Victrix Limited French Dragoons I Some of the Best Historical Models I have Seen!

  • The day has come! When I discovered Victrix Limited I know I was destined to paint all of their models within time. As a military history nerd and miniature painter, I could not resist spending hours just looking at their line of models that others have painted, contemplating which period of history I should begin with.
    With my love for the Napoleonic Wars and affinity for Muskets and the spectacular cavalry units of the period, I decided to go with the French and picked out one of my favorite units of all time, the French Dragoons. I had slain many enemies of l`Empereur with this fierce unit in Napoleon: Total War and it was time to bring them to live.
    I went with the 23rd Regiment of Dragoons who wore yellow accents on their uniforms.
    Enjoy this video where I go through my process of painting and basing this spectacular piece of art from Victrix Limited!

    After I base cavalry, but before flocking, I usually use plumbers epoxy(a fix-it-stik from Lowe's, 8 bucks for a huge stick) to fill in the area between model bases to make the ground level. you can also press an eraser from a pencil in the still unset putty to make hoof prints. Later fill in the 'hoofprints' with water effects at the end to simulate muddy ground.

    FYI the epaulettes should be red for the troopers and silver for the officers.

    • @jpxstudios
      @jpxstudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a bunch! Did all Regiments wear red epaulettes? I initially painted them red, then saw a reference photo that the 23rd wore yellow and changed them.

    • @olafsson6431
      @olafsson6431 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jpxstudios To my knowledge the troopers had no epaulettes, except the elites which had red ones. I also saw some elites with white ones but i dont if thats true. My advice would be to just look up individual regiments because uniforms in this time were not uniform lol. A lot of things were basically up to their colonel and his regimental funds. Great work on them btw!

    Yes please do paint some horses on the chanel.
    My favourite type of troops have always been Polish Lancers and if you are impressed with Victrix I heartily recommend their Imperial Guard Lancers which are superb.
    As you mention the reverse colours for the trumpeter, they tended also to be mounted on grey horses so their officers could morre readily spot them.

      @@jpxstudios always happy to help. Maybe he biggest reason I got into Napoleonic miniatures was the uniforms. You should do some Hussars, they are a real riot of color. Also pay attention to the “heads of the column - musicians, officers, sappers, elite troops - regimental colonels would spent fortunes ensuring theirs were the most extravagant. The problem go so bad that Napoleon had to make musicians wear a specified green uniform. Oh and if you can find them, check out Elting’s books on uniforms.

    Pretty paint, but in the dragoon regiments only the elite company wears epaulettes, which are necessarily red. In addition, the top of the plumes of the helmets is of the distinctive color, in the case of the 23° it is therefore daffodil (yellow)..

    Votre qualité de peinture est superbe ... A part les épaulettes jaunes ! Elles sont rouges pour la compagnie d'élite qui porte le Bonnet en poils d'ourson. Dommage que Victrix se soit trompé pour la position de la médaille 🏅 sur l'officier. Pareil pour la taille de la cartouchière et la sangle qui est trop courte. Mais vous n'y êtes pour rien.
