Last game was tough. Amalia's win condtion these days is the aetherflux reservoir. To win you needed to axe on the turn the played return to the ranks and remove the dog in response to return to the ranks. Letting them have it on board leaves you dead to too many things. Its definitely something you need experience with to know how to play the matchup.
You can target yourself with the Ashiok mill since it says exile each opponents graveyard.
Nice. Was surprised you didn’t run this deck the last few meta challenges you did. Also, if you go creativity again, try the normal worlds line wurm build. So much more consistent and once you cast creativity it’s a win.
Always love to see Phoenix decks survive no matter what, on theme and always fun to pilot

This is the first legit izzit deck I’ve seen on youtube that wasn’t limited. You never see that in standard

More pioneer! This is what I live for. Also play the crackling drakes when they bring graveyard hate, it makes the deck much better.

Pretty happy to see you play some phoenix. Been trying to build this deck on arena and I'm almost done with it
@3:38 You didn't punt there. You had only cast 1 instant/sorcery that turn and could only cast 1 more, so you couldn't have reanimated your phoenix that turn.
Edit: And in game 2 you realized that.
There was a similar deck showcased in midweek magic but it also had the one drops that surveil 1 when sorc or instants .. Had some serious skill issues trying to play with that. Or perhaps UI issues - was really hard to manage to cat the 3 instant/sorceries before combat especially if one of them was treasure cruise and you had to (get to ) surveil for each as well as connive on the middle..
19:09 - tiny misplay.. Why not let the snoop land before prankstering .. to see what the top card is before choosing..
I did a bigger misplay in my last MkM draft .. Opponent had Ezrim out (tapped).. Seemed like a desperate situation - but I attacked with a person of interest - no blocks - as expected - opponent would have had to trade and had life.. I played Treacherous greed.. And drew an extract a confession .. great - expect Idid not have any more black mana available.. I did draw swamp too -- but -- I had already played a land .. of no reason -- except that - usually you play a land before casting your big spell - like if the pponent could cast no more lies or something.. Also had a gravestone strider in hand .. and exactly 3 mana available after treacherous greed -- exactly not enough to cast the strider and extract a confession. Dunno if I had won but I had 3 critters on board and on the job.. With Ezrim out I might have survived another round to use them..

Started playing and learning phoenix today. Isnt it better to mill yourself for 4 with the planeswalker?

In the last game, had he just played the phoenix in hand before swinging and then played any 1 mana spell to pump the shredder, wouldn't he have hit for exactly 12? Couldn't he also have played two considers before attacking, discard phoenix to pump shredder, and then play lightning axe to ressurect it and swing for 12? There were definitely two lines for lethal he missed on his last turn. Granted, couldn't have known they would gain the life for sure, but should have hedged against it.
Nevertheless, very good play.

Nummy, if they bring graveyard hate you then bring in your drakes, they get bigger for cards being in your GY or exile.

Wait, is Faithless Looting not in this format? Why wouldn't you play that in this deck?
it isn't in it.
Might seem insane but either I'd put 2 - Fabled Passages in this deck or 2 - Zoyowa's Justice so there is some shuffle effects that can help reset those instances where phoenix gets put on the bottom of the library.
double ashiok in the sideboard is really not necessary in explorer, almost nobody is playing lotus field, thats only really a deck in pioneer
and I dont really like ashiok in the phoenix mirror either cause every phoenix player has spell pierces main and additionally sides in mystical disputes as well
explorer has so many vamps players that its probably better to have a few more threats that are good against leyline in your sideboard.
edit: also, you can mill yourself with ashiok, it doesnt exile your GY
