SUCH A FUN TIME, thanks for letting me be apart of this new mission of yours. If anyone wants to see the 2 part story of his whole trip, check out part 1 here > th-cam.com/video/Wa3PCvo69YI/w-d-xo.html
Phil, this episode is now my favorite, and I've watched all of them. Kudos to Tyler and his family for their hospitality and sharing their neighborhood.
When they first tried to protect yosemite, photography didn't exist. The only images congress had to base their decission on were paintings and many congressmen didn't believe it was real.
That shot with Cookie Monster and the book is pro-fesh-in-al. It's fun to watch your production people up the game on graphics and cinematography without losing the Phil style (e.g., funny maps). Also, I imagine you're doing a lot of learning and shooting. So, it's not just your staff who are upping the game. Kudos, all around!
Awesome video, Phil. Love the Gaimon x VC collabs! The editing/cinematography for this video was great. I'm guessing Tyler did it? Had a very VC feel to it - in the best possible way. Really enjoyed the video and I like the concept. Looking forward to future installments of Best Retirement Ever 👏🏻🤙🏻
bootleg metallica? Dude you need some Slayer at minimum! Get the tempo of the music up, get pumped, and bang out those climbs! Chill beats put you to sleep and make the climbs feel longer. Try this out, next climb... th-cam.com/video/zYO9kcY2ZH0/w-d-xo.html ...you may not KOM that shit, but you'll PR it!
Awesome video Phil! Glad to finally see the travel videos coming to fruition. This type of riding is exactly why I love cycling. Racing is fun (even though I'm terrible! lol ) but this is what inspires me and gets me out the door! Looking forward to the series! Oh and my wife says I look like you all dressed/covered up in my Castelli gear. I'm not quite sure about that, it is Cinco de Mayo so that may be the margaritas talking. ;)
Really enjoyed this video. Got nostalgic for me too... I spent some time in Yosemite with my brother, and totally loved the place. We don't have that same type of landscape in Australia. Phil keep up the Best Retirement Ever. VC you rock bruh!
Great idea about Best Retirement ever. I've been retired 3 years now and loving it. I've always wanted to see Yosemite. It's one of the few major National Parks I haven't seen. As with most NP, it's best in the off season.
Thanks, Phil, for this video, love the positive vibes of your best retirement ever. And maybe you could do one up in Denali and ride the 92-mile gravel road in and out with some Alaskan buds. And another scenic ride would be the C & O Canal towpath from DC to Cumberland, Maryland. And then up to PIttsburgh. Or back or wherever your dreams take you, as my coffee mug with a bike tells me.
Mr Gaimon says he would "rather go through [a tunnel] slow and up hill" [11:34] Would he say that after climbing through the tunnels between Matsumoto and Norikura (the highest paved road in Japan)? I think not. And redwoods are well-known for their adaption to the fire cycle. If he and the Vegan Cyclist were to have looked carefully, they should have seen numerous giant sequoia and other comfier seedlings poking up. Mike Nolen of the Bass Lake Ranger District says this is "how [the] area regenerates."
Looking forward to retirement myself. Planned a Yosemite bike trip climbing to Glacier Point and the valley floor with my brother. It's then off to Mammoth Mountain for a little MTB, I only ride park (JK).
john Cast - To be honest, I almost never ride park. We’ve got a place for the week at Mammoth. So it’s 11,053 and the trails and the scenic loop for me.
You've earned it man! Been through the worst, now it's time for the best! Not to say that I won't be excited to see you suffer for another Strava KOM...
Yeah! I like the "Worst" looking forward to the "Best". Great way to start with VC (I watch a ton of your videos-thanks). That was a little Matt Stevens clip in issues on the way out to the tunnel:)
Great vid Phil. Please bring back the "You send me" remix from your announcement video. My wife loves your new positive attitude. I was fine with grumpy Phil.
Degnan's, climber hangout since the 1970's. There are several bars, restaurants and accommodations at tiered levels, from the posh historic Ahwahnee Hotel (ignore its new corporate rebranded name) to motel-level, then Curry camp, to regular campsites. Concession licensing within a national park is a big financial coup, usually, but is regulated to a degree that prevents egregious marketing creep.
This is why I want to see the US ...... the countryside. There must be untold ranges of hills and mountains most have never heard of in Europe! Keep going.
How far was the ride, can you link the rides to Strava or Ride with GPS so some can follow along later. Is there any place to rent a road bike around there when I get out there from the east cost?
Really sick! I want to create a Best Retirement episode for you too Phil! Check your DM on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. I want to show you around the Big Island of Hawaii and make you climb the steepest hill in the US! Waipi'o Valley!! 619ft at an average gradient of 23% which ramps up to 45% !!! We gotta do it!! It'd be soooo epic!!!
That would be an excellent adventure, glad you proposed it. And arg about the lava flow. It hurts to hear about people losing their homes and lifestyle. And one of my favorite memories is driving a rental Mustang on the Big Island on a visit in '89. So much of it was like a moonscape and I was rockin' the lunar module.
**in my head** "Dont mess up, you're on camera, fuk....Dont mess up again, you're on camera...FUK... Dont mess up AGAIN!, you're on camera.......FUUUUUUK...
Yosemite looks sick! Also, way keep your junk off the top tube while descending. We need to stamp that out. Any plans to take this east? Roads in Vermont are great.
Wrong season in this video, but if you get the chance there is an amazing swimming hole just off the road coming downstream near the base of El Cap. Phil needs come gloves.
You said there is 3 ways into yosemite, but you only listed 2, and the one you forgot was Tioga pass?!?! Tioga pass is THE BEST way into Yosemite! Unless you don't like climbing hills by bicycle of course ;-)
Well they carved the faces of people in our other parks so a Starbucks seems like nothing. The reason Yosemite has stayed so nice is because of the Indian natives who still run the gift shop among the majority of everything else around there not its European intruders
Great video, content, sense of humour, enjoyed it a lot! One remark only: I don't really understand all the praise for cinematography, since the camera quality did not allow for proper lighting, colours, contrast to actually see the views, esp Tunnel View. Looked more like an 80's VHS recording if you ask me ;) Next time better to focus on quality instead of framerate, any GoPro makes for a more enjoyable watch.
SUCH A FUN TIME, thanks for letting me be apart of this new mission of yours. If anyone wants to see the 2 part story of his whole trip, check out part 1 here > th-cam.com/video/Wa3PCvo69YI/w-d-xo.html
"4oz Steak is practically Vegan you guys." Great content and collaboration Phil. You're the best and worst at retirement.
Tyler went from chasing you on a memorial ride for an interview, to doing your fondo, to chilling with you at Yosemite lol
Crazy right?
Chased on a memorial ride? what

