I wonder how many 12 step calls this guy goes on? How many new people he works with? Or does he trip over the new comers after the meeting on his way to his car.
I agree with you... Although they're awesome, these guys are not consistently strict with language (like Eckhardt Tolle on topics like surrender for example), and for some humans, there is a tendency to personalize god - understood to have human qualities, which causes a cozy "co-pilot" belief. Also, we often still identify with the EGO through step 5. Step 6-7 requires the full shift to a spiritual basis from the mere "decision" in Step 3. The 12&12, p. 61 for step 5 says, "No one ought to say the A.A. program requires no willpower; here is one place you may require all you’ve got." It's an illusion that the little self (ego identity) is even real. The ego self THINKS it's in control. After passing through the "gateless gates" of steps 6/7, we realize that HP was in full charge the whole time - either God is everything or God is nothing, after all.... our believing this true or not doesn't change the reality of what is.

I got sober in 87 and these guys were the road map.

I disagree with the necessity of "self will" to "help" God remove our defects of character. I don't read that in the Big Book or the 12 X 12.
