squeeze in the third row of the highlander, we couldn’t even put the second row back into position, he didn’t fit. He’s very tall for 13, but the third row in the highlander was a joke. He actually fit nicely in the 4Runners 3rd row and we could put the second row back in place.
Great review of sorely needed updates, but seems like it still falls short on features a vehicle at this price point should have. Perhaps it does not make a difference for their faithful buyers who want/need an old school SUV, but that is a shrinking market.
If adding Android Auto & Apple Carplay is the biggest change, then Toyota once again is relying on its reputation to sell cars & not on innovation. I'm not bashing Toyota (I own a Lexus & would buy another). But GM, Ford, Hyndia & Kia have drastically improved and continue to innovate. How much longer people will be satisfied with a large, old 4 ltr 6 banger and 5 gears in a ten year old package,...
The 4Runner is getting old though love the style it's a reliable SUV if anything engine will last 600,000 miles think 4Runners, Tacomas and Tundras last an lifetime. I like Toyota products interiors are boring but reliable under the hood if ever bought a 4Runner wouldn't worry about breakdowns this car would last 300,000 miles a rugged sport utility.
I HATE that they havent put LED lighting on this model yet. That is one of the biggest reasons I havent purchased one of these. Toyota needs to get with the program. This is an awesome truck… just needs to be brought into at least the 2010’s…
Kyron Toyota is not really outdated anymore there is a new RAV4 for 2019 new highlander for 2020 new corolla for 2020 new Avalon for 2019 new sienna for 2021 the 4Runner is outdated yes but not Toyota
I'll never understand how Toyota has conned online reviewers (and apparently some passionate commenters) into thinking that being out of date is somehow charming. They'll always say things like "people who buy these don't care about that", but that's a self-fulfilling prophecy because anyone who cares will buy something else. I am currently shopping in this segment, and I do care about these things. And before you throw the obligatory "then go buy a minivan, they sold 300k of these last year and don't need you!" reply at me, consider that it's not just a little out of date, this 4runner generation started in 2009, 12 model years ago. Some features are definitely arguable, but Toyota has better engines, transmissions and feature sets available. And they know it, they bolted on whatever features they could to hold them over until their redesign is done because with bronco coming back and jeeps getting recent and future redesigns, they're falling behind and they know it. I don't expect to sway anyone because this is the Internet and I think name-calling is probably more likely, but one last thought. If you are the person they are talking about, who wants the reliability and doesn't care about features, then don't buy a new 2020 4runner, buy a used one even as old as 2009 because it's the same vehicle... make its old age work for you and save some money.
You make some good points. The 4Runner we just bought COULD have been updated incrementally a lot more over the course of this generation. Auto climate control across all models, power fold mirrors, heated steering wheel, better sound system, a higher resolution backup camera and faster responding infotainment system, better mileage/more responsive engine. But it still offroads better than anything but a Jeep or new Bronco, but find it to be a comfortable Daily Driver as well. That dated engine and transmission are solid very reliable, and the 4Runner has a very high resale value, despite being outdated, compared to the competition. And, the rear window rolls down :-). There is also the styling factor that keeps folks who will NEVER take it off the pavement buy a 4Runner over a Highlander, or MDX, or other more luxurious SUV, which are really better cars than true SUVs.
Different vehicles built for different purposes. This 4Runner got full time 4WD. It is way more capable than a Ford Explorer. If u want a family hauler with some tech, then the Explorer would be a good option.

I just test drove limited today its not an suv its a tank super solid vehicle
Even if I win a lottery this is the first thing I'd buy over any other vehicle.
Still using the tried and true 5 speed automatic. Bulletproof.
This transmission has never failed?
Truth. Laughing at these folks who dont get it. My last tacoma had 500k on original motor and trans. My 2019 trd OR is amazing. Best car to own if you like the outdoors.

Bo Han True, But I want a 4runner
But I like your opinion
Only channel which show everything in detail as i found suvs which have 4 way lumber support . Important tip- always keep your detailed reviews
Thanks so much! We appreciate that!
You guys always do a good job of reviewing vehicles, very detailed. Keep up the great job.
Thanks, Brandon! Glad you enjoyed!
Terrific video of the Toyota 4Runner 4X4!!! Great job guys!!!
Thanks!

