We saw Tootsie last week in New York and saw the preview in Chicago in October. This gentleman is amazingly talented. I was impressed that he took this opportunity to so graciously work in the names of so many colleagues during this interview. Sharing the credit rather than holding the spotlight on himself makes him a class act in my book. He deserves his success!
@@user-lb4fr2ly4b Just finished listening to Stephen King's The Institute on audible for the second time in a year. Narrated by Santino. He does a fantastic job!
Queen Elsa Of Arendelle I'm not a fan of that twist, to put it mildly. The abrupt shift from "likeable but impulsive secondary lead" to "gloating Saturday morning-cartoon supervillain" leaves a really nasty taste in my mouth, and I feel like there were numerous better ways of portraying Hans whilst retaining the "Don't rush into marriage" message. However, Santino did his best with what he had, and "Love Is An Open Door" is one of my favourite songs from Frozen...
I recognized him by his voice! Was watching CXG and I had this feeling, on the back of my head that I knew him somehow even though I was certain I never saw his face before, then during the taco festival date I just shouted HANS! at my cellphone LOL
I'm a '90s kid, but my music taste consists of past decades before I was born and I still remember the first time I watched the movie Tootsie most especially it was associated with my all-time favourite song, It Might Be You. Congrats! Dustin would be proud!
I like him I love his voice. He's a fantastic singer. I saw him on Hallmark movie, can't remember the name? But he was amazing in it, and I have fallen in love with him 💕
Ah, Mr. Fontana, always a charmer! But wow, was he contractually obligated to credit all those people on the musical? He tried to be smooth about it (and with that amazing voice and smile, he's very smooth) but it still felt forced and awkward. Nevertheless, it's great to see him get more exposure, and on a superficial note - who knew a brown suit could look so good?
Also shocked he says he is never recognized by his voice. Online many, MANY people freaked out when they realized while watching CXG that he was Hans. Maybe he just meant in person?
Melissa Dana I feel like he isn't recognised in person, because Hans' speaking voice is pretty similar to the other Disney princes. Many Disney villains have very distinctive voices, but Hans is essentially designed to sound like the "charming but generic" romantic lead he initially seems to embody...
I've never seen Frozen but recognized his voice right away. (?) I'll have to Google him, have no idea why it was so familiar. Also, I wish I could see this play so much! Tootsie was a classic/fave in our movie collection. ♡
I cannot help it when I say that when I close my eyes, all I here is Hans. LOL And also, his name is possibly the most Italian-sounding name I have ever heard.
Santino Fontana AND "Star Of Whimsical 1950s Italian Film Featuring A Bicycle, Horny Prepubescents Spying On An Older Woman Dressing, Fishermen, & A Giant Loaf Of Bread"
wow crazy ex girlfriend was not even mentioned although more people know him from that show than anything else he did. Colbert must have been instructed not to mention it. It really is sad that he split from CXG on bad terms - he was a great original Greg.
@@debbiedoodiedandi Apparently he was not willing to wait to see if they would get renewed for season 2 and accepted other offers, so the CXG people had to write him off the show pretty quickly in season 2, which was not planned. Rachel Bloom is very supportive on social media about all her co-stars but has not said anything about Santino since he left, nor liked/commented on his posts. Same the other way around, Santino does not speak about the show, although he was a big part of it initially.
Actors usually don't talk about their past jobs in interviews about their new shows. Also, there are plenty of interviews where Santino has addressed that he left crazy ex-girlfriend because he wanted to be with his wife and he missed New York. He has constantly said he was open to returning if he had time and if they could write him back in. Crazy ex-girlfriend isn't very popular outside of the small fanbase so i don't think it means much that Colbert didn't mention it. Frozen is much more well known than CXG
Also, he signed on when CXG was a half hour cable show, then CXG got picked up as an hour long show on a major network. He upheld his 1 season contract but did not renew for season 2. Multiple CXG cast & crew have posted on social that they have gone to see Tootsie as well. That he left on "bad terms" has been hyped. I'm sure Rachel Bloom & co. were disappointed to have to rework their plan for his character, but nothing negative has been said publicly by either side.
I want a video with Santino Fontana and Seth Rogen telling each other jokes. Or getting high together. And that would probably the last thing to see in my life, because my lungs would explode with laughter.
On the playlist for the May 10th, this is not the suit, not the tie he was wearing... so... I'm guessing something went wrong when they tried to come back from the cartoon realm¿

Oh, thank God, I thought I was the only one who felt that the very idea of "Tootsie" is problematic and transphob-ish. Here, see, "Out" understands me. www.out.com/theater/2019/5/06/tootsie-may-be-funny-its-hella-problematic "Throughout, her sexuality is a joke. For example, when she is describing her ideal man, it is played for laughs and when she believes she is a lesbian, the very idea of queerness is considered comedic." "For the entirety of the musical, it is the men who are woke and have the most to say about sexism, primarily Michael, who believes “what Dorothy is doing is important,” but also his roommate Jeff, played by Andy Grotelueschen, and his agent, played by Michael McGrath. The musical goes out of its way to have the male characters be mouthpieces for feminism, as if these brief apologist monologues can make up for the rest of the show. God forbid the women actually be given a chance to speak about sexism." And the conclusion: " *Tootsie cannot be saved, and quite honestly, it shouldn’t be.* " What he said 👆🏻
I'm sure this guy is great but Keanu only got one segment and this guy gets equal time? Keanu is an incredible smokeshow who deserves at least a two-fer! Oh well
This is what I've been wondering about. I've never seen the movie, but this feels really problematic. The way he spoke about it, it seems like they addressed things to some extent, but if you've seen it, I'd love to hear your take. I won't spend money to go see something if there's a chance of it being as transphobic as it looks (even if I love Santino; he should have stayed with Crazy Ex Girlfriend!).
I haven't. In context, Tootsie (1982) used a collection of genuinely harmful transfeminine stereotypes. Santino Fontana said it'd been "dealt with" however it looks like almost everyone involved with this remake is cisgender. His description didn't add any color to how they'd addressed transfeminine issues raised by the work they were recasting and the demographics of the play's staff aren't promising for them being capable of handling this material. I guess I could fly to NYC and see this just to learn how and what ways this remake needs work but that seems like a lot of effort and they director and cast should be able to speak for themselves.
His laugh is just as beautiful as his voice.
He seems a lot nicer than Hans but also I don't care what anyone says I want Hans to redeem himself
God, I miss Greg...I mean Santino. Old Greg. I miss CXG. Anyway, I hope I can get to see him on Broadway someday.