We green screened this whole thing. I never left LA

the videos featuring the two of you are pure GOLD

My son gave Phil the cookie monster stuffed animal as gift the night before. It was pretty freaking cute.
Gordon Chaffin Vegan Cyclist did the editing,

Apart from his edit style, a quick look at the framerate tells you its probably him. Tyler loves the smooth 60 fps (as do I) :D
Best video yet. Chill beats and great views. Man I wish this music was playing in my head when I suffer out a climb, instead I get bootleg Metallica

2 of my fav cycling dudes on youtube, this is legendary
Great video! The view of Yosemite Valley made me homesick for the vacation spot we used to visit every summer near Yosemite... have to go back soon :)
woo! excited for this new show
Second 00:38 - Retnik, Chuki, and all those other beats! (Awesome intro Vegan, and those dope cameo-beats...)
Sick sound, editing, and cinematography! Upping the game!!

Thank you!
I just watched it for a second time too . very rare
Great new format Phil.
Sure looking forward to seeing lots more.
Well done.
That was on point Phil. Great video. Vegan cyclist is such a cool cat too...
This is great works Phil and VC. I look forward to more and visiting this spot!
Best Collab Evah, bruh!
got to say how much value vegan cyclist brings to this vlogs
... to these* vlogs.*
I love starbucks, but no need for it in Yosemite. looks pretty sweet to ride there. Last time I visited Yosemite was when I was a young kid.
How cool is that! I lived in Oakhurst, right by Bass lake, loved the area, thin air though, tough to train at first... great videos my friend :-) :-)
Yeah! I like the "Worst" looking forward to the "Best". Great way to start with VC (I watch a ton of your videos-thanks). That was a little Matt Stevens clip in issues on the way out to the tunnel:)
Great job on the "B Roll" edits.