There are a few that still have that, Cadillac escalade and xt6, lincoln aviator, 2021 kia sorento also.

Bought a 2020 4runner limited last week. Test drove a palisade and was finding too hard to love fall in love with it. Love the ride.
I love the 4Runner but I’m desperate for a new one. 😕
2022 I'm hearing
Toyota keeps on making old cars because of reliability
AMAZING, STRONG, POWERFUL.

They need to add seat ventilation to the TRD PRO, along with a heated steering wheel
old or not, these 4runner’s will always be the most beautiful toyota’s on the road
Ha 4Runner is good
Great video. Too bad Toyota did not keep current on technology with this SUV.

Love my 2017 4runner Limited!
basically a compact cadillac escalade, but a lot more efficient and reliable. the escalade gets 8 miles in the city and 10 miles on the highway.
More companies need to make midsize truck based SUVs
I love the smile metre
Nice idea. I always get excited to see it

They could have killed this vehicle off years ago, but it’s still here so it must be doing something right with shoppers.
Ford, GM, and Hyundai-Kia doesn't even have a vehicle that competes with the 4Runner. The upcoming Bronco will, but it is not released it.
As long as they keep selling 300,000 of these every year Toyota won't change a single thing!
Still one of the highest resale value SUVs made.
I love Toyota 4Runner
Go Toyota! These cars from Toyota are my personal favorite.
3 years ago, I try to buy 20' Toyota 4Runner.

Besides the TSS, This is still the same 5th gen 4runner as the 2010(Or same front end as the 2014).
Gotta love the halogens. Good job guys! :D
lol
Been waiting for this! 😁😃
I’m striked that the 4Runner is still the same!!🤦♂️
Its a beautiful SUV but the tires could have been little wider.
2020 4Runner limited vs rav4 limited I think Toyota 4Runner is the winner
I HATE that they havent put LED lighting on this model yet. That is one of the biggest reasons I havent purchased one of these. Toyota needs to get with the program. This is an awesome truck… just needs to be brought into at least the 2010’s…
Is this in Canada
The 4runner is my favorite vehicle from Toyota but it also reminds me of why I dislike Toyota so much. It's pitiful how outdated this is.
Kyron Toyota is not really outdated anymore there is a new RAV4 for 2019 new highlander for 2020 new corolla for 2020 new Avalon for 2019 new sienna for 2021 the 4Runner is outdated yes but not Toyota
I take it you didn’t listen to a word they said about the people that think of like you literally just said about it. Smh You belong in the Highlander
Old school car ut still is very good off-road
I love the 2020 4Runner it’s very nice!!! Toyota makes good cars
Your video said you was at a dealership in Frankfort KY. I'm a Kentuckian and for some reason I'm not hearing any Kentucky in your voice.
Well we were born and raised in Lexington but I guess we didn't pick up much of the southern accent 😁
How are we still not making LEDs standard at least for the headlights 🙄🙄🙄
All 2022s are LED exterior lights across the board.
@@RobS123 yeah I know. It’s just annoying knowing that it took until 2022 for that to happen. When I’m like 2016 you got LED lights on a base Corolla
Is there rear people and car detection like in my Highlander?
Ridiculous Lexus is slowly adding touch screen to their models. Almost every Toyota now has touch screen. The ancient LX don’t.
First 2 seats and screen look like Prado

I had the 2010 version of this and frankly it was one of the most boring vehicles I have ever owned. It sucked gas like a full size SUV.
Bigger Engine Than Highlander, Slower than highlander? what a shame
I love your Toyota 4 runner truck how is ride
Car looks like it came from 2010
Close..... it came from 2009
Taking BMW parts for the Supra, decade old 4Runner sold as new. LOL @Toyota
Love toyota but lack of tech / basic amenities does not warrant price. Catch up Toyota, catch up!
How’s everyone doing so far?
5th
Dated design inside and out, not enough technology and expensive. Will look at Ford Explorer
no ecoboost please, unless if its 3.0
Different vehicles built for different purposes. This 4Runner got full time 4WD. It is way more capable than a Ford Explorer. If u want a family hauler with some tech, then the Explorer would be a good option.
Just remember what they say about Fords...… 90% of them are still on the road & the other 10% made it home.
Good luck with that Ford exploder!
My father will not be able to buy Lexus or toyota so review another car that's not Lexus or toyota
