    With literally "millions" of plastic, fiberglass and metal items around us, can you imagine the millions and millions of part dies that must be out there stored somewhere?
    Engineering is cool!

    • @KaosFireMaker
      @KaosFireMaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, almost by definition there are fewer dies than end products.

    She sounds more like a news anchor describing scary stories to the public rather than talking about manufacturing. Both the original Canadian woman and the dubbed american male voice are much better.

    I had to disassemble and clean these things for a year. Not an easy thing to learn and plastic factories don't pay enough to do it but tooling really is a skilled trade.

    Good one Ian,
    But cooling hole drilling after machining the core and cavity profile!!! rare case. It will be drilled before the profile machining.

    They likely didn't use coolant at the time of filming so that YOU and I could actually SEE the process of the material being removed... Just FYI.

  • @chrisnapierutube
    @chrisnapierutube 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    We do not remove material "particle by particle" and the machine is not called "a CNC" it's a machining centre or milling machine. The second machine is not called "an EDM" it's a spark eroder that performs EDM. Most tools do not have the cavity machined directly into the plate with the water holes, the cavity is mostly a seperate insert fitted into a hole in the plate.

    @maikeydii I temped at a company that made and repaired molding dies for Rubbermaid and other companies. Many of these videos have inaccuries but they provide the lay person a good idea of what is involved in making the products that they use in their daily lives, and the industrial processes that most people will never see.

    • @asofyett

    No explanation about how the copper part just appears, and no real explanation about the magic that goes on with with it in that liquid. That's what this video is supposed to be about!

    • @lukemoldmaker1003
      @lukemoldmaker1003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karl:
      1. Copper parts are made by CNC manufacturing.
      2. The resin(raw material) will be melted in a barrel of the injection machine, and then injected into the mold and cooling & form, ejecting from the mold at last.

    Besides mold making, mass production, we also do assembling, packing, etc. sales01@rpimoulding.com
    What factors you need to consider to ask for a mold price?
    1) Part 3D file or dimensions of part with unit weight
    2) cavities: this is the most basic element for a mold quote. If the part is not very big, usually the manufacturer will ask you how many cavities you want for the mold? If you want 2 cavities, that means you can get 2 pieces from the mold one time. The more cavities, the bigger the mold should be, and of course the mold cost is the more expensive. No worries, I can tell you an easy solution: You can just tell the manufacturer how many pcs of the product you need per year and in the future. Then the manufacturer can calculate how many cavities is the best to save cost for you, and provide the quotation to you.
    3) Part material
    Part material means the raw material of the part or product=what raw material the part should be made of? Maybe you say plastic. Yes, of course, plastic injection molder only do with plastic, but maybe you don't know there are so many different types of plastic. The most common used are PP, PS, PC,Acrylic/PMMA PVC, PU, PET, HDPE,LDPE( just to name some of them). I don't know. Tell you a third secret: you just need to tell the manufacturer what the part is used for(=the application) and the color you want, then the manufacturer can recommend the material for you.

    Many factors are involved, type of material (steel, aluminum, ceramic, silicone, etc ...), size of end product, size of the mold base, number of end products per mold, and sophistication/complicity of end product.
    With that said, 4x7 alluminum mold run about $6K
    and steel molds that are about the size of a large dinner plate are about $65K
    allum avg 1 milllion hits before replacement, a little longer for steel