We’ll do a mix of both for awhile
Nice. Love yosemite appreciate the laid back approach

One of your best videos yet.
Legit. Love the collaboration. Keep it up!
Who makes the Vegan's "California" kit?
Sweet vlog! And yeah, no Starbucks! How many baristas would love to open a coffee shop in Yosemite, right?
Was that 2 or 3 kids at the VC house? Respect for the clean house. I have 3 kids and can barely walk across one room without breaking an ankle.
Scott Raines VC actually has 29 children
Phil Gaimon 29? Well now I just feel like a failure ;-)
75 different wives. The man is a meatless legend.
Great video! You and Tyler are champs.
How far was the ride, can you link the rides to Strava or Ride with GPS so some can follow along later. Is there any place to rent a road bike around there when I get out there from the east cost?
Here is the ride - www.strava.com/activities/1353989841 and hit me up if you come out, i can help get you dialed.
nice, chill. music really brought the elements together. That is some view...
Starbucks is great but not appropriate for Yosemite!
I agree, and everyone would have to be included for it to be fair, but I'd be fine with Taco Bell.
Bro that Andrew Applepie set the tempo so well for Yosemite. Bliss
Man the Vegan Cyclist always has such great videos.
Love the new format, doping is too negative, this is way more fun. And Yosemite is beautiful.
Great video,, glad ya boys teamed up
Here is why Yosemite is unique...being there and taking it in makes grown men cry...no joke
Climb Cuarto de Maquinas in Mexico total of 21.6km @ 6.8% that hardest section is 16.3km @ 9.6% (top 2471m)

Dude Mauna Kea is one of the best rides I've ever done. Find someone to pay for this trip and I'm in next year :)
"A 4 oz steak is practically vegan". I love it.
Excellent first episode ,,vegan cyclist and Phil what a great combination
wow speechless......best one thus far
Crazy. I'll be there in September. Gotta rent a road bike & ride. What's the name of the road closed to cars?
Hit me up, I will give you all the details. I am on veloguide for the area and have a bike you can use.
Great vid. My only question. Did you get a permit for the filming? Haha. Been there, done that, it's tough.
Glad you liked our “college project” 😬
Great Music choice. What song is it?
Andrew Applepie my guy!
Awesome vid, excited for this. 3:29 Phil clipfail, Tyler 3x clipfail :D
There's a little Matt Stevens in all of us! ;)

Hahaha.....awesome, we've all been there when we *need* to clip in :D
Just makes me feel better about myself! If these guys can have trouble sometimes... 😉
What a stunning place to ride a bike. What time of the year was this video shot?
richard knight had to have been last fall. VC said it was the end of the season and they were going to close the roads soon for snow during the vid.
Shoulda went up to glacier point, rad ride. I did it alone but is was amazing
Brings Back great memories.
Yosemite looks sick! Also, way keep your junk off the top tube while descending. We need to stamp that out. Any plans to take this east? Roads in Vermont are great.
Wait its closing because of snow? Isn't it almost summer there?
Alex Kang this was filmed months ago.
We rode in January, just before the snow came in hard - www.strava.com/activities/1353989841
Damn this video is great!
8:23 that's a croak from a common raven, and he's saying, "shave, shave! shave shave!"
That's just ridiculously beautiful riding.
Great vid, I have to make a trip there!
Any chance we could get the cookie recipe please
Great video, Phil!
Nice edit.
the cookie sign off... nice finish
Fucking sick edits
Anyone have the song list?
so fucking good !! great series start
Great vid. I'm so going to do this ride in the next few weeks. "4 oz is basically vegan!" Hahaha. That's gonna be my excuse from now on.
You guys just rode through a Bob Ross painting!
Great vid - great team. You guys should do a vlog together 👍
This looks like an awesome ride.
"It makes you want to just write poetry or something." You English majors are weeeeeird! ;-)
This was good but it was more interesting when you were going for KOMs and there was something of a story line.
Awesome views
Great video 😊

Starbucks in Yo-see-mite? Uh no. Lavazza maybe. Maybe.
Lavazza makes coffee, and their cafés are a similar chain operation like Starbucks. While the coffee is better, the cafés are not any more special.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 The key is that the coffee is better. 😉

What is the difference between a cookie and a biscuit?
Biscuit is softer, fluffier and is usually not sweet.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 Took a while but got the answer! 🙌
Nailed it!
13:12 is that a turd on your plate??????? 😉😉😉
needs more cliff logo
Wow, what a nice place to ride a bike😍
Great video, too bad the white balance is all messed up in some shots.
Nico job !! the vengan rules
Starbucks in Yosemite? Wrong on every level. Four Barrel or Tartine Bakery if anything.
